Of course, it get a lot scarier once the attacker starts chasing after you when you run, doesn't it?

Not nearly as scary as that "Oh, fuck - I should have just taken my Skittles and gone home" moment you have when you start slamming a guy's head on the pavement only to find out (too late) that he's packing a fistful of hot iron.

I've been following the coverage of this event by the liberal media (read: CNN) and it's interesting to watch how their stories have evolved as facts about the event have been made public. Instead of just reporting the news early on they were filling in the blanks with all their their poor black victim spin. Now that it's been made public that Martin was beating Zimmerman they have dropped that whole tack and have been -gasp- actually trying just to stick to the facts. I wonder if crow pie has a lot of cholesterol?

"Not nearly as scary as that "Oh, fuck - I should have just taken my Skittles and gone home" moment you have when you start slamming a guy's head on the pavement only to find out (too late) that he's packing a fistful of hot iron. "

That's a fine fairy tale, but the facts don't support it. And it's a Juries job to decide if Zimmerman's "injuries" were sufficient to justify his choice to use deadly force. And since the medical record doesn't support even "minor" injuries ( in the context of the law ), Zimmerman's going to have a hard time proving that he was actually attacked as he claims and REASONABLY in fear of Great Bodily Harm ( also in the specific legal context ) or Death.

What we KNOW:

1) Zimmerman armed himself and went hunting after Trayvon Martin.

2) Trayvon Martin is dead.

Everything else is, in our American adversarial legal system, for the Judge to decide ( issues of Law ) and the Jury ( issues of Fact ).

And Zimmerman's 'injuries' are consistent with Zimmerman SLIPPING AND FALLING AS HE HUNTED TRAYVON MARTIN, causing hit poor widdle head to hit the ground, and get his nice clean clothes all grass stained. 250 pounds don't hit the ground lightly.

And if he was chasing after Trayvon Martin, MARTIN would have a REASONABLE FEAR for his safety, and therefore under Florida's SYG law, BE JUSTIFIED IN PUNCHING ZIMMERMAN IN THE FACE.

So, we have a scenario that fits the facts better, with a whole lot less wild speculation. Since, again, no one has any MOTIVE for Martin to attack Zimmerman.

Unless you believe the Crazy Black Person just had enough of Whitey keeping him down or something and snapped.

You've obviously never lived in an urban environment. If you are alone and being approached with purpose, the first thing to do is E&E. (escape and evade). If you're cornered by someone who is armed and you aren't armed, you have no choice but to try whatever it takes to incapacitate the assailant and get out of the situation. If this includes killing someone with your hands, so be it. Zimmerman screwed up big time when he allowed a suspected perp to get within arms length. The concealed carry class I took plainly said NEVER let someone get that close. If you do, you have given up all your advantage.
