I, for one, wish America would take a look at it's own problems which are, at last count, pressing. How about we worry about saving the rest of the world after we've cleaned up our own systemic abuses, fed our own poor, and in general kept our nose in our own business.

AMEN!

People who go to Muslim countries get what they get... and, yes, I am sorely tempted to say "get what they deserve".

People who go to ANY country without getting at least some broad understanding of the legal system get what they deserve. I moved to Canada for crying out loud but you can bet I researched a few key topics of interest to me. I can't imagine going to somewhere where I KNOW the legal landscape is very different (and at least allegedly hostile to a female) without doing some research.

That being said, I was quite disappointed to find out that our own State Department lies through it's teeth and actually recommends that a rape victim in the UAE go to the local authorities. So given absolutely incorrect advice from a source that most would think of as trustworthy my opinion about "what they deserve" gets moderated.

I've heard that kind of story only too often, Jeff. If it were me in your position I'd take it for granted that I'd not be able to get completely reliable info from government sources here in the UK. I'd expect them to have far too much of an interest in not offending the government of the country that I want to visit.

Yes. And the implications of that statement are truly unfortunate.

That's very good news!! I bet she is doing the happy dance and learned the lesson of her life. I bet her family is extremely grateful.

If I read the story correct, the "accuser" was also pardoned. Where is the justice here? What a joke of a court system. Some countries really still are stuck in the 1500's.

Wrong 800's

I am reading this correctly?
You think most people think the gummint generally, and Hillary's State Department specifically, is "trustworthy"?
Seriously?

Phydeaux -> RE: Norwegian rape victim "pardoned" in Dubai. (7/22/2013 9:10:09 PM)

They didn't convict the man of rape, they convicted him of illicit sex, and drinking alcohol. Which he was dumb enough to admit to, and which a rape kit proved.

They pardoned him, because it takes eyewitness testimony of four males to establish rape. Regardless of the DNA evidence. The woman's voice is worthless.

Ok. It isn't worthless... it is exactly equal to half of a male.

See: http://www.thereligionofpeace.com/Quran/010-women-worth-less.htm

Which is why Islam and the west are on a collision course.

Pragmatic thinking obviously. I predicted something like this when I found they were not exactly hustling her off to prison. Here's what's got my undies in a bunch. The US state department in it's own travel advisories on UAE does not say something sensible like, "Female travelers should avoid this destination". Rather, it recommends that if you are raped you should go to the local authorities.

Huh?

Friend of mine worked in the state department conducting security assays. He used to borrow the old armed forces motto.. "its not a job, its an adventure".

Except the motto at the state department was : "Its not a job".

Literrally he used to read pulp fiction for 4 hours a day on the job.

If she woke up and realized the guy was having sex with her, it's good odds she was drinking heavily.

Or she was "ruffied"

So now it is your belief that dubai has embraced multiculturalism?[8|]

It's my belief that he has no clue what the word means.

Didn't you believe them about the weapons of mass deception?

How exactly does that differ from christianity?
How long have women had the vote in the u.s.?
Why wernt we on a collision course with them durring the cold war?
Why now and not before? Has islam changed in the past few years?
There is only collision for those who wish for a collision.
