I just saw a commercial about a woman having her first kid, she was covered up breast feeding. Then it showed her having her second kid. She had her boob out and baby was going to town. The waiter in the commercial was starring. My question is obvious, thus the poll. What y'all think and why?

I think that it is mom's choice. Breastfeed, bottle feed, breast milk, formula, whatever.

It amazes me when mom's can just pop out a tit in front of Cthulhu and everyone because I am not a person that can do that. But offended? Not so much.

It is a choice and the woman and child need to do what they are comfortable with.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Breast feeding in public (7/4/2013 4:40:41 AM)

I breastfed Lizard on a Greyhound bus...and I seen women breastfeed their babies on the Capmetro bus system in Austin. When you are dealing with a fussy baby, you ignore what the general public has to say. They are the ones with the narrow minds.

Em, I hate to be the one to break it to you, but feeding a baby is feeding a baby. It's not really about being sexy.

I fed the baby, I couldn't really give a shit whether another adult in the vicinity finds it sexy or not. I cared about sustaining my child, feeding them, comforting them.

I hate to break it to you, but you wouldn't be the most important person in my consideration.

That was a bit OTT. No? I don't think it's much of a stretch to say that many men and a fair number of ladies find boobs to be sexy.

I think it's also fair to say that the people who are "offended" feel that way because the lady is "showing a sexual part of her anatomy".

I think the person was just commenting that since they didn't find the boobs to be sexy boobs to be sexual items, at that particular time, they weren't offended by it.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

Yer! Thanks DS[:D]

Cthulhu was not breastfed enough as a baby...

Mothers' milk leads to heroin. Ask any addict.

DesFIP -> RE: Breast feeding in public (7/4/2013 7:28:05 AM)

I always had a blanket in the bag I could use to cover up. But I preferred to go sit in the car because it was always a more comfortable seat than a chair in a restaurant or a mall.
I never 'just whipped it out'. I put my hand under my shirt and undid the nursing bra, got the kid in position and pulled the shirt up. Nothing to see folks, move right along.

The blanket was because I was creeped out by people staring.

Breastfeeding may be a natural thing, so is taking a dump, but that is generally not regarded as acceptable practice in public.

Not all of us are into boobs and exhibitionism. Please be discreet.

It's just a boob. Get past puberty and join adulthood.

Im sure a "mainly" gay male wouldnt be. But... pst... bet you were breastfed. [;)]

SubvsSlave -> RE: Breast feeding in public (7/4/2013 11:28:55 AM)

I was breastfed. My two brothers were breastfed. I was extremely disappointed when, after a painfully difficult, frustrating period before getting my son to latch, I found out he was allergic to the cow's protein from dairy I'd ingested. Breast feeding my son, for the short amount of time that I did, was incredibly fulfilling for me as a mother. Not to say that when I switched to formula I felt less of a mother. I just found that feeding time wasn't the same anymore.

I breastfed in public. I was discreet. I didn't receive any feedback, be it negative or positive. I sure as hell wouldn't have been shamed into stopping if some ignoramus had happened to say anything to me though.

Yeah breast feeding!!!

OsideGirl -> RE: Breast feeding in public (7/4/2013 12:10:40 PM)

I have no problem with breast feeding, but I do have a problem with people that use it as an excuse to bring an infant to a place where it is not really appropriate for an infant to be.

ie: nothing like paying $300 for dinner and having a crying baby at the next table because she didn't want to leave the baby with babysitter because she's breast feeding. Or the woman that had her baby at a BAR for the same reason.

If given the choice between offending your delicate sensibilities and providing nourishment for my hungry child, Id choose my child over you every day of the week. In fact, Id especially make sure to do it around you if I knew it pissed you off just for the sheer enjoyment of pissing you off. Hmm, perhaps Im more sadistic than I thought I was.

Eating in general is a natural thing. So is drinking. I don't see you pissing and moaning about restaurants, coffee houses, bars, etc. and the patrons who patronize them.

I think if someone breast fed me..I would use my best accent <insert innocent smile>

To be serious, its fine in this day and age but personally I would prefer a mother to keep covered up.

Errr.....especially mine because I am 60 so she is ummm........... (dies laffin)

MercTech -> RE: Breast feeding in public (7/5/2013 11:40:53 AM)

It really depends on the venue. Many natural functions are a distraction or distasteful to some people when done in public with such a manner to be "in your face".

Breast feeding at a table in a crowded restaurant does seem a bit "in your face" to me. So, also, would be me standing up and unbuckling my pants to adjust my underwear and tuck in my shirt.

Think about the venue before taking care of natural functions.

chatterbox24 -> RE: Breast feeding in public (7/5/2013 11:50:33 AM)

I absolutely agree with breast feeding in public. I breast fed my two, one for 8 months, the other for 10 months. Out of courtesy for others, I would go to a more secluded area but if not available I just whipped it out.............HA!..................I actually covered myself with a baby blanket, it really makes some people very uncomfortable.

theshytype -> RE: Breast feeding in public (7/5/2013 12:42:00 PM)

FR-

If a mother is comfortable doing it, however they do it, is okay with me. More power to them. It does make me a bit uncomfortble having a conversation with someone that's breast feeding their little one, but that's my problem - not theirs.

I do have a problem with the comparison of bathroom needs and breastfeeding. I have an even bigger problem with businesses that try to force employees to pump in the company restrooms, which some friends of mine had to do. I wouldn't want my lunch prepared near a toilet so I certainly wouldn't want a baby's meal either.

THIS!! This was actually going to be my response.

I breastfed my daughter but I never took her anywhere as Oside described. It was inappropriate. I also never sat at a table in public and just breastfed her. I always either found a nice quiet area where I could relax and let the milk flow (noises, sounds, from my experience with breastfeeding, made it more difficult. She would start crying from the noise and I couldn't relax enough from her crying to be able to let the milk flow), or I would go out to the car or a bathroom or somewhere to feed.

But I'm also one who feels they should have separate airline flights for adults only with no children allowed. Sorry, after sitting through a 3 hour plane ride this week with a screaming child the entire time and not the first time I've had this on a plane, it's annoying.

Gawd. That's reminded me of my friend G, who breast-fed her daughter up to the age of three and a bit. Said daughter, when she got hungry, would start bellowing, with all her (considerable) lung power, "I WANT BOOBIE! I WANT BOOBIE!!".

Funny, at such times, I'd feel my support for breast feeding in public dovetailing very harmoniously with my support for capital punishment for small children.
