Something Kaliko said in another thread (teacher humiliating student) triggered an old memory from high school. Looking back, I realize this teacher just didn't like me.

Do you have any stories of teachers who had it in for you and fucked with you? Here's mine, I think its pretty fucking funny, and sad too.

Our entire gym class participated in a single elimination basketball tournament, where each person plays the winner of the previous match (picture tree branches).

I wasn't particularly tall or good at b-ball - I kinda sucked actually, and was a year younger than most of the class, but did have a wicked one-handed sky hook. The gym teacher paired me up first round with the tallest kid in the class (6'2, colleges were scouting him). When I saw that, I said fuck it, whatever, fine, just get it over with. There's two half courts, and two side courts, nobody is gonna care or notice some giant pouncing some kid.

But no, as I walk into the gym, the fucker (the gym teacher) is corralling everyone onto the bleachers, to watch this planned spectacle. I can still see myself saying "what the fuck is this" and refusing to play, and the gym teacher replying "play or fail".

I should have told the ass off, and asked him how this would fit into his retirement plans, and then marched myself off to the principal's office (normally, would be other way around). But I was a pussy and slave to not failing, and figured, what else can I do - so I played.

I got 2 points by bouncing it between his giant legs and making a layup. But he shut that down right away, as well as my skyhook.

Final score: 20-2

After the show, everyone started playing their matches while I messed around.

Disclaimer: this is just me sharing a childhood story in hopes others will find it interesting, and share their own stories. It's not me whining, complaining, or bitching about anything, or being surprised, or anything else one may read into it. Now it's time for me to go get a haircut.

A slight variation:

I got bored quickly in school. I would drift mentally from class and into my worlds of sketching and writing. One day, I was caught "napping" during class. The teacher kept asking me the same question, I looked at her and went right back to what I was doing.

At the end of class I walked up, placed the scrap paper I was using on her desk, and walked off without saying anything. It had the image of a rose curled around some phrase I tossed off about how death's inevitability rendered love impotent. The next day, half the school thought I was sleeping with her. A month later, she was brought up before the school board, even though the rumour had no truth and no proof. Six months later, she was suspended because they had no proof, and wanted to punish her anyhow. If I had known before the fact I would have testified in her defense. Truth, however, was not the issue. Propriety, was.

Moral: do not trust the bureaucracy.

An attempt at humiliating me, by my 7th grade English teacher.

Class was arranged alphabetically. My last name was near the end of the alphabet, which put me at the back of the class room. Teacher saw me chewing gum in class (not allowed) and called me to come to the front of class and stand in front of everyone, then handed me a poem to read, out loud, which I memorized on the spot:

"The gum chewing student and the cud chewing cow
Are both quite alike, yet they're different somehow
And what is this difference? I can see it all now.
It's the intelligent look on the face of the cow."

I read it, very comically, and popped another piece of gum in my mouth on my way back to my desk. Class laughed, I avoided humiliation.

In retrospect, that was a really crappy thing to do to a kid!

I was a bit opinionated, imagine that, even in grade school. I once disagreed with my 4th grade teacher Miss Monroe. She took exception to my comments and grabbed me by the arm….marched me to the head of the class…got out her slotted wooden paddle…had me lean over her desk and proceeded to paddle my butt in front of the girls until I said I was sorry and would never argue with her again.

Very humiliating…scarred me for life….lol.

I walked out of PE in the 7th grade, after asking to go to the bathroom and having the coach say no. My punishment was to write a 5000 word essay on "The effects of lettuce on Mongolia". It was the 70's, and I am convinced the coach was smokin weed.

Well, I got in to it, Writing has always been something I enjoyed. I used some facts about Mongolia and lettuce, also some jokes about how silly it was to have to write something about that subject.

It ended up being 6000 words or so, the coach loved it, and I won a writing fair after entering it.

I guess that wasn't humiliating, for me it just taught me to be willing to do the time if I was gonna do the crime.

3rd grade teacher could hit ya on the back row with one of those longass chalkboard erasers. Her nails were a couple of inches long and she would rap ya on top of the head if she was close enough and you said something stupid.

