Romney seems so bent on preventing another Ron Paul that he's turning on all grassroots Republican activists. Your move, tea party.

I read an interesting article which put forth the theory that Romney's not doing this for 2012, but for 2016. He's worried that, should he win the Presidency in 2012, he might not be able to control the party in 2016.

I don't think he can control it in '16 either.
That's not a knock on him, it's a knock on what the system has devolved into over the last couple of decades.
Anyone who thinks they are 'controlling' a political party is having delusions of Topping from the bottom.

Theorize as much as you want, the rule change was dropped.

My post had nothing to do with the RNC rule change or even with any particular party.

Even the ones who don't support Romney?

Why not? You can't believe how many of my liberal friends have argued with me strongly that I must vote for Obama in order to keep Romney out of office. I myself see them as slaves to the system and that thought is one of the biggest chains binding them. Good lord! Above all else, don't vote for someone you actually want! Vote for one of the Demublicans!

SternSkipper -> RE: RNC stripping delegates against its own rules . . . (8/29/2012 9:17:36 AM)

BTW - It may fluctuate a bit until after about a week after the DNC National Convention. And barring Romney offering to blow everybody and fork over a C-Note if you vote for him, Obama's pay-off will go down and Romney's up. So if you like Obama and want to maximize your take, get your money down now.

The real story is their barring Ron Paul from speaking to the Party. It's the most gutless move I've ever seen in convention politics. He won more than enough delegates to to justify his addressing the Convention.
But I guess demonstrating there were differences of opinion over big issues in public would pretty much kill the impression that Romney is embraced by his own party, wouldn't it?
I don't care fuck-all about their playing with a seating rule. Not when they can disappear the dissident voice without any rules at all.

And they call liberals Commies.

You have interesting friends. I covered my entire concern over the few republicans voting for Romney ... UP HERE, IN HIS SO-CALLED HOME STATE, where HE WILL LOSE BADLY, Because WE KNOW WHAT HE DID TO MASSACHUSETTS.
My solution? I called the printer and priced Condolence Cards.

Its the topic at hand and your thread continued the speculation on the reasons. Content and context...apparently not your friends.

No, my comment was in answer to a quote by Steven. You weren't involved in the conversation until you shoved yourself in. Go back and read. It flowed nicely until you dragged it off topic. Context here seems to be your worst enemy.[:D]
As for it being off topic, actually, it's not. The topic is the RNC (the DNC does the same thing) and its power to make up the rules as it goes along even if that includes disenfranchisement of its own people.
As for speculation on the reasons. Please show where I was speculating on the REASONS for the RNC's behavior. I wasn't.
That wasnt even a good attempt at a strawman argument. If I didn't know better, I'd almost think I was talking to someone from Idaho but he's been moderated and we all know that noone would do such a thing as to post by proxy.[8|]

So, do they stay home? Meaning those who support Paul.

They're planning on attending, but from what I heard the RNC is refusing to seat them.

My personal view is that part of the reason why our government is failing us is because of the two party system. I know it's a long shot, but I'm hoping that Ron Paul can help change that.

He can't control them now.

Agreed. With three parties you'd have to WIN the election, not just not lose it.

I'm pretty sure that's what Steve was saying. (he could confirm or deny that himself)
Romney will have more skills in 4 years than he has now, hell most folks gain skills as time passes. My point was that any politician who thinks they are in control of the party and not the other way around is delusional.

I think it would help end "my way or the highway" political tactics. People would be forced to wheel and deal and compromise and someting might actually get done.

Musicmystery -> RE: RNC stripping delegates against its own rules . . . (8/29/2012 2:04:51 PM)

Amen.

hot4bondage -> RE: RNC stripping delegates against its own rules . . . (8/30/2012 9:03:16 AM)

I read that it passed with a voice vote, even though some claimed that the "No" votes were louder. Republican activist Jim Bopp called it "the biggest power grab in the history of the Republican party." Sarah Palin spoke out against it, too. Former Bush PR guy, Ari Fleisher, sided with Romney. Hmm.

Please keep in mind, Stern, that Communism, National Socialism, Fascism (which is something else), and Capitalism are exactly the same thing: centralized power controlled by a small elite - in other words, Right Wing. This notion that Communism is 'lefty' is one of the great, carefully cultivated misnomers of recent history.
