On the flip side, some places won't hire somebody that's highly educated and experienced for a low-skill/low-wage position, because they know that person is looking for a better job and will quit the moment they find it. It's a waste of money hiring and training people and doing background check, drug test etc if they're only going to stick around for a month anyway.

grace, in THIS economy they might be there for years, and it might be a good career move to help them get into a management position.
If it were so easy to get a job in their field, I doubt they would take a job as a cashier just for a month.

Fact is, we are going to have more and more college graduates, competing with a lot of non-college graduates for jobs that don't require a degree.
{As midmich stated twice on this thread, and he works in HR.}

I agree. When I was in school, they were phasing out the shop classes and home economics. Kids today aren't graduating from high school with any marketable skills to get a job

My high school still has a vocational division where they offer CAD, Carpentry, Computer sciences, Culinary Arts, Electrician, health careers, hotel and restaurant management, and machine shop.
