For those who still think all Muslims are terrorists.

This was great to see. Hopefully, this will tone down the knee-jerk reactions.

A show of support for America in the Middle East! Yay!

DomKen -> RE: Libyans protest against Islamic extremist militias. (9/22/2012 7:36:15 AM)

It appears we have made a true ally in the people of Libya. Now we have to not screw it up.

So let me see if I have this right, Polite. You start by assigning the "all muslims are terrorists," position to anyone who might disagree, and then contend that increasing violence in Libya is a wonderful sign of good things ahead...

I’m signing up Polite for a new investment project – Mohammadian toilet paper – Koranic script on one side, a pleasing image of Mohammad on the other, each roll personally blessed by Terry Jones...

Here's the problem with that, Anaxagoras. I reject Islam because it is incompatible with my beliefs about the relationship of humanity to divinity. Since that is just as blasphemous to a muslim fanatic, as saying, "Mohammed sucks camel cock," we might as well have some laughs in the mix.

Geting back to the topic of the thread, though, here is a broader report on what's happening in Libya.

Washington Post: In Libya, dueling protests reflect struggle for nations soul

FullCircle -> RE: Libyans protest against Islamic extremist militias. (9/22/2012 9:38:00 AM)

Rightly so. People in that region are using this film as an excuse to commit anti American acts of violence. Freedom of expression is an important thing. We seem to be on a slippery slope where ridiculing religious belief is not allowed. We should look into our past to rediscover where that kind of thing leads eventually. Why should someone care what somebody else says about their faith? It's a perverted situation you have where people think killing a creation of some omnipotent being is what that omnipotent being would want? If god created all around us then they created it for a reason and so the continued existence of these bigots is a requirement of that entity perhaps? Perhaps you fail the test if you kill them rather than pass the test. Who can second guess the wants and desires of a fictional being, only the creator of that fictional being.

Rich, have you been reading different threads to me ? I know you are getting better at spin but this takes the biscuit.

Only a Republican could be unhappy to a show of support for the US in Libya.

It is very important for people everywhere to understand that there are moderate people in all countries.

We are all waging our own battles with the religious right/religious extremists.

Moderates in every country need to support each other. It is the only way we will free ourselves from the religious tyranny that goes on not just in other places, but even in places like the U.S. Politics and religion do NOT mix. And when they do, you get repressive laws, restrictions on free speech, the oppression of women, and many, many other ills.

I would never want anyone to think that conservatives and the religious right in America somehow represent all of us. Because they absolutely do not.

In the same way, I cannot label any other country or peoples in their entirety to be terrorists, extremists or whatnot. Why? Because it is simply not true.

Certainly not. We are just the ones who keep the guns oiled, to make sure you can keep your mouth running.

Really ?
I hope this is tongue in cheek, cause ,to the best of my knowledge, the US Armed forces has never, ever, imposed a political purity test to see if one is qualified to serve, and possibly die or be maimed,to protect this country's freedoms.

slvemike4u -> RE: Libyans protest against Islamic extremist militias. (9/22/2012 12:11:38 PM)

Well that clears things up

Ummmm, not really Rich,I'm still confused. It's a given(in my mind at least) that the no refers to the rights defense of the Second, but in truth no one is attacking the Second,in spite of all the rights claims to the contrary.
No one is coming for your guns Rich, seriously relax, they are safe [:)]

fucktoyprincess -> RE: Libyans protest against Islamic extremist militias. (9/22/2012 2:23:27 PM)

I believe the rough breakdown of party affiliation in the military is GOP 30%, Dems 30% and Independents 40%.

It's a bit disingenuous to suggest that only religious fanatics are in the military.

I personally have extended family members currently serving in the U.S. military in the Middle East. These family members are socially liberal people who bear no resemblance to the Religious Right, so I really don't appreciate your perspective. But thanks for sharing, anyway.

TheHeretic -> RE: Libyans protest against Islamic extremist militias. (9/22/2012 2:32:40 PM)

And what makes you automatically think the guns that safeguard the rights of all Americans are all in the hands of the military?

I'm a vet, with family currently serving. I wouldn't suggest for a moment that our forces are all of a single political view.
