Question about proposed ACA delay

Question about proposed ACA delay - 10/2/2013 12:58:36 PM

Status: offline 		I was thinking about what the House Republicans want - for the ACA to be delayed for a year - and got to wondering:

What specific part(s) of the ACA do they want delayed, and how are they proposing to do it?

After all, parts of the law have been in effect for quite a while - letting kids stay on their parents' plan until 26, etc - and the exchanges, which are mostly run by the states anyway, are now open and enrolling people.

Are they looking to force states to close their exchanges? (And what about the plans that have already been purchased on them?) And do they want to stop the Medicaid expansion to the states that wanted it?

How about the requirement that insurance companies accept people with pre-existing conditions? Are they looking to delay the reforms to make Medicare more efficient and cost-effective? Or maybe they want to delay the tax breaks for small business who provide health insurance to their employees.

Do they want all of the provisions cancelled until next fall, even the ones that are already in effect?

Status: offline 		The problem with the delay is the fines are needed to offset subsidies . This would mean the plan could fail.... Exactly what the republicans want. I hope Obama isn't dumb enough to give in.

Status: offline 		The democrats have publicly stated that they would definitely entertain a one year delay (they pretty much have given it to business) because of the recalcitrance of the teabaggers.

They will not consider it concurrently with a continuing appropriations bill, however. pass the clean bill and make a clean bill of this policy, and by god, it will have a hella chance passing.

Status: offline 		Delay plays into the TP'ers hands by giving them more time to wreck the system. Time to hold their feet to the fire on this, and a lot of other things. Bottom line, Obama can always declare a State Of Emergency if the TP threatens to harm the country for much longer.

I don't trust them to pass the delay bill after passing a clean CR.

If roles were switched, I wouldn't trust the GOP to do that, either.

Cruz is in the Senate. I'm pretty sure he'd vote in favor of the bills coming from the House.

Actually Harry Reid is the one who has shut the government down. The House keeps passing bills that will fund the government and Reid will not let the Senate vote on them because he doesn't like them.

Meanwhile, you have Oblamer saying he will veto anything that isn't exactly what he wants.

The House even passed a bill stating they would fully fund the Unaffordable Care Act as it was originally passed with no waivers for big business, federal employees, or Congress. Since Reid won't even take a vote to fully fund the exact law he voted for and our Dumbass-in-Chief wants to veto any budget deal that funds his signature law exactly as it was forced on the American people... Any blame for this rests squarely on crybabies Reid and Obama.

Several aspects have already been delayed, by Obama because implementation simply is not ready, pushed out, etc. The healthcare.gov site im told is still not up and running, why? Oh because of all the hits, "its popular, just as we knew it would be". Yet they had 2 years to prep in order to handle demand and still fell short. This is just the website we're talking about, forget real medical concerns.

Before everyone goes jumping the gun, peeing themselves for this plan... shouldn't we all take a closer look at what the mandate entails for us, the peons? It certainly doesnt pertain to government or big business donators... of course, they're excluded. You opt out, dont have insurance... you get fined. You dont pay it, they suspend your drivers license, house liens and so on.

By the by... CA, the bluest state in the union, had 770k unique hits for ACA, of which .058 actually signed up. Thats less than 1%.

With voters making statements like the one above referring to "state of emergency comment", no wonder Obama thinks hes a dictator.

Lie. Every single CR the House has passed has been brought to the floor the parts the Senate doesn't like are removed and sent back to the House. The Senate is actually being responsible as never once has Boehner brought one of those CR's to the floor for a vote because he knows it would pass. This is entirely the fault of the GOP in the House.

As you have explained before, for it to have been set up to handle the immediate crush, it would have required a lot more cost and hardware that simply wouldn't have been necessary after the initial crush.

To say it was running quite well, though. Damn, man. Be real. Acknowledge it. Explain it (which you have done well). Wait for the initial crush and I don't doubt it will be well suited for the "normal" traffic levels.

Several hundred thousand people got insurance in one day. Considering the load issues that is pretty good IMO.

Facts are stubborn things, and that stubborn fact -- emphasized above -- puts the blame for the government shutdown/slowdown absolutely, completely, squarely and totally on ideological narcissistic tyrants Reid and Obama.

I agree that it ran "pretty good." But, "pretty good" and "quite well" are not the same. That's all I was saying. The shitmess it is was, imo, to be expected for no other reason than it was the first day.

I grew up around Cedar Point Amusement Park. Every other year, they unveiled a new coaster. That coaster was crushed for people lining up wanting to ride it. Top Thrill Dragster had 4 hour waiting times the day I went in 2003. Four hour waiting time for a ride that was less than 30 seconds long. Sure, the thrill was great, but was it really worth nearly a third of the time the park was even open? Lucky for me, the group I was with agreed and we got to ride the rest of the rides with shorter waits. You won't wait 4 hours for Top Thrill Dragster anymore. That crush has sailed on to the latest and greatest.

This is no different. I don't know that it will only take a few days, but things should level out well before Halloween, imo.
