Do you hate Kerry also? I have heard he has a lot of money, but I don't see people slamming him because of it.

We don't hear much about Kerry these days because it's been eight years since he was a presidential candidate. At the time, if memory serves, there was no shortage of discussion about his wealth--or, more precisely, his wife's--and much ado about his "elitist" taste for windsurfing.

I don't hate him because of his money.

I hate him because of the ostentatious.

The Kennedy's, Kerry, Papa Bush (much as I disliked his politics) even McCain (even though he can't remember how many houses he owns) are examples of rich people who have at least some knowledge of how the average American lives. Romney is just a creepy guy who looks at other rich guys and other politicians with 'doe eyes' and looks down his nose at us common folk. He thinks he's better and smarter than every body else just because he's rich. But he didn't "build it on his own". He didn't start with nothing and become a self-made man in any sense of the word. He simply took the silver spoon out of mouth, the one his daddy had given him and traded it for a platinum spoon.

Would you hate him as much if he had the same money but placed a D next to his name? Do you hate Kerry also? I have heard he has a lot of money, but I don't see people slamming him because of it.

Well, no, but then Kerry isn't the nominee of a party of sociopaths.

You could have stopped right there, Erie.  That's really what it all comes down to, right?  No need for the petty rationalizations.

I don't know Rich, what you characterize as "petty rationalizations" just might be the basis of many a decision not to vote for this man.
He just doesn't "connect" with the "common" man and we can all acknowledge that flintier reasons have been used to decide whether or not to cast a vote in the past.

okay its not an elevator exactly, its a car lift that stacks the vehicles so you get more use in the same fooprint.. and while I wouldnt buy one, there are other things people have in their houses in CA that are things I wouldnt have either.. Its his money, imo, let him spend it how he wants... it gives construction workers and material suppliers work in a state that has suffered massive construction job loss due to the recession.. But people would begrudge them work when they need it just cuz people have a hate-on for the guy???

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3aJjCI0JSE&feature=channel&list=UL

And he can only get his assessment lowered if it is actually overvalued as compared to other similar properties.. even if he does get it lowered, he will still pays $96,000 in property tax and once its finished being renovated/built the tax bill will be considerably more based on the new construction value.. The counties/cities review their assessments, especially due to the housing situation and likely would have lowered it regardless..

That is very true. Of course it could go the other way. Right now I am leaning toward voting for Obama. Reading all the hate coming from the left over bull shit like this could push me the other way.

Now that is one strange bit of criteria you have for choosing who to vote for?
I will go to bed every night hoping and praying that nothing I say winds up being the tipping point

The tendency to pick lifestyle nits is indeed dispiriting. It stems, I think, from being daunted by complex and thorny issues and dates back at least to the Van Buren-Harrison contest in 1840.

It bears noting, imho, that this bad habit is bipartisan. The right wing has not been shy about condemning Obama's golf or vacations, and we recently had a thread devoted to a single item in the First Lady's wardrobe.

Actually, it's not. The plan is to build an underground garage that is the size of the current house and use the elevator to move the cars up to ground level.

Actually, it's not. The plan is to build an underground garage that is the size of the current house and use the elevator to move the cars up to ground level.

Him building a big house is due to family gatherings and 5 kids, 18 grandkids and he is spending time there, many weekends and they had an easter egg hunt there.. even the previous owner said it was really only a 2 bedroom rather small house... the basement is supposed to be 3,600sq ft from what i read which is much more than the size of a 4 car garage so what you claim doesnt make sense.. and this article says it will be "a split-level four-car garage" (so sounds like 2 cars stacked over 2 cars in the same footprint of the present 2 car garage) and the reason for it is due to having a large family and the present garage being cramped with little street parking available.. So I am sure the neighbors prefer the garage with the lift rather than losing what little street parking there is.. so what some people see as him being out of touch and being ostentatious, is him trying to be a good neighbor by not taking up street parking and have a home big enough for his large family..

.. not that haters care about that..

"But those who have been inside say it needs work. The house’s last owner, Marc Van Buskirk, a salesman who represented military contractors, described it in his memoir as “rather small, two bedrooms really, and a quasi-den/bedroom.”
The Romneys have said that the current configuration cannot accommodate their family of 5 children and 18 grandchildren. The new house, by contrast, will be 11,000 square feet with a split-level four-car garage equipped with an elevator to ferry cars up and down. (There is currently a cramped two-car garage, and little street parking available.) "

Osidegirl, I don't remember you getting all upset when Al Gore improved his mansion in TN and bought a sea side mansion in CA ?  Lets talk about the economy under this presidents guidance. That's what this election will come down to. The jealous liberals need to dwell on something else. Successful people should be celebrated, not scorned.

I think that depends on how someone succeeds and what s/he does as a result.
