Prediction.....the French-sounding Reince Priebus will NOT be around in '16' [:D]

DaNewAgeViking -> RE: RNC Announces Insultingly Small Minority Outreach Effort (3/17/2013 3:06:59 PM)

Hmmm.... From that article, it looks like the Radical strategy will be to limit exposure to the inevitable fact checking, and somehow limit how many candidates there are and how long they survive - top down electioneering; who'd a-thunk it?

Yeah that's pretty much the same take I got from the article too. All they are doing is trying to perfect their cover-up of ignorance and better manage damage control.

It's gonna take a heck of a lot more than $10 million for that! Not to mention how long will this attempt to limit/silence candidates last with all those towering egos On A Mission From God?

Sounds like they're trying to lose AGAINNNN dammit.

Moonhead -> RE: RNC Announces Insultingly Small Minority Outreach Effort (3/18/2013 5:47:24 AM)

Maybe they missed the memo that they should start looking for a credible candidate for 2016?

That's not the issue. The problem is their entire platform is ... well ... credible I suppose if you just fell off a turnip truck. But it certainly doesn't have broad appeal to voters and as we all know demographics are making that worse and worse.

That always leads me to the following thought. Is it really true that these people are so incredibly stupid that they don't know that? Could they possible actually believe that "the party of angry white men" has a chance in modern american? I have a hard time believing that because we'd be talking IQ's in the 90 and below range and that just doesn't make sense. So what IS going on here? Why would a bunch of smart men hold to a doomed platform?

Moonhead -> RE: RNC Announces Insultingly Small Minority Outreach Effort (3/18/2013 7:36:03 AM)

Maybe they just don't want to have to own the mess they caused the last time they were in power if they're re-elected? It'd explain the last couple of tickets they put up for election, I suppose.

Or, perhaps they figure another democratic president or two and the country won't vote democratic again for 20 years? That's a dangerous game though since Obama might just do away with the vote at the rate he's going.

We're to dumb to vote, figure out how much soda is in our diet, use a condom, decide to have kids, use inoffensive language, or resist that crazy red clown selling McNuggets... We need big brother to tie our shoes!!!

Moonhead -> RE: RNC Announces Insultingly Small Minority Outreach Effort (3/18/2013 9:40:16 AM)

That's "lazy" and/or "apathetic" rather than "dumb", which I'd argue is a lot worse, myself. A dumb person can wise up, but self inflicted fuckwittery is usually permanent.

FunCouple5280 -> RE: RNC Announces Insultingly Small Minority Outreach Effort (3/18/2013 9:46:24 AM)

But those arguments are being made more and more... I agree it is usually laziness. I have made that argument myself. But, the do-gooders on both sides are getting frustrated and they are resorting to forcing. Everyday the government gets bolder in ingnoring the votes of the public.

Where I disagree with Jeff is that we will lose the right to vote. I think we will always have it. I just think that he is effectively right in the sense that the vote will be so marginalized it will be meaningless to a point of triviality.

While I don't argue with your sentiment, the bolded part deserves some more careful inspection. I'm not really sure how well our brains resist repeated messaging. At a bare minimum I'd like to mandate some truth in advertising -- truth in labelling, etc.

I doubt most people would buy those really taste McNuggets if a part of the commercial was an actual look at what was in them. But our FDA thinks pink slime is "lean finely textured beef" and milk contains aspartame. People are being lied to by everyone which makes it kind of hard to "resist".

FunCouple5280 -> RE: RNC Announces Insultingly Small Minority Outreach Effort (3/18/2013 9:58:39 AM)

We are also being told repeatedly that it is bad for you. I used to smoke. When I started smoking, I was never under the impression that it wouldn't be harmful to me. Hell, it even said so on the box. I quit and feel better for it. In an odd yet ironic way I appreciate my health more now than if I had never done it. Let me tell you, I love McD's. I have gone months in my life without eating it no problem. Even gone on months of raw-food/juice diets. All of that was easy. Quitting smoking was a nightmare. After 10 years of being a smoker, it was like entering the 7th circle of hell. And it was for those around me too. I was a walking nightmare for a least a good month.

