Anita Perry, wife of Texas Gov. Rick Perry has done something most republican women dont do, she expressed an opinion contrary to her husband's and the party in general.

quote:

Texas first lady Anita Perry told an interviewer on Saturday that she thinks abortion is “a woman’s right.”

Perry’s husband, Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R), has helped push through a slew of laws restricting and eroding access to abortion in the state. He is on record deriding the idea that the right to privacy extends to abortion, has signed a pledge urging opposition to abortion “without exception and without compromise,” and explicitly stated that his goal is to make abortion in Texas “a thing of the past.”

Texas First Lady Calls Abortion ‘A Woman’s Right’

Wonder what Rick is gonna do about his wife, considering that burning heretics at the stake and other punishments are no longer socially acceptable.

I know a lot of republican women and I can't think of one who has any problems telling her husband her opinion. But I suppose we can't have a p&r thread without trying to make 1/2 the country look like idiots.

No they don't, but that is not what the op implied. As to what she said, she said it's a women choice. Makes sense to me, did you have a problem with that?

Boi, how many political wives voice an opinion in a public forum contrary to what their husband stands for?

Let me carry that one step further.

How many political wives voice an opinion contrary to their husbands and the party line, in the south?

Considering the GOP's attacks on woman's rights over the last few years, this statement could be compared to blasphemy.

I know a lot of republican women and I can't think of one who has any problems telling her husband her opinion.

No doubt.

But that's quite different from a political spouse's taking a public stance directly at odds with her husband's record on an a hot-button issue for his party. Doing so is a rarity on either side of the aisle.

Nor without . . . well, never mind.

Edited for typos.

Spouses of politicians usually don't do that, regardless of which one is which gender. It's not weird because she's a Republican or a woman, it's weird because she's the spouse of a politician.

Saying "most Republican women don't do [that]" is true, but misleading. The wife of a Democrat, husband of a Republican, or husband of a Democrat would all most likely refrain from making a public statement contrary to the views or policy choices of his/her spouse.

Most republican women support the GOP attacks on women's rights, I figured that the fact she is the wife of Rick Perry would make it clear.

The fact that she is Rick Perry's wife is supposed to make it clear that most republican women support attacks on women's rights? Sorry but that doesn't make a lot of sense. And I thought you were talking about political wives, not republican women. Is it really that hard to discuss something without trying to drag the right vs left shit into it. Or are you also suggesting that only republican political wives do this? You do realize that a lot of liberal christians are against abortion right? And that the only thing her opinion proves is what she supports, no one else.

Rick Perry Says Wife Misspoke On Abortion As A Woman's Right

Texas Governor Rick Perry (R) said Tuesday that his wife, Anita Perry, misspoke when she said abortion "could be" a woman's right.

“From time to time we’ll stick the wrong word in the wrong place, and you pounce upon it,” Perry said to reporters while appearing at a campaign event for Republican New Jersey Senate candidate Steve Lonegan in Smithville, N.J., according to Bloomberg.

Anita Perry's remarks came during a Saturday appearance at the 2013 Texas Tribune Festival in Austin, where she was asked about abortion by the Tribune's Evan Smith.

"That's really difficult for me, Evan, because I see it as a women's right," she said. "If they want to do that, that is their decision; they have to live with that decision."

When pressed on her stance, Perry said she believed the decision to have an abortion "could be" the right of a woman.

"Just like it's a man's right if he wants to have some kind of procedure," she said. "But I don't agree with it, and that's not my view."

Rick Perry, who unsuccessfully ran for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination, is no stranger to verbal slip-ups. During a debate in 2011, he famously forgot one of the agencies of government he wanted to eliminate.

"The third agency of government I would do away with – the Education, the Commerce. And let's see. I can't. The third one, I can't," Perry said. "Oops."

LMFAO...why cant she say she misspoke for herself?

Last I checked Republicans had nothing against divorce....in fact, it's even better if one can discuss divorce terms when one's spouse is recovering from cancer surgery....
