jlf1961 -> President Obama is wanting to attack the wrong country! (9/12/2013 7:29:06 AM)

This does not belong in P&R because the reasons for this statement are not political, they are strictly based on national pride.

There are three men in the UK that the BBC allows to voice their anti-American rantings weekly when their show is on (I still dont know how 10 shows constitutes a season.) These men have a large following and it is alleged that citizens in the UK base major purchases on their words.

I am referring to Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond, the hosts of the BBC show "Top Gear."

On more than one occasion they have insulted the Big Three in Detroit (okay, Chrysler is a subsidiary of Fiat) but still, this propaganda has to stop.

On one show Jeremy Clarkson spent a segment bashing the H1 Hummer. Commenting about how it was too big for the roads in villages in the UK.

Instead of bad mouthing the hummer, he should have been attacking the British government for not spending money to widen the roads to a civilized width.

The show has blasted the iconic Corvette because the rear end has a tendency to slide out when taking a curve at speed. Who cares, you arent going to be driving a corvette over 100 mph on the streets, the damn traffic ticket will cost you more than the monthly payment on the corvette. Not to mention the fact that the states have tendency to frown on such things and tend to revoke driver's licenses for speeding 30 MPH or more over the speed limit.

While they have sung hymns praising the qualities of the Toyota Hilux pickup, I have never seen them road test a full sized American Made pickup on their show. I would like to see a hilux out pull a Ram in a pickup tug of war.

They complain about the American made vehicles not being available in right hand drive, well if the brits would drive on the proper side of the road it would not be a problem, would it?

I have seen their two of their hallowed land rover 4x4's stuck in mud that jeeps, broncos, blazers, go through with ease.

I dont remember the brits complaining about all the M4 shermans we sold them in WW2, do you?

Forget Syria, we need to do something about the constant insults by the hosts of Top Gear. A cruise missile is not enough to deal with these men and those who support them!

After that, we can deal with countries that put mayo on french fries.

True, I could have ranted about the French, or the Canadians.

I mean American baseball in Canada? Either Canada needs to join the US or they need to give back the ball team.

and why do you care what they think/rant about? (heck, there is a whole big ocean between here and there.. [sm=help.gif] )

and.. gee.. I didn't think Americans were so.. well,.. darn sensitive and all.. or is it just a slow news day? [:D]

How many years has it been since a Canadian team has won the Stanley cup?

Did someone say 20? [:D]

And you could give us back hockey while you're at it. I'd happily give baseball back to the US if they gave us back hockey (not that I watch sports).

Funny thread ! You're not alone in being bashed by them. They really dug Mexico out recently too, for no reason whatsoever.

Any jibes from Top Gear aimed at the US is done in a friendly way. Half of the guests on the show are American. They did do a full review of a pick up, the Ford F150, but your cars in general are just a little too big for UK roads.. My friend's dad bought himself a Hemi Dodge Ram but the thing would take up one and a half parking spots over here! He also had an 80's Camaro (looked like a Trans-Am) which was heaps of fun. The thing is though that the price of petrol here is (or was) atleast double what you pay so these big engined cars really hurt the pocket at the pumps.

Petrol here works out at roughly $11/gallon. How much is it in the States?

We drive on the correct side of the road btw. We also say aluminum correctly too.....

Please note the part I put in bold. You people need to widen your roads. Simple solution.

I mean why are you folks keeping those thousand year old and older buildings anyway? It costs a fortune to renovate them to meet the standards of the 21st century.

Did I fail to mention the most important reason?

The UK illegally holds territory that rightfully belongs to the state of New York, and has illegally occupied this territory since the Atlantic ocean opened up.

I am of course referring to the area of land that geologically is identical to rock of New York state. It needs to be returned forthwith.

The British, and their German monarchs, have a long history of stealing important rocks from other countries.

Er, yes, actually. The Shermans were death traps. The Germans used to call them 'Tommie Cookers' or Ronsons (because, like the cigarette lighters, they were guaranteed to 'light first time').

That bit, at least, is fair enough. Clarkson and his disciples are wankers. In fact, because Clarkson is the UK's leading wanker, I've been trying to introduce the term 'Clarkson' as a synonym for 'wank'. Thus, for instance,

"What are you doing in the bathroom, dear - you've been in there for ages!"

"Not to worry, dear, I'm just leafing through the bra adverts of your Cosmo whilst giving myself a vigorous Clarkson".

Because it's British and JLF understands and appreciates that everything British is better than everything American.

I hope that helps.

'ere me now. Why not 'ave the old ball and chain say,. I am taking a massive Clarkson; dearie, and will wipe it off with the front page of the Mail?

Because even with cable and god knows how many channels, there are times when the only decent thing on happens to be BBC America. How else am I supposed to get current Dr. Who?

we are not so fat as a people so our cars and roads are the right width to fit population needs, I personally would be shaked left and right in a hammer, and for this reason when in usa the ususal test driver was not the right size and they had to hire the stig's american cusin:

For starters, the US version of Top Gear is stupid shit. I tried giving it a chance to grow and improve, to find its own particular stride. I'm done. It's useless.

Next, the British presenters bag on American cars being shit, and they are absolutely right. I wouldn't own anything from Chrysler or GM. There are a few pretty designs that catch my eye here and there, but just getting behind the wheel on the lot, without even starting it, puts a quick wrap to that. If I was in the market for a full size pickup, I'd get a Ford, and that is the end of the list.

The British Top Gear runs on BBC America, and the DVR records every episode. It's my default TV. Beautiful cars, outstanding film production, and actual wit between the hosts.

I'm about to break 100,000 miles on my '07 Honda (built in the US south btw - Alabama, I think), and the only thing wrong with it are some stains in the upholstery because I often have dogs in the back. It's just about due for the first real servicing.

Just for the record though, with lottery money to play with, I probably would buy a Jag, but I wouldn't have a Range Rover bought with someone else's money.

DesFIP -> RE: President Obama is wanting to attack the wrong country! (9/12/2013 8:12:22 PM)

I have 170,000 on my all motion, VW Passat and it now needs a transmission. Dodge Caravan needed it before 100,000.

Plus the Passat has ergonomic seats, adjustable lumbar cushions, and heated seats. Now that I haven't been driving it for a couple of months, my back hurts. For the past 12 years that's not been a problem. And my back first went out when I was 16.
