Lucylastic -> Issa Lied about IRS targets???? (8/21/2013 6:13:26 AM)

From Politicus yesterday
http://www.politicususa.com/2013/08/20/definitive-proof-republicans-irs-lied-congress-public-irs-scandal.html

The unredacted IRS treasury report was released today and it turns out we’ve all been lied to in a huge way. Progressive groups were singled out for scrutiny just like conservative groups. But worse than that, the IRS Inspector General misled Congress about this fact during testimony and in letters, and the progressive terms were “redacted” in the original report.
Well, that was all bull. Someone lied to you and lied good. One of those people is the Inspector General, along with Darrell Issa and probably the entire Republican cabal.

It turns out that the Inspector General’s May 2013 report “left out critical information that skewed the audit’s findings and set the stage for Republicans to make completely baseless accusations in an effort to tarnish the White House,” according to the recipient of the bogus aforementioned letter, Michigan Democrat Sandy Levin.

His full statement is worth a read: “Once again it is clear that the Inspector General’s report left out critical information that skewed the audit’s findings and set the stage for Republicans to make completely baseless accusations in an effort to tarnish the White House. These new documents make it clear the IRS scrutiny of the political activity of 501(c)(4) organizations covered a broad spectrum of political ideology and was not politically motivated.”

“Left out” is nice speak for redacted on purpose, which is nice speak for lied, in this case.

OK so...wondering what the backstory to it was I did a search, and found this

I bet there's more to this story, Lucy. Is this just a rewrite from months ago? The Libs were crying foul because zero of the "conservative" groups targeted were denied status, only left-leaning groups, which turned out to be some massive number, like 3.

Why is this just coming out now? How is it that this information wasn't available to someone who is left-leaning? Why didn't the IRS come out with this immediately to show that they weren't being partisan (even though their admitting they were being partisan is what started this whole shitstorm)?

More will be written and revealed. I had hoped that the end of the "IRS scandal" was over, but, apparently, it is not.

As a reminder, I still don't believe President Obama had anything to do with any of it, which was one of the first comments I made after the initial IRS scandal news.

Quickie response cos im on my way out, but Cummings demanded the full transcript be made available, and seems they have just been released.

I always thought a quickie would be more satisfying. Drat. [:D]

The IRS could very easily have made their BOLO list available to the full Congress.

MrRodgers -> RE: Issa Lied about IRS targets???? (8/21/2013 7:58:09 AM)

Trouble is the exec. levels of the exec. branch some of which did not get their jobs from Obama could be on an agenda.

As I've said though...now and now more than ever...I don't believe anything that any power...has to say anymore...commercial, private or govt....none of it. BP since the domestic gulf incident, spent millions on propaganda and lies, spent money and relied upon corrupt govt. around the Caspian project to hide the same accidents there.

The business community always lies right through their teeth to get or prevent legislation. The bankers we know all too well. Many partisan reps, and senators are almost pathological liars. Business lies all of the time, govt, most of the time. So at the polls, or at the mall...we just live in our own false reality or vote for our own liars.

cloudboy -> RE: Issa Lied about IRS targets???? (8/21/2013 8:00:58 AM)

I am ready to move on. I think it was very hard for Republicans to lose their "gotchya" chance on Obama, so when the facts started slipping away from them, they tried to cover them up. It's not surprising.

The IRS, Benghazi, repealing Obamacare, militarizing the border, limiting abortion, tax breaks for corporations, rolling back environmental and banking regulation, stalling immigration reform, and pushing back on gay rights ----- well, it's no wonder they want to keep their base worked up about something. What are they proposing for the budget, transportation, education, health care, job growth, etc?

This is news?

Why do you care?

You can't stop it and your comment that we've been lied to is, frankly...innocuous.

Yeah...they lied to us.

This is Wednesday.

Dark will precede light.

And?

Perhaps you don't know this, being in Canada, but just because the House of Representatives is majority-ruled by Republicans doesn't mean that the committees are all Republicans.

House Oversight Committee

23 Republicans and 17 Democrats

House Ways and Means Committee

23 Republicans and 16 Democrats.

For the claim to be valid, it would require bipartisan lying. The Democrats on these Committees have no reason to prevent this information from coming out. None.

August 2, 2013 article
    quote:

WASHINGTON—House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif., today issued a subpoena to Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew over the Internal Revenue Service’s increasing attempts to obstruct the Committee’s investigation into IRS targeting of Americans for their political beliefs.