5th grade teacher loved me, but I pissed him off one day, and he made me go get the paddle from the office. Told me to paddle my self 3 licks, and if I didn't do it hard enough, he would do it. I really hit my self hard, and he stopped me before I finished-lol.

I deserved every bit of "humiliation" I ever got, from school and at home. I was allowed to get self esteem when I earned it for my self, not because I got a certificate for just doing what was expected of me.

We are raising a generation of pussies, IMHO.

I didn't participate in this but I still feel guilty about this and what happened to her:

We had a very large teacher who barely could fit in her seat and even many times got stuck in it. The kids hated her because she was mean and grouchy. One day the kids decided to glue tacks to her chair and glue her drawers shut. I did not participate and I never saw it as funny but the rest of the class did.

The very next day she had a nervous breakdown right in the hall and quit.

The one I did participate in though was just funny and he was actually a teacher we adored. I was in the drama club and we were basically allowed to roam free anytime giving the excuse we had to get the stage ready or we had play practice. Instead we'd climb atop the theatre rafters with some cigarettes, a bottle o booze and a box of lightbulbs. When our theatre teach who everyone called "Sir", would come in and walk across the stage we'd bombard him with lightbulbs. lol. He'd just laugh and tell us to get down and then ask us for a swig of booze lol. I had such kewl teachers in high school.

Oohhh...I forgot one. I had a really boring class. There was basically 6 of us in it. Teach would let us pretty much do anything in it. So me and my girlfriend would write stuff on the chalkboard so we were drawing this gruesome death scene and he asked us what we were doing...."Well we're trying to figure out what would be the best way to kill ourselves...hey, how about a gun? "Nah, too messy", "mmmm....maybe hanging?" "Nah, takes too long....oh! how about about we poison each other. We'll need to figure out the amount, make sure we have some good needles....." The teacher then stopped us, said we need help and sent us to the guidance counselor. hahaha. for some reason they called our parents and we were allowed out for the rest of the day.

Your drama teacher should have gotten his ass fired. Not "kewl".

I don't know about getting him fired. Teachers like that are the ones I learned the most from. I guess that was my good old days or something.

All I can tell you is that if I had found out my kids' drama teacher knew they were drinking and smoking in the theater, let alone asked under aged kids for a swig, I would have been pissed off for about a million different reasons. Any teacher with half a brain would know that wasn't acceptable, and not exactly what they are supposed to be "teaching". I also learned a lot from my drama and speech teachers, but I can't imagine they would have gone along with something like that. Must have been the good old days, or something.

I do remember in Junior High, we had a home ec teacher that a certain class of girls liked to pick on. They actually thought it was hilarious to make her cry, and she would fall for it every time. It was absolutely excruciating to watch, and I wish she had been more resilient and stood up to them. It was bad for the rest of the class, and not a very good lesson for those girls either. Since they were the type that was constantly drinking and smoking out in the parking lot, I don't imagine they learned much in school anyway. From what I hear about the one or two of them I have heard anything about, they grew up to be losers. It wasn't that hard to pick out the people who were never going to amount to anything.

I think I was in the first grade when we were doing this read out loud thing on a dick and jane book. We took turns reading and it was sooooooooooooo slow listening that I began to read ahead. I am not sure how far into it I was when it got to be my turn to read out loud and of course.. having gone ahead I didn't know where the person before me had stopped. I was stuttering and stumbling trying to flip the pages back to where my deskmate was indicating and the teacher made me stand up because I was not able to pay attention in class. I had to stand up until the next break. One thing I learned from that was to never outpace my classmates.

LMAO

I just turned 50. Any humiliation from school is already too deeply buried in my memory to be easily recovered for discussion.

At this point in life.........it just doesn't even matter.

lol everyone, thanks, i loved reading your stories!

i know the drama teach was wrong, but sometimes being more like an older brother than a parent or teacher gets through to kids better.

It was a different time then. Back then in a small podunk town, teachers partied with the kids, teachers dated teachers and would sneak out the janitor's room for a little r&r.

Back then everyone knew everyone, everyone hung out together, drinking among kids and teachers was common and just wasn't seen as a big deal. It's not like what it is today.

