That always leads me to the following thought. Is it really true that these people are so incredibly stupid that they don't know that? Could they possible actually believe that "the party of angry white men" has a chance in modern american? I have a hard time believing that because we'd be talking IQ's in the 90 and below range and that just doesn't make sense. So what IS going on here? Why would a bunch of smart men hold to a doomed platform?

Keep in mind that we are talking a party of embittered fanatics - which for all practical intents and purposes has become a cult - so 'change' is simply not an issue. They honestly believe that they are Right all the time, so anyone who disagrees with them obviously is Wrong, so why should they make concessions to evil-doers? Imagine the NRA agreeing to ban automatic weapons, or the fundamentalists agreeing to allow abortion: see the problem?

It's not that they 'want to lose' - they want desperately to win, as evidenced their pandemic cheating, voter restriction laws, jerrymandering, etc. Nor are they stupid in the conventional sense. They simply are mind-locked on their Vision Of America, and can't bring themselves to make any real change - thankfully!

I suppose that's a possibility. But man... the level of tunnel vision that implies for a smart person to be able to ignore basically the entire tide of history. Then again, as I've noted, Democrats do the same thing so perhaps I'm simply too optimistic about human nature.

They aren't necessarily that stupid themselves (though many of them undoubtedly are, of course): this is a political version of "will it play in Peoria?" They feel that they have to cater for The Base, and their assumption appears to be that The Base (or at least their Base) is stuffed full of the entitled feeling mouthbreathers who even the teabaggers find embarrassing when they turn up at the rallies with signs that seem to have been translated from Finnish using babelfish and then painted by a paraplegic with a brush in their mouth.

It's basically down to contempt for the electorate, and in particular contempt for that part of it which persists in voting for them despite all of the shit they've spent the last thirty or forty years pulling.

Moon makes a good point with "will it play in Peoria." I think they have such an astigmatism they can't see the forest throught the trees. The same goes with the economics discussion that perpetually go round the merry-go-round in DC. There are the blinders of microeconomics slapped on, so they never understand the macroeconomic consequences.

With the base pandering of both sides it tends to get increasingly difficult to produce a level headed candidate out of the primaries. Until the norm of closed primaries is broken, there will be this continual drive to fringe until 70% is officially unaffiliated and one party implodes into oblivion. Currently, the GOP is headed there faster than the DNC.

Keep in mind too that the 'base' of the Democratic party is everyone who isn't a racist, religious fanatic, or 1%er. That's a pretty broad 'base'.

Uh.... some of us aren't any of those things we just believe in civil liberties, constitutional protections, due process, and a handful of other bits of trivia.

Honestly, I think most people who are democratic would be better served by Jill Stein than Obama from an actual issues standpoint. Her "Real State of the Union" was pretty fucking fantastic.

So do the Democrats, whether you accept that or not. You really need to tune out Fox, and get real.

Prediction.....the French-sounding Reince Priebus will NOT be around in '16'

I will disagree. Not really insulted by it at all. They've made the calculation that they aren't going to go after minorities as a voting block. I din't see it as being any different than what they've espoused over time.

Someone oughta tell that to Obama then because he clearly didn't get the memo.

Insofar as fox news, this may be hard for you to understand but I'm not a Republican. In point of fact the last major party I identified with was Democrats. I voted for Obama first term. Then he ... well ... did what he's done.

The President has never claimed to be something he wasn`t.

That he doesn`t please everyone IMHO, is a plus.Especially where leftie whiners are concerned....They only make the President look normal and like a moderate......which he is.

I actually get a kick out of my leftie friends when they bash the President, for not being left enough or for doing what THEY wanted him to.Not 1 tenth of the kick I get out of my rightie friends, but still satisfying.

The Muslim ring thing being my latest LMFAO fun........Thanks "master" Steed....
