Perhaps the name confused you. The first book in the series is Interview with the Vampire, which came out in 1976 and was made into a film with Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise in 1994.

I very much enjoyed "Interview," and less so everything else written by Anne Rice. Of course, I was around 13 when I first read it...I'm curious to see how I'd feel now that my mature standards are so much higher. I didn't care for her latest, "The Wolf Gift," which I did finish but without much pleasure.




OH!!!! Yes I liked Interview with a Vampire as well!

I think Interview still stands up, it's definitely her best book.
One reason the quality of Rice's work went downhill was after she became such a big success she refused to let her publisher edit
her. Even good writers need the pencil of a
good editor.

I was wondering about her new Wolf books.
Was hopeful that she might have got some
of her groove back.

The truth that can be found in fiction isn't
usually in the settings or the plot but in the
characters and themes. There's truth in
Harry Potter but the truth isn't about an
actual school for wizards.

People taking a bdsm novel to seriously seems
more like a online thing but I don't doubt people show up at munches looking for
Christian Gray or a intergalactic slave girl.

I would be very scared if someone showed up looking for Christian Grey or thinking that a piece of fiction was anything like reality.

Yeah, but they will because for most it's the first and only glimpse of BDSM D/s that doesn't look like psycho ax murderers. It's something they can relate to. It's no different than women that base their goals for marriage on fairy tales/Hollywood chick flicks/bodice ripper novels.

In the 90s when the Beauty books became more mainstream, there was a huge influx of the same thing.

I think it's a good thing to get new blood, but in the end the majority will leave disillusioned because they looked at BDSM D/s through their fantasies and were either disappointed or taken advantage of.

I've never really sought out BDMS-y books, but I feel that were I to invest my time
and money on something, I certainly would have some expectations of enjoying it.
Isn't that the motivating factor for buying something in the first place? [:D]

Some of you have mentioned the Twilight series, and while I have no interest in
reading them, I did become a HUGE fan of Florence and the Machine because of it.
This was an unexpected pleasure with little to no investment. Win win!

Yes new people are always good, but yes many will leave when they learn that reality is never like the fantasy they read.

My first reading of anything BDSM related was I think closer to porn :o) But I was a big fan of Pat(rick) Califia and Macho Sluts was one of my favorite collection of stories.

1-I expect nothing out of erotic literature. Nothing.
2-The main reason a "real" BDSM book hasn't been written about a true 24/7 TPE is because it would be flogging boring.
It would say things like, Got up, made master breakfast, went to wok, that cunt Carla took my parking spot again.And dang, I forgot my wheat germ."

Sorry but imo all the Anne Rice books are godawful. I've never found any porn that's good though. It all seems trite, no plot, boring and just very bad writing.

I think many people do expect way way too much out of bdsm lit.

I don't. I set my expectations really low, and am seldom disappointed (or surprised for that matter).

LOL. Someone was talking about nosy people watching me and I told them they had better bring a book, we are pretty boring most of the time. But I love my nice boring life with my master. Those freaking vanilla's have way too much drama in their lives.

Mine wouldn't even be that thrilling. I run my business from home, so I don't even get the excitement of "that cunt Carla".

Home again, after a long day in the market and malls, a picnic in the park, and a stroll through the overgrown streets littered with old architecture shaded by towering elms. He placed the bags stuffed with purchases down by the front door to sort through later; ahead of him she skipped, her face flushed from the excitement of the day, her smile shining.

"Thank you, Daddy." Her soft words were filled with an echo of the day's adventures. She spun around and ran to him, throwing her arms around him unexpectedly so that he let out a soft grunt before folding his arms around her. They stood that way, silent, intertwined, until his face turned down to meet hers uplifted. He saw the joy in her eyes and knew that it was a good day, indeed.

One hand slid up her back to her hair, the long fingers weaving into her locks, and he placed a kiss upon her forehead. Her smile was infectious, and he murmured in reply, "I am glad you enjoyed our little day, love. Go relax on the couch, I've a few things to prepare in the kitchen."

She nodded and giggled, one eye straying to the bags, from which a few fresh vegetables peeked. He had asked her what she wanted for supper while they were at the market, and as a reward for being a good girl he was going to make her a favourite dish. Hugging him tightly and kissing him with a flourish, she scampered off ahead down the hall.

Shaking his head and chuckling, he watched her go, then turned to the bags and selected several to take to the kitchen. As he walked down the hall after her, he whispered to himself, "That girl is a bundle of energy some days!" The comment was not a complaint, quite the opposite, for the thought of her enthusiastic talk and wide smile set a peaceful, content look upon his face. He passed by her as she lay on the couch, watching cartoons, and crossed over to the kitchen, pausing in his ministrations to peek in on her. Soon a heady aroma wafted into the living room, and he heard her let out a happy sigh.

Domestic, yes; the stuff of dark bedroom erotica, no. BDSM literature? I'd say so, and while mundane, it's these little pleasures in life we should appreciate, no?
