JstAnotherSub -> I am thankful for... (11/19/2012 4:38:06 AM)

I am trying to avoid a funk that is attempting to take me over during this holiday season, so I am gonna try this. I hope others will join in, because someone else may remind me of things I should be thankful for that I just do not see.

I am thankful for my son, who while not perfect by any means, is a good kid and tries his best.

I am thankful for my health, and the fact that slowly but surely, I am making it even better.

I am thankful for a job that I absolutely love.

I am thankful that I have a home, groceries, and a truck that is damn near paid for.

I am thankful for music, which soothes my soul when nothing else will.

I am thankful for the porch, which when combined with music, really soothes me.

More to follow, I am sure, but this at least got me started on some positive thoughts!

Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn't learn a lot today,
at least we learned a little, and if we didn't learn a little,
at least we didn't get sick, and if we got sick,
at least we didn't die; so, let us all be thankful.
- The Buddha

I have a job.
I have a wonderful house.
I have a daughter who may reconcile with me some day.
I have a two stepsons.
I have a sub who meets my needs.
We have an "adopted daughter".
I have never gone hungry and even if I didn't eat for two weeks, I have cleverly set aside a food reserve internally.
I have an education.
I have a car.
I have friends and a position of respect in the community.
None of my neighbors can see how covered with leaves my back yard is, and I swear I'll get to that soon.
Aside from diabetes, I'm in pretty god shape for 56.
I have great neighbors.
I have two cats, one of whom is the most affectionate cat I've ever known.

Typical male dominant thinking, eh Aylee?!

I am thankful for my children who, while being a challenge from time to time, are nevertheless a gift from God.
I am thankful for my husband of 21 years, who has been the one true love of my life since grade one.
I am thankful that my father moved to my city. As he ages, I worry less about him because we can help him.
I am thankful my children are growing up in the presence of my Dad, as I grew up many miles from my grandparents.
I am thankful I live in a politically stable country, and am far removed from the strife many nations are in right now.
I am thankful K came into my life, as he has helped me resolve many things.

I am thankful for my Mom, who was an enormous help during my move last weekend. She did twice the work of people half her age :)

littlewonder -> RE: I am thankful for... (11/19/2012 1:01:15 PM)

Yeah, I haven't really been all that thankful lately. Just been feeling sorta blah lately.

So here goes though.

I am thankful for having a wonderful and patient man in my life even though I am an idiot at times and haven't been that great a slave lately.
I am thankful to have a beautiful and wonderful daughter even though lately I'm not agreeing with her choices in life whatsoever.
I am thankful to have a place to live in a decent neighborhood and a decent landlord even though he annoys me at times with his incessant chats.
I am thankful to be able to support myself financially.
I am thankful to not be starving.
I am thankful to be able to do what I want these days short of Master allowing it.
I am thankful that my health is ok, not great but better than most people's health it seems.

ChatteParfaitt -> RE: I am thankful for... (11/19/2012 3:01:31 PM)

Great thread. I have much to be thankful for.

I am thankful for my most loving and kind Mister who I love and adore beyond measure. I am thankful that he never gave up on me and us in those early years when life was much more of a struggle.

I am thankful for my children, and most especially thankful as I seem to be reconciling with my daughter.

I am thankful for my marvelous submissive, who in these last few months has embraced our poly family and made himself an essential (if secondary) member.

I am thankful for my cats, who are both worth their weight in gold in terms of the companionship and love they provide.

I am thankful we all have relatively good health.

I am thankful for this world that is filled with things to be thankful for: great people, who have created great music, great food, great books, great art, great film, etc, AND the marvels of nature, AND the mysteries of the cosmos.

I am thankful it's a great life from my viewpoint.

I am thankful that my child is loved by many people and will always be taken care of, even if something happened to me.
I am thankful that I was born into a world of privilege - I have never been without food, or a roof over my head, and I have luxuries.
I am thankful that I get to raise children in a country where they will get health care and an education not dependent on our income.
I am thankful for the police, who work damn hard in an often thankless job.
I am thankful that I live in a place where the police and the politicians can be criticized without fear of violence.
I am thankful for a family who have always believed in me and loved me.
I am thankful that thanks to generations of scientists my life expectancy is high.
I am thankful that my amazing body surprises me every day with what it can do.

