DeviantlyD -> RE: I am thankful for... (11/19/2012 10:57:56 PM)

This still holds true...plus having a job to support myself...having love from those in my life..."meeting" CRYPTICLXVI and countless other things that I cannot think of because I am functioning on less than 5 hours of sleep and should get to sleep soon. :)

* i'm thankful for this country, it's been 23 yrs since i moved here
* i'm thankful i'm now gainfully employed. i'll be making less money soon, but will have paid days off, and sick leave and so on....
* i'm thankful for my beautiful and bright daughters, and the men that make them happy
* i'm thankful for an adorable granddaughter who loves her nonna and is learning how to make proper (albeit) instant coffee, and who calls it 'caw' & dips her fingers in every morning.
* i'm thankful for the kookaburra's who wake me up every morning, i love that i'm in a place that i can hear them every day
* i'm thankful for seeing a koala (looked like a teenager!) this morning, perambulating along the road 3 minutes from home. we looked at each other as i slowed down, then we both kept on heading off to our places of work

I am thankful for my Mom, who was an enormous help during my move last weekend. She did twice the work of people half her age :)

Mom's. They are truly the best.

There's nothing better to be thankful for.

They are the best.

The reason I get this funk is because mom crashed the day after Thanksgiving, was in the hospital for a week, then in home hospice, with me there 24/7, until she passed on Dec 29th. I find my self reliving each moment of it, and missing her more every year, rather than the pain fading some each year.

If ya have ya momma, I don't care how much she drives you insane, be thankful for her. Ya sure miss them when they are gone!

I am like you in that I detest the holiday season. Normally I am in a serious funk from Nov till Jan, but this year feels a bit different. As I drive around town I notice that there is a huge increase in our homeless population. Their crude signs are asking for things like food, warm clothing, large plastic bags to keep off the rain, or a tent for shelter. Some of them have a dog or two in tow with only a small layer of fat to ward off the cold.

I am indeed grateful for having great kids, a place to live, food to eat, and a job that challenges me, though those things never quite got me through a season that is a rush of anxiety, drawn out slowly over months. Last year I volunteered on Thanksgiving to serve food at the local shelter. Still.. not quite there. But this year as I watch the numbers of people out there, now gathered in groups and huddled together I tried a different tact. Instead of the one day deal now I keep food in my car, for people there are sandwiches and sometimes soup depending on the day. And for the dogs I have pouches of dog food handy that I give when ever I see an animal out on the streets. If I have a spare coat or sweater, instead of letting them clutter my closets or drawers I give them out.

This season is still hellish for me, but less so now that I have started a more determined push to do good.

You rock. Thank you for your post. Shit like this, inspires me.

Yeah, I haven't really been all that thankful lately. Just been feeling sorta blah lately.

So here goes though.

I am thankful for having a wonderful and patient man in my life even though I am an idiot at times and haven't been that great a slave lately.
I am thankful to have a beautiful and wonderful daughter even though lately I'm not agreeing with her choices in life whatsoever.
I am thankful to have a place to live in a decent neighborhood and a decent landlord even though he annoys me at times with his incessant chats.
I am thankful to be able to support myself financially.
I am thankful to not be starving.
I am thankful to be able to do what I want these days short of Master allowing it.
I am thankful that my health is ok, not great but better than most people's health it seems.

I am thankful that the little one doesn't use any disclaimers or qualifiers [8D]

ha ha ha.....I think I learned that from you Master, being careful about how I word things these days. [8D]

I was going to say, I'm thankful my country doesn't have 'Thanksgiving' but then I read your post.
We need more people like you in the world.

Lucifyre -> RE: I am thankful for... (11/22/2012 6:47:15 AM)

I am thankful for my beautiful kids. They sometimes drive me crazy but make me smile and laugh and feel very very much loved waaaay more often than not ;)
For my husband. It seems that sometimes He doesn't give half a damn about the little things in life, but He knows a lot of them are important to me so He indulges me in the silly things I enjoy and tells me He loves me for being who I am...often ;)
For the material things I have that make my life much easier. My truck, my home, my computer...things I don't need to survive but they sure make living much more convenient.
For my father. Though when he was still with us he wasn't able to do much, and he felt extreme guilt over it for many years, I loved him all the same. Every time I was able to speak with him before he passed away, I felt great love and warmth. I miss him terribly. Now that he is gone he has somehow managed to provide for me and help me make great changes in my life that I otherwise would probably never have been able to do on my own.
For my business and my husbands income. Mr is able to work and provide all things neccessary in our lives, but my work to me is my therapy. The income I bring is small, but it provides me with enough to spend on what I need to continue working and that makes me extremely happy.
For my furbabies. I only have one left now, but over the course of all thier lives they have given me unconditional love and even at my lowest points of depression have managed to provide a warm fuzzy snuggle at just the right moments to lift me away from the overwhelming sadness that sometimes has tried to drown the happiness out of my life.

I have much to be thankful for!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!

Lucifyre
