Universal Medicare may not be so universal, according to the Urban Institute, some 7 million will not be eligable.

http://news.yahoo.com/health-care-law-mandate-tax-many-people-affect-185719349--abc-news-politics.html

According to the ACA too -- this is not news.

It does bring us much closer, however.

How is a nation that is sixteen trillion in debt going to take on exponentially more debt and sustain itself, much less keep all its promises.

It cannot. The cruel truth is that the population will become dependant and then the roof will necessarily come crashing down, exactly like Greece.

How is an industry (healthcare) going to cover costs which are rising at ~7%/yr or more?

mnottertail -> RE: HELLO UNIVERSAL MEDICARE! (6/28/2012 1:50:31 PM)

Where you getting them figures?  Outta Rushes ass? Your math on Iraq was fucked up, your math on the oil spill fucked up, in fact, your math is atrocious on anything I've seen you do.

Maybe the House should stop voting to increase spending to buy the military stuff it doesn't even want.

mnottertail -> RE: HELLO UNIVERSAL MEDICARE! (6/28/2012 1:56:49 PM)

But then how are they going to run on a campaign of they are the ones to get us out of debt if it doesnt grow to historical proportions under their leadership?

Cuz you know they are going to campaign on the democrats are miring us in debt thing.

Musicmystery -> RE: HELLO UNIVERSAL MEDICARE! (6/28/2012 2:05:37 PM)

Wait....I thought we were running a surplus, that the National Debt clock had been taken down....when did this happen???

mnottertail -> RE: HELLO UNIVERSAL MEDICARE! (6/28/2012 2:18:47 PM)

Who you gonna believe?  Your lying fuckin eyes, or the party of fiscal responsibility?

Why, it's as plain as the nose on your face that the liberal media is traducing these guys with facts every day!!!!

itsSIRtou -> RE: HELLO UNIVERSAL MEDICARE! (6/28/2012 2:25:12 PM)

Well, if romney does con his way into the white house, & repeals AHCA…. enjoy whatever u think is a victory..... cuz u aren't going to for long.
because that so-called "victory" is going to come out of ur pocket ....one way or the other.

And if its stuck down watch the "nothing" that will happen afterward...
there will be nothing done to fix the problem , not really because the GOP believe that the industry should fix its self… even though the last 20 years have shown it loves its bloated self just fine.
there will be nothing for millions of people again..... nothing but getting kicked off for Pre-existing conditions, or made to pay insane costs to stay if at alll
....and nothing but bankruptcy for thousands a month because health care bills will surpass credit cards as a reason for it.
not to mention nothing will happen to the totally out of control compensation packages to upper management that makes the bitch about tax cost ignorant.

But of course all the religious care about is abortion,.....
sad,.... Those conservatives dont care as much about what happens to those kids & their health afterwards, half as much as how much money stays in their own pockets or church coffers.

its that selfishness thats part of why this country is no longer looked up to but instead looked down upon in disgust. and its religions arent looked at any better.

I'm going to greatly enjoy watching everyone who is dancing in the streets today finding out that the waiting list for them to be treated for their problems keeping them from getting treated...then we'll see how wonderful this health care is. Or when the government tells you that your kid HAS TO be vaccinated with some new vaccine and he/she winds up keeling over because it was untested and unsafe. Or when they say, Sorry, we aren't going to treat that problem, you're too old to justify it. Or when the premiums go up higher, and you either pay it or pay an increased percentage in taxes (higher than the 1% they claim today.) I just can't believe how many people believe all this b.s. but maybe you just like your ears tickled.

I've lived without insurance for about 8 years now, and I've paid cash for whatever medical I needed. ($6k once for a nice MRSA staph infection...the kind you probably get sitting in a Doctor's office with a bunch of sick people) It's encouraged me to stay healthier and live healthier. Now I grow an increasing percentage of what I eat, sans the GMOs, pesticides and other garbage in commercially grown food. No colds or flus in 12 years.

Dear clueless poster,

The ACA is not socialized medicine. It is a set of reforms and new rules for the insurance industry. The government will not be setting treatment guidelines or any such thing. You've been getting too much disinformation from FNC and hate radio.

So, now we're going to be all TAXED for our mandatory healthcare benefit, and that means...

MEDICARE FOR EVERYONE!

Pretty much.

servantforuse -> RE: HELLO UNIVERSAL MEDICARE! (6/28/2012 8:45:35 PM)

Justice Roberts did the republicans a big favor today. I think he did it on purpose..

Musicmystery -> RE: HELLO UNIVERSAL MEDICARE! (6/28/2012 9:01:59 PM)

You'd think they'd be a lot less mad about it.

servantforuse -> RE: HELLO UNIVERSAL MEDICARE! (6/28/2012 9:04:24 PM)

This ruling was the worst thing possible for Obama. He can't blame the republicans for this one. He is done.

It's a small step in the right direction. Pre-existing conditions, and lifetime maximum benefits aren't such a big hassle anymore, are they?

And now that we have an alternative funding stream for medicare, and the burden is now 100% on the taxpayer, then there's little reason for employers to continue offering plans. This could be the beginning of a radical shift in the way we do business in America.

or it could just be a small step in the right direction.

Either way, OBAMACARE PASSES SUPREME COURT TEST AND MILLIONS BENEFIT.

Not a bad headline going into the election cycle, is it?

no one here, well maybe 2 people here even have a clue what that means LOL

mnottertail -> RE: HELLO UNIVERSAL MEDICARE! (6/29/2012 6:21:48 AM)

You would not be one of them.

I waited 5 months to see my foot and ankle surgeon.. well worth the wait.

Depending on where you live, you may have wait time, you may not.

Good for you! I mean that.

And its good that you had 6K to pay.... and some dont. Who doesnt have insurance? Those who believe they will never get sick... and those who cant afford it.

It only takes one illness to wipe out everything you own.

What I think is the true face of the GOP, how now they going after their little darling Chief Justice Roberts...

More on this from Colbert: http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/416047/june-28-2012/john-roberts-as-obamacare-swing-vote

"J-Rob, how could you?"

Like many Republicans, Stephen Colbert was devastated at the news that Chief Justice John Roberts had turned his back on conservatives and voted to uphold the dreaded Obamacare. What was Colbert to make of such a drastic shift?

"Where's the man who said unlimited corporate money was speech? Where's the man who voted against equal pay for women? I don't even know who you are anymore."

The host then put an even finer point on the treachery: "This is the worst betrayal since Benedict Arnold teamed up with Judas to stab Caesar right in the croutons."

After taking in the disappointment, Colbert was left with only one thing to do: replace his Tiger Beat poster of Justice Roberts with one of Justice Scalia.

Check out the clip above, and then take a look at the follow-up segment below where Colbert warns of the terrifying precedent set by this ruling: "If Obama can force you to get health insurance just by calling it a tax, then there's nothing to stop him from making you gay marry an illegal immigrant wearing a condom in a hydroponic pot farm powered by solar energy."

HELLO MANDATORY INSURANCE (for all Americans who aren't under the poverty level)(for those of you under the poverty level, its free courtesy of your neighbor's tax money)

Sanity -> RE: HELLO UNIVERSAL MEDICARE! (6/29/2012 3:03:10 PM)

Its not mandatory insurance and its not a penalty. It's a composite tax, crafted from the memories of other taxes.
