In the 45 minutes the musician played, only 6 people stopped and stayed for a while. About 20 gave him money, but continued to walk their normal pace. He collected $32.

well,... I am not that keen on classical music.. $32 for 45 minutes isnt bad, really (considering it was rush hour).. but definately below his pay grade.. [:D]

That is actually one reason for me to leave the US.. its a rat race, for many a treadmill to nowhere, people grinding out a living (if you can call it that).. I want to live a more carefree life where I can stop whenever I want to smell the roses.. that is the goal anyway.. in a somewhat similar way you changed your past life for your present one.. The Original title Of The Piece was  Pearls Before Breakfast
it won a Pulitzer Prize.  It was published in April of 2007.

Here is some footage on youtube:

It is interesting to Google "Pearls Before Breakfast" to see the
commentary it has been generating ever since.

I know its off topic but I just wanted to to say, its a brave thing to take that leap but if you really want it, you will find an opportunity. Good luck.:)

Absolutely excellent. Thanks!

The same scenario could be interpreted as the effect of an inappropriate venue.

A violin in a train station is so inappropriate and lacking in decent harmonics with such a high noise environment it just becomes noise adding to the stress of mass transit. Saying people didn't notice the beauty is like saying people are uncultured for giggling at the woman that shows up in an evening gown to a monster truck show.

In the UK we have a famous street artist called Banksy. [...] I could of photographed Banksy in action [:o]

Talk about a missed opportunity. I adore that genre, and Banksy in particular.

Where I live, we have Dolk in the same genre (though arguably not on the same level).

I love classical music and opera. I was exposed to Mozart at an early age and immediately fell in love (so much so, it prompted me to learn the violin and shortly thereafter German - well, an attempt to learn German). I would, and have, stopped and listened in awe...if it weren't rush hour on my way to work. I would have been like the kid wanting to listen, but being tugged away. Not from a hand, but from responsibility. I believe this experiment was designed to fail.

I live in Banksy's city of Bristol (or his last recorded city, anyway). And . . . I think I've found a new one of his, so far unrecognised.

The subway is not a place I feel safe. Plus expecting me to miss a train and be late is not appropriate. Now, if it were good weather and this was in Central Park, I imagine the results would have been quite different.
