ORIGINAL: QueenRah JJ, As noted, maine coon cats must hunt. They are a very high-energy, high-prey drive cat. The constant nagging to be let out is really him begging for some activity. If you don't do this, already, supply him with toys that simulate the hunt and use those toys in interactive play. After about an hour of play, each day, if need be, broken into smaller time segments, you will have a satisfied cat and flesh less gound-meaty. The "fishing lure" type toy (with a long handle for the human, a line and a toy at the end of the line) is ideal for this type of play. Giving him about an hour of play time per day should work out his muscles and stimulate his mind. Please, keep in mind, anything with string or cord should be put up and away from his reach, when you cannot supervise. Cats will swallow strings, etc., rather than spit them out. I remember quite a few unfortunate cats in surgery for removal of strings, shoelaces, leather cords, etc., when I worked in veterinary hospitals. QR This works. My maine coon is quite calm and content if played with for a while every day. If not... Also I take her for walks on a small dog harness and leash. It took a little effort to get her used to it but it does allow me to take her outside without her running off or killing half the neighborhood wildlife.
