Yikes! Louisiana is not only pretty dumb, but a little behind the times as well.

It is against the law for a woman to drive a vehicle unless her husband is in front of the car waving a flag.
Although I’m sure this one is just an old law that got forgotten about and is never enforced, it does make for an interesting visual.

From Alaska:

Pushing a live moose out of a moving airplane is against the law.

Somehow, I just know that Sarah Palin has something to do with this.

From my home state of New York:

Jumping off the Empire State Building is against the law. Obviously.

Believe it or not, there is a persistent myth that if you jump of the Empire State Building, high altitude winds will push you back up to where you were.

From Tennessee:

Eating roadkill is against the law in Tennessee.

That's right! Screw over the poor people again! Probably their one and only source of protein, ya know.

From Utah:

Women are legally prohibited from swearing or using profane language in Logan, Utah.

Well, that will take a lot of the fun out of sex. "Oh yes! Insert your penis into me and move it back and forth rapidly! Oh yes, oh yes!"

From Wyoming:

It is against the law to photograph a rabbit throughout the month of June.

Huh?

From Arizona:

A technicality in the way the law is written allows for a man to beat his wife but not more than once a month.

"I'm sorry honey but we can't have Master/slave day this weekend... we had one last weekend, remember?"

From California:

A man may beat his wife with a leather strap or belt but it must be no more than 2 inches as long as his wife gives consent before the beating takes place. A man can use a wider strap if the wife is okay with that.

Are they sure about this one? It sounds like a variation of the old "Rule of Thumb" myth.

I've been to Guildford CT. I believe that they outlawed colored Christmas lights. Even the local tavern there looks like the epitome of restrained good taste.

From Flori-DUH's laws:

quote:

Sex with porcupines (freaking ouch!) is illegal in the state of Florida. Weirder than the law? Anyone who actually wants to have sex with a porcupine.
Citizens must pay the same parking fee they would pay for a vehicle if they tie an elephant to a parking meter.
It is against the law to imitate animals in Miami, Florida.
Chickens are protected species in Key West, Florida and are therefore protected under the law.
Oral sex is illegal in the state of Florida.
The only legal sexual position in Florida is the missionary position.

We're pretty focused on animals it seems.

Can I have sex with my porcupine in Miami if I put money in the meter for the elephant and we are in the missionary position with the chickens watching on Skype from Key West?

Damn, I'm the little lawbreaker! What with oral sex illegal & missionary the only legal position - and hell sometimes I'm howling like an alley cat in heat.

Another reason why I'll never visit California. I'm such a good girl!
the other 2 reasons are earthquakes and mudslides

The thing about the cactus law in Arizona... the Saguaro cactus was the reason for this law. It only grows in the Sonoran Desert and tends to be highly desired for landscaping, people would go out an dig these up to sell on the blackmarket. Some of the laws are pretty damned absurd but a few are out of context. Like Oregon's law regarding marijuana, yes, you can smoke it but having it outside of your home, selling it, etc is still illegal. Though I have no idea how that has changed since their medical marijuana laws... hasn't been a concern for a couple of decades. I do know that personal possession used to be a misdemeanor with a fine though.

These laws are on the books but if anyone gives you a ticket for most of them all you have to do is challenge them in court and the law will be overturned.

No one has challenged the laws because none of them have been enforced.

Old laws can be hilarious.
Jackson, Mississippi still has an ordnance on the books requiring operators of "horseless carriages" to have a man walk 10 feet in front with a red flag in daylight and a red lantern at night so as to warn off the horse drawn wagons.

You are one of my favorite posters DuskyPearls and I always like your links.

I read the Illinois ones only as I live here and only have time at the moment to read them, but they are truly hilarious. My favorite was that it is illegal for bees to fly through the streets of Kirkland, Il. Hm...

I had to come back to these. I just laughed so hard & long that the cats woke up. I had tears streaming and needed a tissue.

Know when something just strikes you as hysterical & you cannot get an image out of your mind?

Taking a lion to the movies is prohibited by law in Baltimore. I’m sorry, I just don’t get that one.

Dammit, I was just about to take my lion to see Madagascar. Sigh, he'll be so disappointed. Guess we'll have to go bowling again.

How dear of you to say so, Zube. I realize what interests me does not interest all, and there a few who probably wish I didn't post what I do half the time, but it is always my intent to put up that which is either funny, endearing or uplifting. There is far too much to the contrary in this world, and this is my small way of staying sane and to try to share it with others. Glad you enjoy them.

■I’m not sure how this is possible but in the state of Indiana, the value of Pi is 4 instead of 3.1415.

epic.

■This is just asking for trouble. Should two trains meet on a track in Kansas, one is not legally entitled to proceed until the other has passed. This law applies to both trains which begs the question, how do they proceed?

Even more epic.

■This one kind of made sense at first glance as a woman standing on the side of a highway in a bikini could be distracting to some drivers and the distraction could result in accidents. That sense is thrown out the window when you read the law as it’s written. “No female shall appear in a bathing suit on any highway within this state unless she is escorted by at least two officers or unless she be armed with a club.” Right. It’s the club thing that throws you off right? Check out the amendment later made to the law. “The provisions of this statute shall not apply to any female weighing less than 60 pounds nor exceeding 200 pounds; nor shall it apply to female horses.” WHAT??

■It is against the law to possess a realistic looking or feeling dildo in Dallas, Texas.

Facepalm.
