Yeah. People wonder why I post at all hours. It's insomnia.

It's not the staying up that bugs Me. It's the crash part that is the issue.

~FR~

In my younger days I have tried all kinds of drugs, but nothing has impaired me more than the sleep dep from insomnia. I recently had an incident that has caused some neurological issues, and one of the results is insomnia or sleep cycle disturbance. Things have gotten better, but the insomnia remains even with melotonin.

Ambien. Which, yes, is addictive.

And causes fugue states while the user acts quite stoned (from what I've been told, and evidence found the next morning).

And can be dangerous. Semi-coherent cooking? Risky.

But that shit WORKS.

Benadryl leaves a hangover. And eventually the effects are attenuated.

Melatonin is a placebo. Oh-- Spoiler Alert.

fellow sufferer here.

as with LP; it's not the staying awake that does my head in, it is the need for the crash. i used to be ok when with my ex because if it happened i knew he was there to take over anything that needed doing. these days on my own....well that's just it, i have responsibilities that i can't leave to anyone else. i haven't been able to allow myself a proper crash day in 3.5yrs.

it's not just a lack of sleep though. it affects everything else. i have nerve damage in my back and the more tired i become the more pain that causes me. i get achy legs and often need to walk late at night, but again i can't as a single woman on my own. i suffer with flu like symptoms alot of the time so that i am never sure whether i am really ill or not. i suffer migraines, and headaches ALOT. this last one has been lingering for two weeks.

what is worse is that when i'm with my playmate i can feel myself wanting to crash. it's because i know he's there and i've been able to actually sleep when with him. however, as we don't live close to each other we don't get to spend alot of time together. so feeling that way when i have so little time with him is annoying too. the upside is that when we are together i get to walk out late at night as he enjoys it too......or at least pretends enough to come with me lol

so yeah, i am insomnia's bitch.

I fall asleep faster with melatonin. The sublingual kind works for me - the other kind does not.

But the best predictor for a good night sleep is my activity level - if I exercise, I sleep better. Try yoga in the evening?

Have you addressed sleep hygiene issues?

Fucking hate melatonin, nyquil, benadryl, any otc product. They do nothing I mean nothing for me, even Tramadol does nothing. Let's see, here's my sleep for the week so far:

Sun: 4 hours
Mon: 3.5 hours
Tues. none, awake all night
Wed. 4 erratic hours

I could cry or kill someone right now and I can't nap or I will risk any chance of sleeping tonight. I have called all my fellow bartender friends trying to get some kind of meds to sleep, hopefully someone will have a few valiums or ambien to spare. I have got to get some sleep tonight.

Poor dear, that's terrible. The only OTC sleep aid that works for me is the antihistimine Doxylamine, Equate Brand. Don't know if might help you. Good luck.

The best thing I've found is a whole food liquid vitamin called Passion 4 Life. It has pretty much wiped mine out.

Hate it. It comes and goes with me these days. I can usually get to sleep after an hour or so but wake up three or four times a night. When I was at my worst I was on 150 mg of Trazadone and still wide awake.

It's never made me hallucinate but it does make me kind of forget. I'll wake up and I can't remember what I was doing just as I fell asleep. I also eat without realizing it. I don't get up and go to the kitchen or anything but if there's a snack in the room, I'll find the empty package the next morning. It's weird but it does help me sleep so I bear with it........luci

I had issues all last week that even Vicodin and red wine couldn't help. Blah.

I don't wish to try Ambien, my mom took it, and went downstairs, made herself a sandwich, then took a tumble down the basement steps. Apparently when my dad went to get her, she was crying about "Saving Christmas" and was a hot mess the next day.
