I don't think it's necessarily racist. I do think that the kind of discussion that America keeps having on every single issue is one where we completely remove ourselves from applying our talk to actual human beings and in regard to actual facts. We all profile people in our minds based all sorts of things including the environment. When I'm by myself in the subway at 2am I'm much more cautious of my surroundings. I'm also more on guard around someone rushing towards me in scruffy clothing than I am of someone in a suit standing and reading the paper. The point is that me being cautious doesn't mean I get shoot someone and kill them because I'm afraid. My personal fear is not the same thing as I was actually in danger.

I keep heard talk about who gets to wear what and who is or isn't a racist or peoples right to protect themselves. All of that is bullshit in regards to this case in my opinion. The relevant things in my opinion are a) we are supposed to have a judge to determine our guilt not a non-appointed citizen; b) people do indeed judge people based on environment and clothing; c) people shouldn't be able to kill us because of their perceptions of us.

Said another way:
-- Being a "scary race" does not carry death sentence.
-- Dressing like what some people consider "thug like" does not carry a sentence.
-- Being in the wrong neighborhood (what has been stated as the reason for being followed but later proven wrong) does not carry a death sentence.

So even if Travon actually did every single thing that he's been suspected of doing, none of it carries a death sentence and that's what he got. So unless someone is suggesting that one should be shot for looking scary then the whole hoodie discussion is irrelevant.

<fr>

I heard on the news this evening that preachers and worshippers in many churches across America wore hoodies today.

I have a question for Geraldo.

<begin sarcasm font> If a cute girl is wearing a hoodie and a mini skirt, do you shoot her first THEN rape her or do you rape her first before shooting her? <end sarcasm font>

Gerardo can't be racist, he's brown, and a progressive! Didn't you read the memo?

I think that all racist commentary should take place in bars, and should NEVER be considered valid unless the person making the comment has had at LEAST 7 beers, and had at minimum, 3 off color jokes told to them.

And they can't say in their defense "several of my closest friends are black people", or they're just fucking taken out of the que.

(I'm sticking to this).
