uh....am i the only one who noticed he put  "hopefully soon won't need bdsm (fingers crossed)..."

man...i got three things to say here....

childhood?  get over it.  quit whining. noone wants to hear it.

wont need bdsm?  have you tried alcohol? i find it makes for a very useful crutch. & the UK has some great beers.

my issues?  i have none.  just a short fuse for people with asinine questions who want to boo hoo about their very personal problems on a very public website.  like the good Mistress says, 'Save your shrink money.  Tell it to the whip." well, i've never actually HEARD anyone say that. but when i do, it will be love at first crack!

ha!

No, you aren't the only one who noticed that. Anyone using BDSM as a form of therapy to get past a "stressful" childhood really needs to look elsewhere. I'm sure that someplace out there are some licensed therapists that practice wiitwd.. but for the most part we're just everyday people. And I seriously doubt if any of those licensed therapists use BDSM as a form of therapy... but I could be wrong, it's been known to happen.

And composer.... tell it to the whip hon... weg

I did not read this entire thread so if someone else pointed out this out  i apologise for being redundant.....Did it ever occur to the OP that people seek help  when they sre sick .. so mh practicioners do not see the vast numbers of well adjusted ppl who are also involved in bdsm ..so that belief is simply the result of  narrow minds using faulty logic rather than a fact

Hi,

This post may seem a bit different to the others on here, but the general feeling amongst the majority of people who work in mental health that i have spoken to is people who are into bdsm have some kind of emotional issue. I must admit I do agree with this, althogh i accept this won't make me popular amongst a lot on here.

Me personally, I had a stressful childhood but am working on these issues and hopefully soon won't need bdsm (fingers crossed), although obv as we all know it can be fun. What about everyone else, anyone else want to share their problems.

thanks

What? Are you nuts?

OK...bad try at a joke but couldn't resist. Everyone has emotions, whether they be issues or not is all in how you control them. As to "using" BDSM as a method to do that? All I can say is that BDSM is not therapy for anything, it may be a release, but it's more what we are, not what we need to do to overcome some underlying problem. If someone has an actual emotional issue (such as a disorder), I would think that there are better "professional" methods to deal with this type of problem. It actually concerns me somewhat to think that someone would use BDSM as a cure, because I would prefer to think for the most part, most of us engaged in WIITWD, do so with a level head and a substantial amount of thought and planning, just to be safe.

IronBear -> RE: Emotional Issues (7/3/2006 6:23:10 AM)

It has been my experience that a vast majority of Mental Health professionalls believe that any "kinky",  BDSM, D/s, M/s and Goran Lifestyles are suffering from some form of psychological disorder.

I have been in court defending one of my client's (a 22 year old lady) from her Mother and Mother's pet Psychiatrist from obtaining a court ordered treatment anf internment for two things. A fetish for but plugs and an agressive personality. In the end the but plug situation was laughed out of court as was the fact that my client is submissive. Regarding the "Personality disorder of an agressive personality" this was dealt with by my client agreeing to work with me on a program to manage and create alternatives for her to change hrt reactions to stress and percieved agression from others. The bonus was a court order keeping her mother away from her and the psychiatrist from ever contacting her again...

I can remember this similar attitude by medical professions when HIV became a major issue and especially to their attitude towards the Gay Community. A little knowledge is more dangerous than no knowledge..

Hmm...I guess I'd be "one of those" folks in BDSM who happen to have emotional issues. Do I like BDSM because of those issues, no...that is my honest opinion. And by the way, not all mental health workers think that BDSM or kinks are some form of mental illness...at least not in the US...perhaps in other countries, I don't know about. Anywho...folk who say things like "all of", or "you must be" tend to annoy me....as no one know's a "majority" or "all of" anything/anyone....you know? Goes along the same lines as people who claim to practice and know the "one true way" of BDSM/alternative lifestyles.

Hmmmm?  I work in mental health and I'm kinky.  Maybe I use my job to deal with my 'issues' and use kink for just plain fun!
