the one thing missing in export/import data is the monies associate with the export/import of intangible aka IP (intellectual property)

That's listed in the current account balance, not sure what data you are referring to there.

Monies paid to foreigners for licensing fees, those paid by foreigners to US license holders, it's all there.

What's my point? My point is that consumption is the problem here, not production. Who outproduces us? No one (not yet anyway). We are still the #1 producer. We are also still the #1 consumer. We consume more than we produce. Why? Because we can and we choose to. I don't think that's a good thing, either.

Last I checked, the US is actually a net exporter of services. It's just all those shirts and pyjamas and running shoes from countries that can't figure out how to build a factory that doesn't cave in on their workers that's the problem.

But Brazil is currently the seventh largest importer of goods and services from the US, and there is much upside obtainable there, as they progress.

All is not lost.
