A long time female friend of mine was visiting today, and she was complaining about the guys she had been meeting and dating lately.

Then she dropped a real smart statement into the conversation.

She said, "I wish I could find a single guy like you."

I pointed out that I was single.

A few minutes later she decided she had forgotten to pick up something at the store.

So I guess she must have meant " I wish I could find a single guy like you that is younger and skinner."

Or... she meant you, and was flustered.

I could go with "younger and skinnier".

Guy is right out, though.

That was my first thought, as well.

Instead of pointing out that you were single, which she already knew, you might have pointed out to her that because of your age, weight and a desire for quality sex you perfer the company of professional women for sex and if she wanted on the list she would need to practice up .

Did you think she meant "younger and skinnier" version of you because you've been long-time friends and you already know her dating habits lean that way?

Some people really do lack the capacity to participate in platonic friendships with the other sex. They are socialized to consider ALL others of the opposite sex as potential sexual partners. They think that everyone else sees the relations between the sexes in that way, too.

There are whole movies about men who've been put in the "friend zone," how to avoid being put in the "friend zone," etc... as if that were some awful place to be!

Maybe she's just not into guys who think she is saying a stupid thing, when she conveys a lack of sexual interest in them, when she 's not sexually interested in them?

Ordinarily, your statement might ring true. However, when someone says that they wished they could find a single person JUST LIKE YOU, and they know you are single, well, it kind of makes you wonder.

How much younger is she than you? The age difference might simply be too big. Sorry, it's not just a number.

It is highly unlikely that she is totally into you personality-wise, but she won't date you on account of your weight. Most women just aren't like that. If she is like that, then you shouldn't be into her.

She is definitely flustered...Had guys say that to me about their relationships, even when I was with Bo. These days, I just wave it off (I am not looking for anything, must be getting old).

I usually get "I wish there were more men like you, except thinner, had hair, taller, were moderately attractive, had a MasterCard with more than 36 bucks worth of availability left and could count to 7 without the assistance of a calculator".

Time takes its toll on all of us bubba :)

Although I respect your opinion.. I have to say that age difference is not always the answer. There is a much larger age gap between me and my Mister, and it works just fine. I know at least 3 other couples with a larger age gap than that...and they also get along fine.

JLF... you won't know unless you ask her, but you already know that.

I'm close to her age and I wouldn't date a man that much older than me either--Regardless of how fit, skinny, rich, etc he happened to be--Age really isn't *just* a number, no matter how many men from my father's generation try to tell me otherwise. I wouldn't take it personally if I were you.

To the OP, 19 years puts you in the "old enough to be [her] dad" category.

And my father is more than 20 years older than my stepmother. Exceptions to the rule happen just often enough for scores of wishful thinking older men out there to keep on kidding themselves.