I, like many of you, have so much to be thankful for........

          1. My health.  On Dec. 4th it will be 5 years since I was blessed enough to receive a kidney transplant.  I'm forever grateful to the donor's family and humbled by their generosity and giving spirit in their time of grief and loss.
         2. My elderly father........He is 84 and living with me.  He drives me nuts.  I love him to death and am happy (for the most part lol) to have him here with me when he needs someone to care for him.
         3. My daughter, who I pray daily will be willing to reconsile with me.  And my beautiful grandchildren who I cannot see, but hear occasionally how well they are doing.  They are a huge blessing and yet a cause of deep sadness that I can't see them at this point.

         4. My part time job......Just started it, needed it desperately, and appreciate the heck out of the family who decided to hire me to care for their elderly father.

          5. My friends.  I am truly blessed to have a few wonderful people who have gone above and beyond to stick by me thru my health issues and personal problems in the past.  Whoever said blood is thicker than water?  :)  They are as much family as my relatives are!

           6. Last but not least, my wonderful critters who I share my life with.  They are amazing best friends and a great source of comfort when I've been down.

There is lot's more .........way to much to list here.  I wish all on CM a Blessed Holiday with family and friends.............

...a decent relationship with my daughter though I was estranged from her due to my mental illness.

...for finding a treatment that is actually working.

...friends who understand what I am going through and brothers who are bratty...

...for being a cheapstake and helping my daughter get her books as cheap as possible (gotta love ebay).

at the moment times are tough for my boy and i. sometimes i have real difficulty in seeing things to be thankful for too. however, i do have some;

that i have my son. his company and help are worth an immence amount to me.
that he has a good friend who also helps me out without expectation. but that this friend is a rock for my boy while we go through our bad time is also a blessing for me.
that while there are changes going on that i can not control i will be able to deal with them.
that i learnt to drive, passed my tests first time, and now have a car. it may not be new, or sporty, but it does the job i need it to do. there have been many times that i have patted the stering wheel and thanked my car. i am very greatful for it.
that i have family and friends that i can tollerate.
that i my playmate is in my life. i am greatful to him more than he knows.
that i have my animals, and for all the ones i have had that have helped shape my life, and even save it at times.

i'm sure there are more, but that will do for now.

I am thankful for my life, that God thought I deserved a second chance. 2012 has been an amazing year.
I am thankful for Mr. Odeen coming into my life. I am so grateful for his kindness, love, compassion, friendship and unconditional support.
I am thankful that despite everything that has happened my parents still love and support me. I'm grateful that I have a huge extended family who are just so lovely.
I am thankful for my cat Ruby, who is just a beautiful little soul who gives me so much love and support.
I am thankful that I have been able to take control over my life, my mind, my body this year - that I have health insurance and a team of amazing health professionals helping me.
I am thankful that I discovered yoga. Yoga has become therapy for my broken heart and everyday I practice, more and more of my heart heals.
I am thankful for the roof over my head, financial security, a good education for future job prospects and living in a safe, beautiful country.

Missokyst -> RE: I am thankful for... (11/19/2012 8:55:33 PM)

I am like you in that I detest the holiday season. Normally I am in a serious funk from Nov till Jan, but this year feels a bit different. As I drive around town I notice that there is a huge increase in our homeless population. Their crude signs are asking for things like food, warm clothing, large plastic bags to keep off the rain, or a tent for shelter. Some of them have a dog or two in tow with only a small layer of fat to ward off the cold.

I am indeed grateful for having great kids, a place to live, food to eat, and a job that challenges me, though those things never quite got me through a season that is a rush of anxiety, drawn out slowly over months. Last year I volunteered on Thanksgiving to serve food at the local shelter. Still.. not quite there. But this year as I watch the numbers of people out there, now gathered in groups and huddled together I tried a different tact. Instead of the one day deal now I keep food in my car, for people there are sandwiches and sometimes soup depending on the day. And for the dogs I have pouches of dog food handy that I give when ever I see an animal out on the streets. If I have a spare coat or sweater, instead of letting them clutter my closets or drawers I give them out.

This season is still hellish for me, but less so now that I have started a more determined push to do good.
