I have no resentment over US energy independence - it would be a wonderful thing if we could collectively tell OPEC where to step off. The problem is with the environmental impact. Fracking is not a good idea, at least not how it is currently being performed. And pipelines leak - there's no way around it. So the question becomes Is it worth it? Is it worth destroying the Gulf Coast every-other decade? Is it worth having flamable drinking water? Is it worth the ever-increasing cost to extract every last drop of oil? What I DO resent is the GOP/Neo-Conmen blocking every attempt to develop something other than oil. They even shut down the Pentagon's effort to develop alternative energy sources - talk about biting the hand that feeds! I see oil being a large part of our energy needs for a long time. But there is no reason why we should not invest in other forms of energy. And no, I don't mean just the friendly, green stuff like wind & solar. They are important but aren't that large of a percentage. We need to look into hydrogen, salt reactors, battery life, and a dozen others so that we can LESSEN our dependence on oil no matter where it comes from.
