From Common Dreams...

An amendment dubbed the "Monsanto Protection Act," which currently allows large agriculture and biotech corporations to ignore court orders involving the safety of genetically modified seeds, has been stripped from Senate's spending bill that could be voted on as early as Wednesday afternoon...

The rider was the source of outrage by many and quickly dubbed a form of "corporate welfare" that benefited large biotechnology corporations firms such as Monsanto and Syngenta as it barred US federal courts from being able to prevent the sale or planting of GMO crops even if they failed to meet federal safety standards or were discovered to be harmful to humans or the environment...

However, according to a statements released by the offices of Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) and Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-MD), the provision will not be extended and has now been removed from the Senate's version of the bill.

Edits to add......... UK firms also knew, most notbaly Turner and Newall who had amalgamated with Washington Chemicals. here is a quote from one of the Turner family at the time.

In 1937, Turner's director Robert H. Turner wrote: "All asbestos fibre dust is a danger to lungs. If we can produce evidence from this country that the industry is not responsible for any asbestosis claims, we may be able to avoid tiresome regulations and the introduction of dangerous occupational talk.

I am sure many firms operating today have similar medical evidence that is kept under wraps.

Indeed but the fact it wasnt banned in the UK (dont know about the US) until the late eighties angers me. Thats almost 50 years of conspiracy for profit.

There have even been hundreds of deaths in the UK of people just living close to factories.

Asbestos in the US was banned in '78 along with lead based paint.

Status: offline 		For the record - it doesn't go far enough, but its a good step. Now strip away patenting seeds entirely. And the ability to insert the roundup gene is a potential environmental disaster for the plants that already have that ability.

Aside: I am not against the asbestos ruling either. However, it was a contributing factor to the fall of the towers here in the US. When the towers were built they were spec'd to have asbestos cladding.
When steel gets hot, it loses its cold harding, and thus, grows weaker. At the time of construction there was no ready, cheap replacement for asbestos. And so instead of being able to withstand 1200 degrees for more than an hour.. the steel failed..

World trade center begun in 1967 completed in 1974.
Asbestos removed from most construction materials 1989

Do you know if there has been any links to genetically modified seeds, and colony collapse disorder? Any proof that plants from GM seeds have no causal link to CCD?

Pretty difficult to prove a negative. I had not heard that ccd had been linked to gm seeds or monsanto.
