lilmissdefiant -> i really need some advice!! URGENTLY!!! (9/17/2012 9:56:15 AM)

A situation has come up with My Owner, I can't get in contact with him because of it. its nearly 3 AM so i can't call any of my friends or family. I'm trying really hard not to have a panic attack.

any suggestions on how to defuse this panic attack situation, I can't keep still. I am trying breathing techniques and they are sort of helping but anything else would be very helpful right about now...

Concentrate on something else. Your owner would want you to.

For example: try to comprehend some quantum physics text, or something else requiring as much attention and concentration.

Self relaxation techniques work, even if you do them off the cuff.

Find a quiet spot, preferably without light (or low light), close your eyes, and focus on your breathing. Let your breath become slower and deeper, concentrate on regulating it (much like you are probably already doing).

Think of a place or situation that is comforting to you. As you continue with your breathing try to notice the little details (if you picture an ocean island, maybe there's a cool breeze, warm sand itching under your feet, a distant call of birds from the shore...)

I would venture to guess that visualizing can be difficult to you, which is why allowing yourself to concentrate on these details, building them in your mind, will help.

As the picture forms in your head, still breathing deeply, put yourself in the place you're imagining. Let the quiet calm relax you. If you are sitting, let your shoulders relax, then your arms, and so on down to your feet. Letting your body loosen up will also alleviate tension and redouble your focusing efforts.

Let me know if this helps. It's something you may wish to practice in times when you are already calm, to make it easier for yourself when you aren't.

Thank you, I will try that now, i don't know what else to do, I know my Owner wouldn't want me to freak out but this is a situation neither of us could've seen coming, He's not in hospital (well I hope not) buts its still not a good situation.

And.......remind yourself........he is a growup and survived long before you knew him. Whatever is happening, does happen.......you will get through it.

Prepare for his triumphal return.  Wash the dishes, scrub the cupboards, iron the shirts, fold the panties, vacuum the floor, wax and dust, shine and scrub, alphabetize the movies, the books, the cds, the linen.  Arrange the closet.

Keep busy, you cant do anything about what you cant do anything about, and panic does not relive any stress for anyone.

Mow the grass, rake the yard, wash the house, clean the garage....cook some stuff, can some stuff, go on like the world will not end or if it does you will be packed and ready to go in every way, write those letters you were always gonna write, talk to friends and family about them, start that get in shape program, quit biting your fingernails, quit picking your nose, find the lost socks, sew all the buttons, press the flowers....rearrange the house.

Everything that everyone else said.

Also, I know this sounds silly, but sing. I'm rubbish at concentrating on my breathing, focusing on a happy place etc. But if you sing you automatically control and measure your breath and it gives you something to focus on.

Using FR:

Looks likes I came into this too late to help last night.

The older I get the less I encounter these sorts of emotional tailspins. (Except when I went through menopause.)

But when I do, I journal. It really does help me, b/c it seems I have to get the emotion out some how, and writing let it flow out of me.

So perhaps a suggestion if there's a next time.

If none of those other things work, there's always valium.

this ^^^^^^

it's what i do too. i write poetry, write in my diary, or i read out loud. reading out loud may seem a silly thing to do, but even if you think you are bad at it it doesn't matter. it makes you breath correctly, just like the singing which is another thing i do.

i hope all is well for you both.

For anxiety, I've done all of the above plus cardio. Oh, Ben & Jerry's helps too :)

I've never tried that. Then again I don't ever really suffer to have a need. (except when my kids were younger and the most godawful hellions known to motherkind...)

Whenever I get stressed I either go buckwild and clean and shit........or totally zone out and take a nap.

WinsomeDefiance -> RE: i really need some advice!! URGENTLY!!! (9/17/2012 1:24:08 PM)

[:D] I don't take valium. My friend does though and it keeps her pretty calm. Pretty much to the point of her growing roots where she's planted herself.

When I'm stressed, I clean too. And on very rare situations, posts distess messages in the I Admit it, I forum.

littlewonder -> RE: i really need some advice!! URGENTLY!!! (9/17/2012 1:29:33 PM)

For me it depends on what happened on what I would do. If he was in jail, I wouldn't be sitting around feeling anxious. I'd be sitting around fuming with my lid about to pop off.

If he is in a hospital, I'd be on my way to whatever hospital it is. If it's just something like a car broke down or something happened at his work or something like that, I'd just keep in contact with him in whatever way I could, do stuff for his return so he won't have to deal with it when he gets back and probably toss and turn until he got home.

WinsomeDefiance -> RE: i really need some advice!! URGENTLY!!! (9/17/2012 1:40:58 PM)

The other day, I was having a hard time with anxiety and emotional distress so I went to my friends house. She gave me a neck and shoulder massage and cuddled with me. Her Master even stayed up all night and let me snuggle in the bed with her.

Sometimes you just have to find whatever support works. A good steady support from friends or family can be very helpful.

I hope your Master is ok, and everything that has you so anxious gets resolved satisfactorily.

Yep (less the menopause).

I've been thinking a lot lately about the need to journal more, but I've been too lazy to do it.

Thanks for the nudge!