“During the past two weeks, President Obama and you have repeatedly labeled the IRS’s strategy of targeting Americans for their political beliefs as a ‘phony’ scandal. While the Obama Administration has so publicly deflected responsibility for the targeting, it simultaneously has attempted to thwart congressional oversight into the matter… the IRS has engaged in a systematic effort to delay, frustrate, impede, and obstruct the Committee’s investigation,” Issa writes in a letter to Lew accompanying the subpoena.

The letter also details IRS failures to produce documents over the two months since the Committee’s first request:

IRS originally identified over 64 million pages of responsive documents and has revised that number down to 660,000 responsive documents, but has produced to the Committee only about 12,000 pages.
Approximately 2,500 pages are fully redacted and a significant portion of the remaining pages are duplicative.

IRS affirmatively prevented Exempt Organizations Determinations Manager Cindy Thomas from providing the Committee with documents in her possession prior to her transcribed interview with Committee staff.
IRS – without consulting with House Committees – unilaterally limited the date range for searching relevant documents and appears to have unilaterally narrowed the search terms from 81 agreed-upon terms to a subset of only 12 terms.
“While the Committee is willing to work with the IRS to guide the agency in responding to oversight requests, it is patently unacceptable for the IRS to unilaterally revise the scope or search terms used to identify responsive material,” Issa writes.

The Committee is compelling the production of the following documents:

All communications sent or received by Lois Lerner, from January 1, 2009 to August 2, 2013.
All communications sent or received by Holly Paz, from January 1, 2009 to August 2, 2013.
All communications sent or received by William Wilkins, from February 1, 2010 to August 2, 2013.
All communications sent or received by Jonathan Davis, from February 1, 2010 to August 2, 2013.
All communications between or among employees of the Internal Revenue Service’s office of Chief Counsel, employees of the Department of the Treasury, and employees of the Executive Office of the President, referring or relating to tax-exempt organizations or applicants for tax-exempt status, from February 1, 2010 to August 2, 2013.
All communications sent by IRS employees to an e-mail address with the domain name “who.eop.gov,” from February 1, 2010 to August 2, 2013.
All communications received by IRS employees from an e-mail address with the domain name “who.eop.gov,” from February 1, 2010 to August 2, 2013.
All documents referring or relating to the evaluation of tax-exempt applications or the examination of tax-exempt organizations, from January 1, 2009 to August 2, 2013.
Click here to watch Chairman Issa discuss IRS obstruction at today’s hearing with Acting IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel. The cover letter accompanying the subpoena is available here.
(bolding mine)

Perhaps it wasn't the Republicans lying after all?

Edited to change the last line above to:

Perhaps it wasn't just the Republicans lying after all?

LMAO I know...thanks..LMAO shakes my head, of course the republicans are innocent, just looking for the truth. Issa just not letting it be seen.

I wasn't intending that as a negative, Lucy. And, I never said you knew nothing about America.

I did make an error on my post, though. It's been corrected with an edit. I also left the unedited line in.

Issa isn't the only one that sees that stuff, Lucy. The entire committee, or a subcommittee would see it, too. Plus, it is being investigated by both Committees I linked to. You don't think a Democrat on either committee would be raising a stink about the investigations not being open to any Democrats?

Lucylastic -> RE: Issa Lied about IRS targets???? (8/21/2013 7:11:41 PM)

Thanks for the clarification DS
But it WAS issa who refused , until Cummings DEMANDED it back in June.He knew there was something stinkin

According to the article I cited, the IRS was the one redacting stuff, including many things being fully redacted.

BamaD -> RE: Issa Lied about IRS targets???? (8/21/2013 9:35:03 PM)

you do realize this would mean that Issa was lied to not that he lied.

DomKen -> RE: Issa Lied about IRS targets???? (8/21/2013 9:47:35 PM)

We already know Issa lied about this scandal from the beginning. He was the one who requested the IRS IG to report on the treatment of tea party groups despite knowing there were other BOLO lists.

No. I investigate and get the facts on everything. It is how it was easy to find that Issa definitely ginned up this fake scandal.

So, Issa was the only person to get data from the IRS?!? The House Committee didn't investigate as a committee or sub-committee? How was it no Democrats were able to get their hands or eyes on anything at all? How is it that no Democrats were able to request anything from the IRS?
