Not too long ago someone posted a thread about a home treatment hair removal laser. Only thing I remember about the post was that the website to buy it from was sketchy.

Well, a few weeks ago I got a Groupon coupon in my email for 6 treatments at a clinic. I've set up my appointment for the middle of September for my first one. The technician is offering me the same deep discount if I want to purchase for other areas of the body.

I realize that nowhere offers better than an 80% reduction in hair growth nor do they claim it to be absolutely permanent BUT...

My questions are: Has anyone gone to get this done at a clinic? How many treatments have you had and how long has it been since you went and how do you feel about your results?

My coupon made what could be a very expensive thing become exteremely affordable. (I paid $100.00 for basically $600.00 worth of treatments...and she offered me more)

I'm wondering if there are lasers you could buy at home that are as effective as the ones they have at the clinics too. Anyone buy an at home laser that you use? Does it work? Should I just keep on plucking? LOL

I don't know how effective laser treatment is (I've wondered myself). What I do know is that the lasers they sell for home use are absolute crap.
And that you can buy a professional laser starting at $1500 to about $5000 (I'll dig up links if anybody is interested), which for a lot of people doing treatment on multiple body parts ends up being cheaper than paying a professional to do it for you.

YES I would love some links!

And anyone that lives close to me that is interested, maybe we can split cost or something because I probably will buy one in the near future if I can find one worth a damn that actually works. Once I visit the clinic and learn how to do it I'd rather do it myself than spend more money having someone else do it for me if it's all the same in the end you know? Especially since it's not considered a permanent thing too.

Are you that hairy that waxing won't do the job? I am really happy with my epilady, Nads, and my Wahl trimmer, but I am not terribly hirsute to begin with. I know the bunny has an Emjoi. Those hard to reach areas... are hard to reach! Which adds to the entertainment when you have a helper.

(being shaved = huge turn on!) (yes, I am in TMI mode suck it up!)

I'll dig them up once I've had some sleep. It's been about 22 hours since I last slept so my brain isn't in the mood for research right now.

And LH, I wax and use an epilady, but it's just such an annoyance. Lasers, though they may not be permanent, supposedly last a whole lot longer than a waxing. Wouldn't it be nice to not have to worry about hair for a couple of months?

Much of my leg hair is gone, thanks to root destruction! One of the joys of being single is not having to be so fussy. And if I wasn't single, I'd have a helper for those things!

If I had serious hair, I can see going for laser treatment. I do want to have more of the spider veins on my chin lasered... they came back, dangit. (the stuff surgeons don't tell you!)

Yes, my chin is VERY bad. I could grow a full goatee if I left it alone.
I plucked, waxed, chemicallly epilled (is that a word?) for years. I am so self conscious about it that I have OCD over it. I would have a pair of tweezers in my hand with my face in the mirror all day long.
I stopped plucking (per instructions from the laser tech) before my surgery and am now just shaving the area...I find if I don't run the razor across my chin a minimum of 3x a day I get a 2x3" area of horrible scratchy stubble. When I was still plucking with tweezers I had maybe 2-3 hairs pop out at a time, but it was an all day project to keep up and I honestly didn't realize how bad it was until I stopped plucking.

Even if the reduction is only a percentage and it isn't completely permanent, it will still be better than what I get now so it's worth it to me. If I can get a decent home/proffessional laser then I can zap my face once a month and never have to worry about it again....I hope

Thing is, I really don't mind shaving my legs or my underarms....women are SUPPOSED to do that right? It's all the shit that grows where it isn't supposed to that I'm OCD about (my chin isn't the only area, it's just the worst)

Hair removals often end up in the sweat glad next to the hair also being destroyed. We humans require those sweat glands.

without looking... Rule.. since when are you a woman that has experience with female hair removal? Or (just a guess here) are you suggesting that circumcision on males is the cause of female hirsuteness?

because it wouldn't surprise me in the least, if you are....

My gf spent well over $10,000 and had many, many treatments but she was lasered everywhere - armpits, legs, pubes. She was very happy with her investment and I was impressed with the 100% results.

She did find it a bit inconvenient to not shave or go out in the sun before treatment, but felt it was worth it.

I would expect $600 worth of treatments would take care of your chin, yes?

i've seen these home systems advertised for using at home. however, they are usually £400+ now if i had the cash, and i knew it really worked i'd be tempted to buy one. i'm sick of waxing the areas i can't use the epilator on.

i hope it works for you Lucifyre

Actually what I was told was that on top of the underlying cause of my issues, I've gone and made it worse by plucking for so many years because when you pull a hair, a little bit of blood feeds the follicle which akes the hair grow in thicker.

Dunno if it's true...don't really give a royal shit either way. Just want to get rid of the little fuckers because they drive me wonky.

That's an old wives tale about hair growing in thicker.

For the most part I should hope so. I really feel extremely lucky to have found the coupon I did. Because I am spending only $100.00 and if it doesn't work for a hundred bucks ...well, that's what? 6 months worth of razors anyway? <shrug>

But see, if it DOES work....then I'm all over getting my own laser for a do it myself deal...AND I'm wiliong to share...Ladies that live in Florida...lets have a hair removal party! Once a month till we're all happy eh?

Has anyone tried that "no-no" device for hair removal?

I had the old fashioned electrolysis (facial/chin only) nearly thirty years ago. Luckily I got it for half price because someone I knew was going through training and needed the practice. I'd hate to think of what I'd be plucking if I hadn't!!! The chin ones are sooooo stubborn!

I was actually looking at it. But the fact that you can't find out the price until you hit the order now button and then you don't find out until you read way down the page that you'll be charged 3x for the damn thing...seems a little sketchy to me.

That was one of the things mentioned in the previous thread I couldn't find.

Lucifyre

p.s. yes the chin hairs are stubborn little buggers

I wouldn't bother with one if those at home
laser things. I'm doubtful you could buy one
that is strong enough and I don't know
if it's wise to be using lasers on oneself.

I would only have it done by a doctor,
a dermatologist or a plastic surgeon.
I think removal of facial hair would be
worth a sizable investment and you can
go the payment plan route for procedures.
I would be prepared to pay in the
neighborhood of a thousand dollars.

It's your face you're talking about.
You want a qualified person who knows
what they are doing. Lasers have the
risk of scarring. There is also a chance
the hair will grow back and require further
treatments.

What about that heat hair removal thing they show in the commercials?

Long ago I saw something on laser hair removal. They waxed/plucked the hairs then put some coal tar or other black substance on the skin to fill the recently plucked hair hole and wipe away the excess. The laser is supposed to hit only those black spots at kill the hair root.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laser_hair_removal

It says much the same thing that dark target hairs work best.

I can see it now. Lucifyre wheels her laser cart into a medical scene. The wicked doctor/nurse will see you now you hairy little subby. LOL
ZZZZzzzzzap! Yeowwwwww. Ooops, didn't quite get it. ZZZZzzzzzzap!