Yet, I would never advocate banning smoking all together.

A free society is only free if it allows people to make bad decisions for themselves.

informed bad decisions. I agree.

But I'm loathe to just pretend that everything we know about how brains work doesn't exist. It isn't so simple as "they oughta know better". I'm much more of a scientist type than an ideologue so I prefer solutions which match with actual reality.

To use your cigarette example, I find it ridiculous to allow a manufacturer to deliberately turn them into one of the most addictive substances known to man and then turn around and say "It's your choice". I might be cooler with cigarettes were it not for the tampering. I also struggle with this business of how social safety net interacts with free choice. I'm not likely to take up a stand on either end of that continuum.

RNC = Really, No Coloreds.

They secretly (I was a fly on the wall) believe they do not need minorities. Worse: minorities are evil. People of color are taking over the world, helped by nancy white intellectuals. Even worse: they have been successful in the states with 30 states headed by GOP Governors and a majority of state legislatures dominated by the Grand Cracker Party. Assisted by gerrymandered districts.

With a sympathetic Supreme Court they are in a position to NULLIFY acts of the Federal Government ala South Carolina 1832. Maybe this time successfully. Watch in July for the Court's ruling on Voting Rights Act and Abortion restrictions. The Civil War never ended. Google NULLIFICATION.

The issue I have with that is there is only so much you can force people to learn. If they don't want to hear it, they won't. Ask America's school teachers., even the best ones. There are some things some kids just won't learn.

At some point, you told'em they didn't listen, and they go out and do stupid anyways. Ultimately, you have just let people be ignorant and stupid to some extent.

Getting back to McD's they are the best a labeling their product. Not only are the calories on the menu now, but is all over the packaging too. And no one forced them by law to do it. Yet unlike cigarettes, where even 1 is harmful to you, a Big Mac eaten once and while is harmless and provides some nutrician.

I have said that in some ways Whole Foods is a bigger Asshole than the red clown when it ccomes to America's health because they have created this expectation that healthy food should bankrupt you.

I do believe they were forced by European law to show the calories and fat/sugar content because of the numerous complaints that it was falsely advertised as a 'healthy' and nutritious meal when in fact it was full of saturated fats and lots of other unhealthy things.

It provides a little protein, very little nutrition, and has been shown to be completely UNhealthy.

Personally, I much prefer BK to McD's any day.
Certainly for what they serve up over here anyways.
Bigger, better burgers. Lower saturated fat content.
And actually taste better IMHO.
And McD's fries are always over-salted, undercooked, and very limp.
BK's fries are better cooked, can be had unsalted if you prefer, and usually a lot crisper and better texture.

McD??? [:'(]
Even my kids won't touch McD's.

Not saying they do it right, just saying they do it better than the other joints. In the US they are really the only one to label anything and not hide it by the shitter in the back.

Lol comparing BK to McD is like Camel to Marlboro if you are talking health lol

Taste that is in the mouth of the beholder.

Fries...That's a shame. They are nice and crispy and not that salty the McDs by my house.

Tell that to a pregnant wife with some serious cravings ;)

freedomdwarf1 -> RE: RNC Announces Insultingly Small Minority Outreach Effort (3/18/2013 11:12:18 AM)

That's the US. lol.

And I do believe that BK proved (by their labelling over here) that their burgers were better by having less saturated fat and better salad additions.
And I prefer the taste of BK over McD's for everything on both menu's.
Over here, you can't get a half-pounder in McD's - they don't do them. You can in BK [:)]
McD's chicken anything tends to be overcooked and dry - not in BK's.
I have been in literally hundreds of BK's and McD's all over Europe and they are pretty much the same everywhere this side of the pond.
And I did have McD's several times when I lived in the US and I always got limp, undercooked, over-salted fries and there was no way I could get un-salted fries in a McD's. I know coz I asked in many places and was always refused - that's how their corporate menu is and that's how it is served to customers.
Maybe your local one is an exception to the rule.

Our labelling standards over here are waay better than in the US.
That is one thing I like being over here.
Too many ingredients not listed in US products.
