male23uk -> Emotional Issues (6/27/2006 11:44:42 AM)

Hi,

This post may seem a bit different to the others on here, but the general feeling amongst the majority of people who work in mental health that i have spoken to is people who are into bdsm have some kind of emotional issue. I must admit I do agree with this, althogh i accept this won't make me popular amongst a lot on here.

Me personally, I had a stressful childhood but am working on these issues and hopefully soon won't need bdsm (fingers crossed), although obv as we all know it can be fun. What about everyone else, anyone else want to share their problems.

thanks

LadyMorgynn -> RE: Emotional Issues (6/27/2006 11:47:58 AM)

It's been my personal observation, that most people have some kind of emotional issue.

Most people in the world have emotional issues.  90% of the world is neurotic to a certain extent.

Just be glad you aren't part of the 10% who are psychotic.

lisa1978 -> RE: Emotional Issues (6/27/2006 11:53:20 AM)

It would be easier to hunt up the people in this world who do not have any issues. Is it possible or even probable that this life has a higher percentage, sure, I can believe that. Maybe 89.5% of "normal people" have issues and 90% of us have issues. I just find it totally impossible to believe that it is 100% mutually inclusive.

I just think people put us under the microscope more.

LaTigresse -> RE: Emotional Issues (6/27/2006 12:01:37 PM)

I agree, I doubt you will find anyone without some sort of bagage. It is human nature.

juliaoceania -> RE: Emotional Issues (6/27/2006 12:06:32 PM)

Lets see if I have some inner issue..

Hardly ever spanked as a child

Never emotionally abused as a child

Never sexually abused

Loves men that respect me and treat me well

What is my issue???...um I don't think I have one, if you do that is your life. I do not think that you understand the processes at work within human sexuality. Personally I find Western psychology to be hugely reliant onWestern cultural bias and not applicable to studying sexuality worldwide... Victorian sexuality is not a good gauge on what is "normal" for the human species IMO

MistressDREAD -> RE: Emotional Issues (6/27/2006 12:07:36 PM)

I have an emotional issue male23uk

Its that there are 10 million unmentionable that will go to bed tonight outside of a home, without a cover to put down on the ground, with a empty belly who will be forced into having sex befor 12 or forced into war with a gun in their hands befor 12 who will become the BDSMers of tomorrow who will not get the care they need as adults by the mental health workers of their day who are in the small minority of care and cater for the most part to the rich and insured.  I have many other emotional issues under My hat but theres only 24 hours in a day and Ive allready used up 15 hours of em, half addressing My first emotional issue. Need I say more ?

It's not that one has issues that is important.

It's how one manages them.

Oui, I find that laughing at mine helps tremendously!

Kedikat -> RE: Emotional Issues (6/27/2006 12:21:05 PM)

In a very broad sense, everything we do is motivated in some way by emotional, psychological, instinctual, chemical drives. Some positive some negative ( In the eye of the analyzer )
What counts is what we do. Is it fulfilling or self destructive?
Many things we do can have no real meaning, when analyzed too far. There can always be negatives at some levels.
BDSM may be a satisfying, possibly best outlet for some. However they came to it.

This slave has never been abused as a child, or as an adult; physically, mentally, or emotionally. I was raised in a very stable environment, slightly upper class. I have a good education, which I put to use on a daily basis. I am not a perfectionist, and do not strive to be. I have a wonderful relationship which grows stronger every day.
I am sorry, but I have no issues. Emotional or otherwise.

Indeed, if you can't laugh at yourself, everyone else will.

But I like the ability to be allowed my own silliness,it's joyous!

meatcleaver -> RE: Emotional Issues (6/27/2006 12:59:24 PM)

I think that most people working in mental health and the social services have worse emotional issues than their clients and the worse cases of people with emotional issues I have come across in BDSM are or have been social workers.

I'm not being sarcastic, it's merely an observation.

Caretakr -> RE: Emotional Issues (6/27/2006 1:01:56 PM)

Is mental illness infectious?

I have defintely wondered...........

LadyMorgynn -> RE: Emotional Issues (6/27/2006 1:05:22 PM)

Sure it is.  If, for instance, someone was abused as a child, and then in turn abused their children or other children, that is definitely spreading the infection :(

uh....am i the only one who noticed he put  "hopefully soon won't need bdsm (fingers crossed)..."

man...i got three things to say here....

childhood?  get over it.  quit whining. noone wants to hear it.

wont need bdsm?  have you tried alcohol? i find it makes for a very useful crutch. & the UK has some great beers.

my issues?  i have none.  just a short fuse for people with asinine questions who want to boo hoo about their very personal problems on a very public website.  like the good Mistress says, 'Save your shrink money.  Tell it to the whip." well, i've never actually HEARD anyone say that. but when i do, it will be love at first crack!

ha!

MistressDREAD -> RE: Emotional Issues (6/27/2006 1:09:07 PM)

with My understanding of *infectious*
I would have to say yes.
Easily or readily communicated like an infectious laugh or thought expressed.

MistressDiane -> RE: Emotional Issues (6/27/2006 1:42:54 PM)

I'm overweight
I have issues
I own guns!!!!

male23uk -> RE: Emotional Issues (6/27/2006 2:15:53 PM)

Thanks for the replies, a lot were defensive which is what i expected. LadyMorgynn seem quite reasonable and i thought kedikat you made sense that perhaps bdsm is a good outlet for some, but dont people think that perhaps its better expressed in other ways. I know I have a lot of repressed anger from a long time ago and i get the impression its a way for me to express/experience it in some way. For example I have a friend who was emotionally abused and his way of expressing it is to start fights every weekend, so i can see the link.

I wasn't trying to be controversial and don't mean any disrespect, just a lot of intelligent educated people say the same thing about bdsm I just don't agree that tere all talking nonsense.

scratchingpost -> RE: Emotional Issues (6/27/2006 2:30:02 PM)

Everyone has a history....I do not believe we do BDSM to "cure" our history though I am sure some might. Personally I do it because I like it and it is within Me to be this way
