Rumsfeld: Obama Call To Get Bin Laden No Big Deal, Credits Bush Administration For Raid’s Success

quote:

Earlier this month, former Defense Secretary Robert Gates, who served in both the Bush and Obama administrations, said President Obama’s decision to order the raid that killed Osama bin Laden “gutsy,” saying that “people don’t realize” what a tough call it was and not everyone would have made the same decision.

In an interview that aired last night, PBS’s Charlie Rose, noting what Gates had said, asked his predecessor Donald Rumsfeld if he agreed that it was a “gutsy” call. “I don’t,” a defiant Rumsfeld quickly shot back, adding that he would have done the same thing. “It seems to me that it is a 15-minute decision and the first 14 are for coffee,” he said. Rumsfeld then, just like President Bush had done, credited himself for the raid’s success:

quote:

We took the investment that the Obama administration benefited from. The capabilities they have were developed during their predecessors and each President –

ROSE: The predecessor meaning the Bush administration you served?

RUMSFELD: And, yes exactly.

The Obama-ordering-the-bin-Laden-raid-was-no-big-deal meme is standard fare for former Bush administration officials. Karl Rove said recently that it wasn’t an “epic achievement” despite the fact that he called it a “very tough decision” just one day after Obama announced the raid.

Rumsfeld says Obama’s decision was a no-brainer. But what would the former defense secretary have recommended? “I would have recommended what the President decided,” he told Rose last night.

But would he have? The New York Times reported in 2007 that “[a] secret military operation in early 2005 to capture senior members of Al Qaeda in Pakistan’s tribal areas was aborted at the last minute after top Bush administration officials decided it was too risky.”

Which top Bush official called off the raid?

Donald Rumsfeld.

Wasn't Bush the guy that said that Bin Laden was no one to be concerned with and had the CIA shut down the office tasked to find him?

Bush deserves all the credit for OBL still being alive and free for SEAL team 6 to kill at the President's behest. We know we had him cornered at Tora Bora and simply let him escape into Pakistan.

Bush was part good, part bad. Rumsfeld was all bad. He was responsible for the tactics that created a very quick military victory that had not subdued the populace, endorsed torture, and his crappy diplomacy was partly responsible for alienating our European allies. There was a reason that Bush was pressured to get rid of him.

That was 10 years ago, not even six months after 9/11 and Bush seems nonplussed about Bin Laden. Since he was the main reason for going after A/q and therefore into Afghanistan, it makes you wonder wtf Bush was thinking.

Mission accomplished, no not by a long way George.

Please subscribe to my channel. :) Benazir Bhutto said Omar Sheikh murdered Osama Bin Laden as though it were common knowledge. Well, maybe it is, but it sure isn't here. I trimmed this clip from this video:

The thing that the former members of the Bush Administration and republicans in general seem to forget is that the surgical strikes by cruise missiles and Spec Op teams were doing quite well at hitting and hurting Al Qaeda centers inside Afghanistan.

The problem with those tactics is that they worked effectively and limited casualties. Instead the Bush administration decided that we needed to invade not one but two countries when we did not have enough troops to effectively conduct sustained combat operations in both theaters.

The result was that combat tours were extended, time between combat tours was shortened and now we have epidemic suicide rates among vets and active duty soldiers.

Thank you George and your republican supporters. Great strategy to save money on helping vets, if they commit suicide no money has to be spent on them.

Oh yeah, I forgot that the Republican house wants to CUT spending to the Veterans Administration but increase overall spending to the defense department.

lets not forget all that cancer causing depleted uranium they were sucking in with a 4 million year half life otherwise code named "gulf war syndrome".

The red cross even today asks vets where they served in afghanastan and iraq and if they were in those ares they are NOT allowed to give blood!

Thats both parties.

Unless proven otherwise Osama Bin Laden died of natural causes many years ago. June 26, 2006 is the date of death that has been given by Berkan Yashar a former CIA agent [ “Even if the entire world believed, I could not possibly believe it,” Yashar said. “I personally know the Chechens who protected him, they are Sami, Mahmood, and Ayub, and they were with him until the very end.”]. Some think it happened years earlier. I do not know anybody who buys Obama story.
Show me the evidence and there is no dispute. We have been presented with absolutely nothing. The press tries to keep the story alive (by adding nothing to it) in order to boost Obama popularity.

I just checked Wikipedia. The half life of depleted uranium is between 4.4 billion years and 700 million years. With that kind of half life, it's essentially not radioactive at all. There is some evidence that it can lead to debilitating defects, but it beats me how, since it stays in the body for hardly any time if ingested (50% of it is gone from the body in 15 days). Maybe if it was inhaled...

While uranium is listed as a possible cause of Gulf War syndrome, it's not the only one.

Um. Add in Bremer, Bush, and very likely Cheney.

I was speaking in context of course, but you're absolutely right, along with all the major shareholders in Halliburton

Look, I have realone on ignore, which does not help when people quote his lunatic ramblings.

IF the person in question would ever check facts instead of conspiracy theory bullshit, it would be different.
