MistressDarkArt -> Doggy Poop Bags Left On Trail (9/29/2012 7:59:32 PM)

I hike a lot. Often it's late in the evening when it's almost dark and there is no one around with dogs. More and more I see plastic bags filled with dog poop left either right in the middle of or on the trail side. It's nearly night; no one is coming back for them.

Will someone please explain why folks bother to bag it up if they're not going to hike it out to properly dispose of? Do these dog owners think there is a fairy godmother who flies along the trail scooping up dog poop bags into her floating trash can during the middle of the night? What am I missing here?

Ummmm....that people are a bunch of unmannered berks?

littlewonder -> RE: Doggy Poop Bags Left On Trail (9/29/2012 9:07:54 PM)

People do that in my alley AAALLLL the time and it's disgusting. I like across from a large park in Baltimore that's a leashed dog park area as well. So basically they walk their dogs in the park, walk through the alley to go home or wherever they are going and just dump their bags sometimes right in front of my door or across the alley and if the garbage is out for pick-up and after it's been picked up and I haven't brought in my can yet, they throw their poop bags inside which is just sooooo disgusting! I mean, there are trash cans in the park for this exact reason! Use the park dog owners!!!

I have a suspicion that they do the minimum of what the law says here....to bag up your poop. So they do only as far as the law tells them to but figure "ok, I bagged it up, so now I'll just put it on the sidewalk or grass because it's dog poop. I did what I am expected to do and no more".

hausboy -> RE: Doggy Poop Bags Left On Trail (9/29/2012 9:16:03 PM)

same here littlewonder! They toss the bags of poop into my cans or leave it by my cans...and the bags break down & I've got a whole mess. I swear if I find out who's doing it, I'm gonna follow them home and take a crap on their stoop.

littlewonder -> RE: Doggy Poop Bags Left On Trail (9/29/2012 9:19:29 PM)

Yeah! I mean it's just gross! I'm tempted to follow one home one day and when they go inside, just drop a bag of poop on their front steps. [X(]

Oh so there IS a fairy godmother (or father!)

Better yet, Haus: poop in a doggy bag, find their porch, and set it on fire!

And while we're on the subject, what makes owners think it's OK for their dog to piss on your bushes the same time every day like clockwork? Or piss on them even once? Do they live by their dogs' rules: if you can't eat it or f*ck it, piss on it?

It's nature's way. And it isn't piss, it's p-mail.

Um, yeah. How do I 'return to sender'?

littlewonder -> RE: Doggy Poop Bags Left On Trail (9/29/2012 10:27:35 PM)

Here in my part of Baltimore, almost everyone has a sign in their little sidewalk area saying "this is not your dog's yard" or something like that. Not sure how well it keeps owners from doing that with their dogs. But it's definitely of a big problem around here. Here where I live I think 75% of people own dogs because of the park across the street.

By doing the sorts things that would cause owners to hang their baggies from your front door.

I can completely agree with people in dense population areas needing to be responsible for their animal's droppings. I live surrounded by wide open spaces, and most people walk their dogs in the desert, around here. Mother Nature deals with it pretty quickly, in this environment. Our guys mostly take care of business in a corner of the yard, and I rake and shovel as needed.

Scent marking, though? Seriously?

myotherself -> RE: Doggy Poop Bags Left On Trail (9/29/2012 11:35:07 PM)

I started finding strange dog poop on my front yard last week. It's not my dogs' poop because they're not allowed on that area as it's open to the road. Yesterday I was up early and looked out of the window and saw this guy with a huge dalmation, standing on the street while his dog left a shit the size of a football on my lawn. He then walked away and left it.

I went out into the garden, bagged up the poop and started to follow them from a distance. They walked a couple of blocks and went into a house. I knocked on the door and, when the guy answered the door, I handed him the bag and said 'you left this behind' then turned and left.

He hasn't walked past this morning yet, but if he does he'll find his poop on his doorstep...and not necessarily in a bag lol

needlesandpins -> RE: Doggy Poop Bags Left On Trail (9/30/2012 2:29:35 AM)

i've had all the same things here in the uk. every now and then the council spend money on sending people out with a stencil, and spray can. they spray a dog doing a poo with a cross through it on the pavements. i think some owners see it as a challenge slammed down by the council because the amount of crap that ends up on or around those signs is unreal. we also have signs saying that anyone caught not picking up after their dog will be fined £50. the trouble is is that there is no-one to enforce it.

if you spot someone allowing their dog to crap in the same place everyday, and report them the council still do nothing. i spotted a guy letting his loose dog mess on the ladie's drive straight across from me i waited for him one morning, and then had a go at him about it. i told him that should he continue to let his dog do this i'd collect all the muck on the street and make a personal delivery to his house just to see how he'd appreciate the offer. he didn't do it again.

i also live right next to the trans pennine trail. most of it is an old railway track that has been planted with different bushes, and trees. the last time DrG, and i walked up there we noticed that there were bags of dog muck stuck in trees. we couldn't understand why you'd go to the trouble of picking it up, but then throw it in the bushes to spoil everything for everyone else. most of it was in the same area, so i'm guessing it's the same person doing it.

i'd rather people just leave the stuff in the open on the side of the tracks than put it in bags that don't degrade.

I've seen this too, and as it was my habit to pick up trash on my dog walks, I was quite surprised the first time I picked one up. A few days later, I was walking by the house of what I can only term as a "character" (judging by his beard, home, and bumper stickers), and duct taped to a tree, next to the sidewalk, at eye level, was a bag and a note that said in big bold letters, "THIS IS YOUR BAG OF SHIT.
WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU BAG IT AND LEAVE IT ON MY LAWN
TAKE IT HOME ASSHOLE "

Sure gave me a chuckle. The bag and note were gone the next day. The duct tape is still there.
