Simple. It was drained off into the larger bodies of water. Remember, this story wasn't written by a globe-spanning civilization with instant communication. To them, the world was much smaller. It may have seemed as if the world had drowned to a close observer, but after the hydology settled down and balance was made again, the waters seemed to recede. It didn't "go" anywhere, it just repositioned itself.

May I point out that the Ark came to rest on the top of Mt Ararat, according to the bible? Thus, the oceans would have to have been already full, and like I said, an additional 3,551,121,264 cubic kilometers of water would have had to been on the planet.

If the ice caps completely melt, that would raise sea level 200 feet. So, where did the water go? And why hasnt anyone found any Bigfoot shit laying around?

Oh, I understand the story.... and the thinking behind it.. which is pretty much one of the reason's why I cant take the Bible as a historical work. However, the OP asked... after the flood.. where did the water go if the Bible states the earth was flooded?

A pretty good question in my opinion.

if you look in all directions and all you see is water then the earth is in fact flooded from your perfectly correct pov.

they used to think the world was flat too until they installed the us weather satellites. lmoa

Yes, but there are people who believe people back then rode dinosaurs. There are people who believe the whole earth was flooded

He is easy to pick out of the crowd... and he appears to be popular among the home schooled crowd. (I home schooled my own son, non-secular).

Kenneth Alfred Ham (born 20 October 1951) is an Australian young-Earth creationist[1][2] who advocates a literal interpretation of the Book of Genesis.[3] He is the president of Answers in Genesis (AiG) and the Creation Museum.[4]

Its this group, unless I am mistaking the OP, that he is asking this question of... the young-Earth creationists.

Flood it from where? Where did the water come from? It would have required more water than the earth holds. Where did it go? 40 days to recede? I have been through hurricanes where the land didnt dry out in 40 days. So, what happened to all the water that covered the earth if we go with your belief that a mass came near the earth and flooded it.

lets play nicely shall we.

I never said anything about a belief, I only stated a possibility, do you understand how gravity works?

Yes, and I am being nice. I am asking questions because, like Jeff, I dont see how its possible. I understand that they, at that time, believed the world consisted of only what they could see. But thathardly excuses those who live today.

have you considered revising the bible and publishing it?

I already told you that a large mass would do it. that means that is how it is possible.

The main ice covered landmass is Antarctica at the South Pole, with about 90 percent of the world's ice (and 70 percent of its fresh water). Antarctica is covered with ice an average of 2,133 meters (7,000 feet) thick. If all of the Antarctic ice melted, sea levels around the world would rise about 61 meters (200 feet).

At the other end of the world, the North Pole, the ice is not nearly as thick as at the South Pole. The ice floats on the Arctic Ocean. If it melted sea levels would not be affected.

There is a significant amount of ice covering Greenland, which would add another 7 meters (20 feet) to the oceans if it melted. Because Greenland is closer to the equator than Antarctica, the temperatures there are higher, so the ice is more likely to melt.

http://science.howstuffworks.com/environmental/earth/geophysics/question473.htm

Mount Ararat in Judeo-Christian tradition is associated with the "Mountains of Ararat" where, according to the book of Genesis, Noah's ark came to rest.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Ararat

5,137 m (16,854 ft)

How can all the melting add enough to the earth's water to cover more than 16,000 feet even with a collision of another body mass?

I have no desire to republish the Bible. I have already stated its a wonderful piece of literature filled with both facts and fiction. The flood is just the fiction.

Which would not keep Mount Ararat covered for 40 days, nor an ark floating for weeks on end.

Actually, now I'm beginning to wonder where all the water came from in the first place.

I presume the answer would be that God can do anything. He can make water appear and disappear with a wave of his hand.

as Zonie63 said, you don't need to ask yourself this question when you strongly belive in a god that can do anything, this is the answer for any thing that can't be understood. The problem is how poor educated must a person to belive this, when I doscovered that exist things like creationism museum I couldn't belive it was not a prank.

about big foot shit, it's probably the governament collecting it for a secret cospiration.

For all you folks that believe that the bible is the absolute truth and the planet is little more than 8000 years old, mind telling me one thing?

After Noah's flood, where did 3,551,121,264 cubic kilometers of water go? It would take that much more water to cover the planet deep enough to have the ark run aground on a mountain.

So where did it go?

Jlf, a good question!
And, where did it come from?

My mother and much of my family are Jehovah's Witnesses. They believe in a literal interpretation of the Bible, along with many other beliefs that have no basis in scientific or historical reality. What they believe is based on 'faith.' In other words, they don't need to understand how things happened, and they can ignore solid scientific evidence that disputes their belief, b/c 'God said so,' or 'it's in the Bible' -- it's enough for them.

I don't understand this level of compartmentalization either, but I do know it exists among *all* fundamental cults, sects and religions.

As I said, it's the Mother of All You-Shoulda-Seen-The-One-That-Got-Away stories. It started out as a story about some guy who was out on a boat and a flood happened, and after a couple hundred retellings, it got sexed up to make it more interesting. Along comes some whacky guy with that new-fangled and scary 'writing' thing, and next thing you know, the crappy little tradesmans boat became a battleship-sized lifeboat with two of everything inside.

And Bigfoot has learned to use Port-A-Potties, of course.

A pretty good question in my opinion.

It depends on which group of creationists you ask.

Some evade the problem by saying the flood was followed by a period of rapid continental uplift such that the water that used to cover the Earth now fills just the ocean basins.

Others sat it was poofed away just like it was poofed into existence.
