Okay, with certain exceptions, the american automotive industry is collectively sitting in the corner playing with themselves while the let drunk chimps design cars.

However, today, having given up on my hot rod idea simply because shop space rental is the equivalent to renting a house in Beverly Hills, I discovered some classic Detroit Iron, a 68 camaro with extensive surface rust and in need of some tlc, and a 63 chevy pickup with a ragged out interior, electrical problem and a 1 inch square spot of severe rust on the driver side rocker panel.

However the rock under Wales and England was originally part of the American east coast about 739 million years ago, and I think they should be made to return it to its proper place.

You'd be hard-pressed to find a stronger USA patriot than me.

The cars made in this country suck balls. I have two cars: one is Swedish and the other is Japanese.

We make the best guns (thanks to Saint JMB.) We make the best electronics; alright, we design them but they are actually made in Indonesia, Malaysia and South Korea, but they are designed here. Our pizza delivery system cannot be beat.

But our cars suck rocks.

jlf1961 -> RE: President Obama is wanting to attack the wrong country! (9/13/2013 5:19:06 AM)

Our pizza delivery service cant be beat?

Try again.

I live in the country. There are three subdivisions around my property, one to the west, one to the south, and one north of me just outside of the city limits.

Now Pizza Hut, Papa John's, Pizza Pro will deliver to everyone of those subdivisions, even the one that they have to drive past my drive way to get to.

But they wont deliver to my house. The nearest they will come is the 7/11 about 4 miles away. Everyone of those places have put the address in their GPS to get directions to my house, they know that they drive past it to get to the subdivision 3 miles south of me, but they cant deliver to my house.

MalcolmNathaniel -> RE: President Obama is wanting to attack the wrong country! (9/13/2013 8:52:58 AM)

Three pizza places won't deliver to you.

Maybe you should look at yourself.

MariaB -> RE: President Obama is wanting to attack the wrong country! (9/13/2013 8:57:10 AM)

You may have the best pizza delivery system but you don't have the best pizzas!

Italy comes top of my list when it comes to pizzas followed closely by southern france. English and American pizzas try to be authentic but just like their coffee, something went terribly wrong.

I totally agree. I love pizza delivery. It always worked for me even when i was far away from the main roads (just be sure to chose the pizza place closer to you and you're good to go).
What I don't love is the pizza itself: don't get me wrong I got used to it and I eat it and somewhat like it. Just don't compare it to italian pizza tho. They are quite two different things. And for an italian it's hard to accept unless you pretend you're eating something else (ok, i brought the concept to the extremes but jsut to make it clear). I think the real problem is not the ability of the cook it's just the ingredients: italian extra virgin olive oils and real mozzarella (from the european kind of buffalo) makes a huge difference.

No offense intended.

Next, the British presenters bag on American cars being shit, and they are absolutely right. I wouldn't own anything from Chrysler or GM. There are a few pretty designs that catch my eye here and there, but just getting behind the wheel on the lot, without even starting it, puts a quick wrap to that. If I was in the market for a full size pickup, I'd get a Ford, and that is the end of the list.

I have given American vehicle mfrs enough chances and they are garbage.. never again.. If I were to buy a vehicle (& that's a huge "if" at this point).. it would be a Toyota Yaris, or if it was a truck it would still be an inexpensive Toyota truck.. I am leaning to scooters or a small motorcycle, if anything.. (but I need an M1 license first).. My mother had a Toyota Echo sedan (which became the Yaris).. and it was amazing! great, great gas mileage, unbelieveable gas mileage.. It was a dream to drive.. it looked nice too.. and.. inexpensive to buy.. plus I think Toyota hold their value better than most mfrs vehicles do..

tj444, you clearly have never experienced the thrill of a classic American muscle car.

no, likely not.. thrills only last but a few minutes (sorta like sex the first time).. but great, great, unbelieveable gas mileage trumps that in my book! [:D]

Petrol here works out at roughly $11/gallon. How much is it in the States?

In Illinois, it's currently about $3.70/gallon.

3.259 in this part of Texas

Where I am, it's about $3.55 per gallon which is about £2.44 at today's rate.

But here's an interesting thing to think about: What is the median pay in the UK? I think it's about £11.00 per hour? In the US, it's about $9.25.

How many people are employed full time in the UK? In the US it's 43%

So we make less money per hour. We work less hours. We pay more for health insurance. Hell, we pay taxes on lottery winnings. You guys don't.

Apples to oranges, my friend.

This does not belong in P&R because the reasons for this statement are not political, they are strictly based on national pride.

