Just leaving that here.
new poll in germany:

The question "do you see the US still as an ideal"

only 9% think the US has still a guiding function.

The question "do you think the US are still the Land of unlimited opportunity" was answered by
26% with yes,
66% with no.

What do the germans think about the american people
71% think americans are likeable, congenial and friendly.
only 14% think them unappealing.

how many germans are interested who will be the next american president
52%, about every second.

who should be the next american president
82% would prefer obama
only 8 % would wish somebody else to be president.

( the missing percentage is undecided )

Well America has (for cause) taken some pretty good beatings over the last 15-20 years, but it is still a pretty good place to hang out and hit the rack.

The uglies are uglies, the rest are JUST fine.
Im crazy about quite a few of them
The crazies come in all colours shapes and ideologies.Same as any country.
I could say who I find to be the worst of what america has. But that would be unfair AND untrue about so many people.
Greed and selfishness seems to be a huge decision maker for me. That aint restricted to the US

Without a doubt, Master Ron. My objection was more along the lines of completely discounting something because it doesn't agree with your political ideology. Why shouldn't we care what Germans thinks? I realize they do not affect the outcome, but they will still be there for us to interact with after the elections.

Norway's my ideal from what Aswad has said starting here: http://www.collarchat.com/fb.asp?m=4040227 and also from what I read on wiki.

OK, reality check...

Do you know which countries feel they are the best country?

All of them.

We may no longer be the allpowerful, the swiftest, the sleekest, but by god, we still cut a wide swatch out of the world.  Everyone is interested in our elections (even the Chinese and the English).

No its not but greed, selfishness, corruption proliferates in the US like a plague,.. and like a plague,.. it spreads beyond its borders.. That is how the housing, mortgage debacle and the worst recession since the 30s spread outside the US,.. they sold others around the world their securitized paper shite and look how thats turned out..

slightly more, the US have 22,10%
The EU has 20,39%

for the US ignoring the EU should be as hard as for the EU ignoring the US.
seeing 1/5th of the global economy in danger to fall into the hands of religous extremists is kind of scary for us, we don´t ignore the US... we fear it being ruined and dragging us down behind. all this teaparty and creationist stuff is spooky, let alone the still ( or again ) free wheeling madness of the financial system.

It is. Despite the rhetoric about China, the EU is the second largest holder of U.S. debt (and the first is U.S. citizens themselves).

I think you might see those sorts of figures reflected in similar survey conducted in the UK. Broadly, 'Americans - nice people. Friendly. Their politics and the way society works? Terrible.' By comparison to the Western European average, it's a very, very right wing country. In some ways, almost shockingly so. I'm a leftie, but I know I join with a lot of quite conservative critics here in saying: for such a wealthy country, it's a bit of a disgrace that it doesn't look after the people at the bottom so much better.

I would be interesting to know what the poster makes out of the data? It is important to understand the polls can not be analyzed as a direct reflection of reality. They do reflect merely the mindset of the group being polled. Informative polling is an art. Asking vague questions and getting some answers is quite useless exercise. Do you like Americans, or do you like Obama is certainly one of these meaningless activities.

I'd imagine Peon has caught pretty much how most Australians feel about the USA. We like the people and the place, we shake our heads at the (lack of) health and welfare, we're ambivalent about US foreign policy but out Govt finds excuses to send our troops into most of your imperial adventures. All that said, it's a place most Aussies like to visit.

well, it´s just a survey, but i found it very interesting. being a quarter american ( my grandfather was an US soldier in germany ) i was always a bit more attracted to the us than others.

germany was always the country, at least when i was young, where the people were the biggest supporters of the US in europe. if it´s that bad in germany now, how bad is it in the rest of europe?

We should not care at all about this poll...without being able to compare previous polls. Were Germans ever enthralled with the US as an example.

Perhaps rather then the US worrying about what the Germans think maybe the Germans should be worried about what we think about helping them in the default crisis.

Well if Hello Mitty Romney the oxymoron, excuse me, oxymormon is the best the reps have, you have a crisis in reason.
Even Arnold has a better chance beating obamarama.
As many say the race is already run. To us it looks like a setup.
How many presidents ever in the history of the US were not re-elected?
I think reps will even vote for Obama just to verify america is always in support of its president.
