As a young attorney, I can tell you that if the opportunity presented itself to represent a side in a major action (civil or criminal), I would jump at the chance, regardless of whether that would ultimately pay me money. It's just smart business. But that doesn't mean he's recouped anything. It means his business grew. Casey Anthony still owes him for her legal fees (until the debt is discharged in bankruptcy).