I mean we had a teacher we called Batman because he was at one of the keg parties, was drinking and stood up on a big boulder and jumped off, saying "I'm Batman" lol. Since then that's what everyone called him. lol

Like I said, different time, different place and not today's world at all. Not even close.

I was seven years old and in the 2nd grade. My mother taught me to read before kindergarten so by the time I was seven I was well past the class when it came to written material.

The teacher refused to believe I'd finished reading the Dick and Jane page so quickly (literally it was a Dick and Jane book, I was just starting the Narnia chronicles at home). Holding me by the arm she hauled me to the front of the class to display me as a liar. Then for the rest of the day I had to lay facedown on the floor.

Her name was Mrs Milbrandt and I really did not like her!

As an adult remembering this I find it curious that I never told my parents. I guess way back then it was simply a matter of knowing the teacher was always right by virtue of her being the teacher, so complaining would have fallen on deaf ears. No real idea if my parents would have done anything or not though!

WARNING: THIS IS LONG!

No teacher ever embarrassed me.

Some tried, but they couldn't do it; I was always smarter than them*** until I got to college. Even then the 2 professors that I had smarter than me were actual adults.

When I was very young I lived in a small town in Massachusetts. A math teacher*, the only Doctorate in the school system there, tried to embarrass my sister by asking her a question while she (my sister) was reading a novel under the desk.

"Well miss Insert_My_Surname_Here," she said, "Would you like to answer the equation on the board?"

Barely glancing up, my sister gave the correct answer.

That really torqued off the teacher. When she had my elder brother years later she would change the rules of whether or not you were allowed to take your floppy disk home with you at night or had to leave it in the classroom.**

She banned my brother from the computers at the high school so that he couldn't finish his project. My brother was not as smart as my sister, but he was resourceful: he went to his middle school teachers for access to computers. Being a bigwig in the school system the teacher got him kicked off of those. He eventually went to the elementary school and she got him kicked off of those.

That was when he complained to Dad. Dad asked for a conference with the principal. From what I heard in the halls (the middle school was attached to the high school) Dr. F. left that office in tears. From what I hear he never raised his voice.**** I've heard what he said and The Doctor would have been kinder

She didn't learn her lesson. I graduated middle school and guess who I drew as teacher for Geometry? If you didn't guess Dr. F. then go flog yourself with a wet noodle covered in concertina wire.

She hated me from the start, having had two members of my family thwart her. You could almost see her hands wringing in the traditional, "I've got you now my pretty!" way.

Her advanced geometry class conflicted with chorus and I like to sing. So I had to transfer out of her class into Algebra II. She couldn't really get her hands on me.

But I didn't transfer out of her class before answering a question on the board, that I had barely glanced up at from my novel under the table, correctly.

As I said, no teacher ever embarrassed me. Good teachers, and I've had some great ones, aren't interested in that. Only bad teachers are.

Someday I'll tell you all about my high school physics professor, 200 miles away and his lab assistant. Now that was an experience.

I can also tell you about how a horrible teacher can fail a bunch of geniuses and a good one can make a real difference.; but I'm tired after all this typing.

Goodnight and may you never let the assholes get you down.

*Let's Call her Doctor F.
**This was obviously a long time ago. Floppy disks cost MONEY in those days.
***I'm not trying to brag; I was.
****He never raised his voice. That was the worst thing… the fury of the Time Lord… and then we discovered why. Why this Doctor, who had fought with gods and demons, why he had run away from us and hidden. He was being kind…

that makes me shudder!

looking at your pic, also makes me think of adult possibilities :)

also, reminds me of another good one.

the teach in 2nd grade asked the class to suggest a standard punishment to be dealt to anyone who broke school rules. me already having an advanced legal mind ;), i suggested no desk for a day for the specific crime of writing on the desk.

well, the class loved that suggestion, but for every crime, not just writing on the desk.

cut to the next day, and some pathetic bully trying to pick on me, not realizing i didn't put up with bullies. by the time the teachers separated us, i was sitting on top of him holding his puny arms down while he flailed about furiously trying to punch me (one of my fav classic moments).

well, i won't say teach was picking on me, but she was all into democracy in action, and had the class "try" us both, and he won the popularity contest.

guess who had no desk for the next day? life ain't fair, but beating up bullies can be worth it.
