Quick... let's try to guess what sort of spin the WALL STREET journal might put on things.

But hey, if you don't want to think about that you might just ponder all the obvious spin in the article itself. Do I think scientists are incorruptible? No, I do not. Is that article even remotely credible? No, it is not.

DomKen -> RE: Excellent Article on the IPCC report -- by a canadian (9/24/2013 9:06:16 PM)

FR
From the end of the article
quote:

Ms. Laframboise is a Canadian journalist who writes on climate matters at NoFrakkingConsensus.com.

Is anyone shocked that someone in the pocket of old energy is spinning against the IPCC?

Can't dispute the facts, attack the messenger...

What a waste of time reading that bit of trash was. Please don't waste my time with such tabloid crap again Phydeaux.

If you can't find an article with some substance or relevance silence is a golden option.

joether -> RE: Excellent Article on the IPCC report -- by a canadian (9/25/2013 1:14:40 AM)

The Wall Street Journal has had a very conservative view on science for a few decades now (political, NOT, financial). While their focus is on economic and financial matters they have in the past pushed ideas that had very little scientific basis. This article, while informing that the actual document to be published is coming soon, it failed to give the title of the one produced in 2007; that's just bad journalism on display. The 'journalist' covering this story belongs to an organization that refutes the ever growing understanding that 'frakking' has dangerous effects. Not just that, but the environments are often heavily damaged if not utterly destroyed by the process. Go ahead and visit those areas that have been devastated by this technique. While your there, make sure to drink PLENTY of the water. After all, if 'frakking' is environmentally safe, the water should be fine, right?

Donna is angling for more sales of her book, she is well known as a libertarian up here, and for being lax with facts.
Her views on feminism, are amusing too

just a canadian POV on the messenger

So what is it that makes the article not credible? Is it that the WSJ is reporting on the spin already spun?

At a closed-door meeting in Stockholm this week, each paragraph of a document written by scientists is being projected onto large screens. Delegations from scores of nations participate in the editing: Words will be substituted, emphasis will be added, entire sentences may well be inserted or deleted.

After four days of haggling, the media will be summoned by the United Nation's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change to a news conference on Friday where the final version of the document—known as the "Summary for Policymakers"—will be released along with a solemn announcement that "science" has spoken.

The article is definitely a hit piece. But a hit on whom or what? It's not a hit piece on science itself. That's not where the finger points.

No facts in that article, so no facts to dispute.

Hillwilliam -> RE: Excellent Article on the IPCC report -- by a canadian (9/25/2013 6:41:38 AM)

I read the article and it appears to be what I call "prespin"

Nothing has been released yet and they are already attacking the 'presumed' results by attacking the credentials of SOME of the participants.

It's pretty common on both sides of the aisle to say that "X is on the committee so we will have to ignore the findings of that committee because X is biased" before the committee even meets.

mnottertail -> RE: Excellent Article on the IPCC report -- by a canadian (9/25/2013 6:56:17 AM)

It is unclear how membership in the WWF would assist in casting aspersions on science.

The author of the article was assuming bias where it may or may not exist.
In situations where you are "Preaching to the Choir", that is all that is necessary to incite the mob and have them breaking out pitch forks and torches.

ETA. I disagree that this is an "Excellent article" IMO, an excellent article will be free of bias (a true rarity) and this article is nothing but bias.

Remember kids. Just because someone agrees with you at the time doesn't mean they're a good person.

mnottertail -> RE: Excellent Article on the IPCC report -- by a canadian (9/25/2013 7:09:41 AM)

The only linkage (and a very tenuous and wispy one would be polar bears), because there are any number of endangered species would rocket off like a motherfucker in a global warming scenario:

Sumatran Orangutan (Indonesia)
Sumatran Tiger (Indonesia)
Lear’s Macaw (Brazil)
Brown Spider Monkey (Colombia, Venezuela)
Rancho Grande Harlequin Frog (Venezuela)
Panamanian Golden Frog (Panama)
Pygmy Three-toed Sloth (Panama)
Yellow-crested Cockatoo (Indonesia)
Golden-bellied Capuchin (Brazil)
Elegant Frog (Australia)
Orinoco Crocodile (Colombia, Venezuela)
Mountain Gorilla (Rwanda, Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo)
Golden Mantella (Madagascar)
Eastern Red Colobus (Kenya)
Javan Rhinoceros (Indonesia, Vietnam)

So those impugnations are weak ass tea as anything resembling evidence or relevance. And a couple scientists in WWF is not that entire scientific community.

Can't speak to the facts, they attack the messenger as always.

And I hold absolutely no faith in the left for anything except intentionally destroying America.

They are only accomplishing that at about one tenth the rate of the right who are masterfully intentionally destroying America.

[sm=rofl.gif]

So you do admit the left is intentionally destroying America. It really doesn't matter the speed with which one plunges over the cliff as it's the plunge that really matters. It's what kills you.

Carry on!

Technically it's usually the abrupt stop at the bottom that kills you, not the plunge over the cliff. [8D]
