I'm not talking about hooking up, or a letch of a doctor taking advantage of his position. I'm talking about two consenting adults who want to get to know each other.......

Not sure if it matters, but this isn't a doctor that I've gone to on a regular basis. He's a specialist who treated me briefly a few years ago. I went back recently for his opinion on another issue, and we totally clicked. Chatted about nothing for quite awhile. He didn't in any way act inappropriately or step over any boundaries, but there seemed to be mutual attraction.

I have several doctor friends, and they all agree, it is NEVER appropriate to date a patient unless they're heavily sedated and naked.

Nookie for the 1000th time...your pervy dentist friend IS NOT a doctor!! Taking pictures up patients skirts also IS NOT dating

I think it was more of looking for him on facebook, not that he was already on her "friend's list." Just because he is a doctor doesn't mean he shouldn't have a personal facebook page. I read it as her friend suggesting that she find out if he does and then send him a message there.

Personally, I think if he has a page, she could potentially find out if he is married or involved with someone, thereby preventing her from making a fool of herself.

I have one of my doctors on my FB because if I have any kinds of problems but not so important that it's an emergency, I can still talk to her. She was the one who suggested it. I also have other professionals in my life on my FB because they post things like what's new in the medical field or the legal field or whatever.

Where did you get the notion that Facebook is 'an American thing'?

If a physician has reason to believe that non-sexual contact with a patient may be perceived as or may lead to sexual contact, then he or she should avoid the non-sexual contact. At a minimum, a physician’s ethical duties include terminating the physician-patient relationship before initiating a dating, romantic, or sexual relationship with a patient.

Nothing about a letter, 6 month waiting periods, not being friends on Facebook or elsewhere... or any of the other anile fearmongering gossip.

I have a feeling the 6 month period may be a hospital/clinic rule and not a nationwide rule.

Update - I talked to a friend of mine who is a doctor. She suggested that I send him a thank you note, and in it basically say I enjoyed talking with him, and if he ever wanted to meet for coffee here's my email. She agreed he can't make the first move because of his position, but this leaves it open for him if he is interested, but isn't as uncomfortable as me asking him out if he isn't.

Not sure if I'm going to do it or not........

Include a condom with the card.

How exactly do you think legal proof of severing doctor patient relationship occurs?? Mental telepathy? Sky writing? Maybe a jedi mind trick?

I think it sends a subtle, but very feminine message.

As long as it's a physician, and not a mental health profiessional, I don't understand why it would be a problem.

No one should ever date a psychiatrist, whether you're a patient or not. Those bastards are crazy.

Just kidding. Maybe.

Yup, that's exactly what I meant. I did find a facebook page for him, but it didn't give me any clue as to relationship status.

Did you do a google search? Amazing what you can find out from so little work.

I don't know what you do to protect yourself from the sky falling, but Jay Leno recommends having a camera crew focused on him 24/7, and notarized waivers from every person he ever speaks to.

Ah, but did you perv his photo section? Lots of people don't list relationship status (I know my son doesn't, and I don't think I do either), but typically there will be photos of them with their significant others. What about a wedding ring?

And of course, google him like littlewonder suggests.

I had googled him, but didn't come up with anything that wasn't related to his practice. I can't access his photos on face book 'cause of his privacy settings. He doesn't have a wedding ring........