On more than one occasion they have insulted the Big Three in Detroit (okay, Chrysler is a subsidiary of Fiat) but still, this propaganda has to stop.

On one show Jeremy Clarkson spent a segment bashing the H1 Hummer. Commenting about how it was too big for the roads in villages in the UK.

ROFL ... I appreciate why this is not in P&R ... AND I admire your respect for Detroit built vehicles. Heck, I live in the area and have driven Buick's for the last 20 years.

Amazing ride, millage, longevity and highest Quality ... far surpassing Toyota.

That said, well Brits DO drive on the wrong side of the road ... and don't have a large enough population to change a North American Assembly Line (American Vehicles are made in BOTH Canada and US. Mexico too.)

But the Brits were eager to drive Jeeps during World War Two ... because they couldn't even make a vehicle. Lots of bombs falling.

Here in America, I work in a multi-national environment, and am AMAZED how many people from other countries "THINK" a North America vehicle is somehow inferior.

I know this is just rumor, innuendo and lack of knowledge; likely created and perpetrated by hosts like you mention.

Yet I would not even be upset with these BBC "Hosts"

Clearly like Sgt Shultz ... they "know nothing" !!!!

(well except how to pad their ratings) [:D] [:D] [:D]

PS: Be happy too ... you can get HIGH QUALITY vehicles CHEAPER ... because others believe NONSENSE! [:)]

TheHeretic -> RE: President Obama is wanting to attack the wrong country! (9/13/2013 6:57:33 PM)

I actually somewhat preferred driving on the left, when I was stationed in Japan. I'm good with either, as long as everybody else on the road is on the same page.

When my brother and his then-girlfriend (now wife) graduated from college, they pondered what cars to buy. My brother, who'd imbibed too much "Buy American" juice in the Midwest, chose a Pontiac. Total lemon. His wife bought a Honda, which she drove for a dozen years. (It might have lasted longer but for getting totaled in an accident.) Needless to say, they've gone with imports ever since.

FR: The Sequel

Say what you will about the Brits and cars, but there's something pretty damn cool about a country where

(a) the head of state, an octogenarian in a pink dress, parachutes into the Olympics with James Bond and

(b) a Conservative prime minister defies his own backbenchers and forges cross-aisle alliances to lead--and win--the fight for marriage equality.

Cool Britannia--long may she reign!

Oh, and mayo on frites is delicious. [:)]

Agreed, Mayo on fries is delicious. [:D]

Also, I love my accent and so do the women. I was at my local bank today, saw 2 gorgeous southern women approaching and I walked past them to open the door. They said "Thanks" and I say something to the effect of sure no problem.

Anyway, one of them immediately said, oh where are you from and then we got talking.

Oh, so simple. I was with my friend and he said that the better looking one really wanted me to close as she was the one asking all the questions, like where do I live, where was I from, do I know the prince, etc, etc.

So my accent > *. It's that simple. :D

Mayo on fries is more a Dutch thing IME. In English fish and chips shops it's usually malt vinegar.

This does not belong in P&R because the reasons for this statement are not political, they are strictly based on national pride.

There are three men in the UK that the BBC allows to voice their anti-American rantings weekly when their show is on (I still dont know how 10 shows constitutes a season.) These men have a large following and it is alleged that citizens in the UK base major purchases on their words.

I am referring to Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond, the hosts of the BBC show "Top Gear."

Instead of bad mouthing the hummer, he should have been attacking the British government for not spending money to widen the roads to a civilized width.

The show has blasted the iconic Corvette because the rear end has a tendency to slide out when taking a curve at speed. Who cares, you arent going to be driving a corvette over 100 mph on the streets, the damn traffic ticket will cost you more than the monthly payment on the corvette. Not to mention the fact that the states have tendency to frown on such things and tend to revoke driver's licenses for speeding 30 MPH or more over the speed limit.

While they have sung hymns praising the qualities of the Toyota Hilux pickup, I have never seen them road test a full sized American Made pickup on their show. I would like to see a hilux out pull a Ram in a pickup tug of war.

They complain about the American made vehicles not being available in right hand drive, well if the brits would drive on the proper side of the road it would not be a problem, would it?

I have seen their two of their hallowed land rover 4x4's stuck in mud that jeeps, broncos, blazers, go through with ease.

I dont remember the brits complaining about all the M4 shermans we sold them in WW2, do you?

Forget Syria, we need to do something about the constant insults by the hosts of Top Gear. A cruise missile is not enough to deal with these men and those who support them!

After that, we can deal with countries that put mayo on french fries.

Well, that's always been MY contention! Silly wrong way driving people!
