I hate United airlines. They keep talking about how seamless the merger with Continental will be.......but I've been on hold for over two hours now because they changed equipment and didn't put the two people traveling together next to each other....even though there are seats next to each other available.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: It's official... (6/22/2012 5:22:45 PM)

We are prisoners of the airlines. I live in a Delta hub, so I get that circle of hell.

mummyman321 -> RE: It's official... (6/22/2012 5:24:41 PM)

Yep....Delta is no better than AA. My last trip back from Germany I sat 4 hours on the runway waiting to take off. Never fly through JFK!

OsideGirl -> RE: It's official... (6/22/2012 5:29:16 PM)

Right now with the merger, United is definitely the worst out of them.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: It's official... (6/22/2012 5:30:38 PM)

That's what I hear, even worse than USair.

OsideGirl -> RE: It's official... (6/22/2012 5:40:32 PM)

At the moment, yes.....and being worse than USAir is pretty amazing.

United is losing luggage, the website isn't working correctly, they're substituting aircraft but not taking care of the seat assignments. I had 5 guys miss an international connection in Tokyo because the agent in SFO couldn't check them in because the computer system was screwed up. Hold times are massive.

I just spent 2.5 hours on hold, just to reconfirm that the changes I made to their seats actually went through because their website wouldn't update and the seats or the aircraft change had never updated in the airline reservation system.

Winterapple -> RE: It's official... (6/22/2012 6:44:45 PM)

How is it possible to be worse than USair?
Did they take the doors off all the planes
and replace all their people with ferrets?

OsideGirl -> RE: It's official... (6/22/2012 6:49:25 PM)

The merger with Continental Airlines is not going well. Right now, they're having far more issues than USAir.

To give a positive note - I like Southwest - two bags fly free. Service was great too!

Le sigh. You give me the itch to check up on my booked flight to Florida. I already had a very similar experience with them over said flight, which was booked back in February. [8|]

They do.

However, they don't fly to as many places and they are a one cabin airline and while they don't have a change penalty, they require that changes get priced at today's airfare which on cross continental flights usually ends up being more than a change penalty with another airline. Pretty much the only place my guys find them useful is local market travel. As a travel manager, they're a PITA to book because the lowest fares are on the website, which then has to be manually imported into the airline reservation system to make sure that the lost savings and spend reports are correct.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: It's official... (6/22/2012 9:26:30 PM)

Yes, SW IS BONKERS about the flight changes. I wanted to get on an earlier flight since I was at the airport ANYWAY, and there was room on the flight. I could have gotten home earlier if I'd paid for a full fare ticket! Whatever happened to standby ffs?

kitkat105 -> RE: It's official... (6/23/2012 3:19:12 AM)

Yes.. domestic travel within the US can be interesting. Out of 4 trips there and approximately 50 flights spread across all carriers, I found my last flight to LA on AA to be the best. My agent at check in was supremely nice & helpful and didn't even charge me because of my bag being a little over. I was super impressed.

I'm flying back there using Hawaiiian air. Should be interesting.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: It's official... (6/23/2012 8:22:41 AM)

Hawaiian air does that route? I've only used them interisland and they were super efficient.

None of the US legacy carriers do standby for free anymore unless you're a top tier frequent flyer. But still the $50 is still cheaper than paying the fare with Southwest.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: It's official... (6/23/2012 11:48:06 AM)

It's like they do everything possible to make travelling less desirable.

They do! I'm flying from Sydney to Honolulu to the Bay area. [:)] I was beyond pleased at avoiding LAX as my POE.

Try sitting in their seats...even worse. They (and Delta) have some of the oldest, tarnished, poorly maintained interiors.

Best: Alaska, Jet Blue, Virgin.

kalikshama -> RE: It's official... (6/24/2012 6:47:45 AM)

<--------- JetBlue fan.

Oh, ditto. I love JetBlue.
