Status: offline 		I have PTSD and bipolar disorder, I have no problem talking about it.

But this deals with my husky?timber wolf hybrid.

I take my meds at 7AM and 7PM.

I keep one of those daily med dosage things on my desk.

If I am not at my desk at the correct time to take my meds, Princess, the dog in question, brings them to me, and if I am in the bathroom she scratches and whines at the door.

How in the hell does she know what time it is?

Status: offline 		I have no idea, maybe they just get used to the schedule. Or maybe they just have an internal clock.


My husband ex military man that he is put ours on a set schedule. They eat every day at 6am and 6pm and they go out at certain times. My jack/beagle literally starts screaming at me if I am not fixing her food by 5:50pm. On the weekends forget sleeping in.

Status: offline 		I have a bad habit of sleeping through the alarm. Princess comes in to my room, if she isnt sleeping on the bed, and proceeds to kiss me till I am awake. She lets me take a few drags from a smoke before heading to the back door, and once I am ready to open it, she barks to alert the other five dogs in the house that it is time to go out.

Status: offline 		Lol my aussie is a licker. He tries to lick me, but usually gets swatted. I'm kinda cranky when I'm woken up. If he whines though I know it's serious and I need to get up. Since licking me doesn't work, he licks my husbands head over and over. This usually happens on the weekends. They usually start rustling around about ten minutes before our alarms go off during the week.

At night before bed, my husband tells our female to go get her brother it's time to go potty and she wanders off to the bedroom. They both come out and head off outside.

Status: offline 		Pets know what time it is the same way people do, internal clock (I'll wake up on time even if I forgot to set my alarm, a LOT of other people will too). Your body does all sorts of things automatically based on the time of day, without you even knowing.

Yours may be broken, or not potent enough to ring an alarm in your brain.

Status: offline 		Our chipmunks and our tropical & marine fish get fed at 6pm.
five minutes before feeding time the chipmunks start clanking their china feeding bowls together and make a right din.
The fish start gathering around one end of the tank and stare at you until they see you pick up their food container.

I can sort-of understand the idea of an internal 'clock'.
But how the hell do they know when the clocks go back or forward 1 hour??
Our pets don't miss a beat!
When our clocks change, they know and they still get ready for feeding at 6pm!

How do they know that??

Status: offline 		Well, can't answer that question really, but right now with my regular work shedule they get an idea about my shedule....

last time when F visited me again he told me later in the day that he was irritated when he woke up and Urmels face was right in front of him....he isn't used to that cause he never had pets (though thankfully he loves cats) and told me that afterwards Urmel came to my side of the bed and looked in my face which I did not realise as I was too well asleep.....I guess in that instance Urmel was thinking "why the heck don't you get up, it is not dark anymore outside, no need to stay in the bed...."

Status: offline 		I think it's as SW said, that pets have "internal clocks." It's the same reason that animals know when to hibernate, or mate, or migrate. (those smart little guys!)

Yes we do - Siberian white chipmunks.

That might seem strange to those over the pond where they run around in their thousands and are often treated as vermin pests.
But over here in the UK, chipmunks are still quite a rarity as pets; the white ones even more so.

Status: offline 		How interesting! I've never heard of/knew there were such things as white chipmunks!

Are they allowed to roam free in your house? And are they the size of "regular" chipmunks?

I have TONS of brown forest chipmunks where I live. And, although they are sweet-looking, charming little rascals, they can be terribly destructive... everything from house foundations to garden walls.

I'd be happy to ship some of mine your way! LOL

She gets fed around 7 in the morning and again at 10 in the evening (the schedule is left over from when I was in law school, since that would be when I'd get up, shower, and leave, and then when I'd get back a lot of nights). At about 6:50 she's crawling all over me, headbutting me in the face, and "yelling" at me to get up. Then at night, she'll start crying that she's hungry about 9, every single night.

How does she manage to keep up with all the different time changes? I don't know. Perhaps they have an internal clock, of course. Or, an idea that I haven't seen here yet...maybe they pick up on certain cues from their people? I don't know that I give off any specific cues, but I can't rule it out, and I know pets are sensitive to that kind of thing.

They are the same size/dimensions as the more common brown or cinamon chipmunks.
They aren't albino as some people think - they still have the tan coloured stripes down the back and brown coloured eyes (an albino is all white with red eyes).

We keep ours indoors in a 5ft cage and in the process of building another bigger one.
We daren't let them out because they are quicker than lightning and you'd never catch them!
And yes, they are extremely destructive!
They'll chew on anything and like a beaver they'll chew it completely to bits.

We used to have just the two, a breeding pair (treacle and smudge), and mum had 3 boy kittens who are now almost a year old.
About 3 months ago we lost smudge, the dad.
Not sure what happened but it looked like he had a massive stroke.
One minute he was ok and the next he was collapsed on the floor in a coma.
We managed to find a vet that knows something about chipmunks but he died naturally while she was looking at him.
They usually mate for life and Treacle pined for over two months but she is now coming out of her box a lot more often.
We get the distinct impression that if she hadn't had the boys around she would have pined away.

They all have their own character and ours are quite tame.
We can actually leave the cage door open and they don't want to come out!

Status: offline 		Every day after school, our dog used to meet us at the bus stop at the end of the road. Mom said she'd head down a few minutes before it was due.

Status: offline 		Cats do the same here. You'd think having one licking the tops of your feet and the other staring you in the face would somehow become endearing, and really....no.
They also tell me when it's time (in their opinion) for me to go to bed. Here's the sad part. I'm so freaking submissive, the cats dominate me.
