Yeah, corn has been the standard, but with corn prices rising because of the ethanol boondoggle (don't get me started), they are looking for alternative. What is even worse is cattle are often fed a kind of feed that is made from bone meal made from slaughtered animals, and it is what leads to mad cow disease and such, they basically have turned cattle, which are herbivores, into cannibals. Between that, and the antibiotics they give them to try and keep them from dying in the factory farming, and the hormones they give them to make them grow fast, it is a wonder we all haven't seriously gotten sick (I kind of wonder, for example, if girls having their periods and hitting adolescance early isn't caused by the hormones). I try when I can to buy free range meat or even better, organic free range, or buy chickens not fed on corn and such. It isn't easy, the organic products are a lot more expensive, but given how little we eat, it may be worth it. The whole food chain is fucked up, and now we also have Monsanto slipping GMO's out there stealthily without telling farmers, real cute.
