Looking at the Republican field Tim it sure seems like a valid voting choice

We can't even call it irony, but rather another side of the overall strategy to keep potentially Democratic voters away from the polls; Florida, the Republican-led voter fraud capitol of the country in the 2000 and 2004 elections, now comes up with a set of 'voter fraud' laws to achieve the same end, that of excluding the unwanted voters.

Of course, not a single person was prosecuted for sending thousands of letters to former inmates and others informing them they were ineligible to vote when they in fact were, along with numerous other illegal acts, but this teacher, who will likely not face any actual fines after this publicity, is yet having her actions reviewed by the elections office.

The video reveals how shark attacks are more likely in Florida than voter fraud.

We should be careful, preaching to other countries about their election practices while we are so engaged in suppressing participation

Howard- This law uses the threat of fraud to basically try to make it more difficult for black people and college students and young people and language minorities from voting.

Stephen- Why would they want to do that?

Howard- They tend to vote democratic and they voted overwhelmingly for President Obama.

Stephen- Fraud!

Seems cut and dried to me....lol

but on the serious side,if you are a major political party and your best hope for victory lies in LOW voter turnout.....than maybe you,as a party, have some issues you, again as a party, need to address

That was funny.. I enjoyed it very much..

I think its interesting that young people do tend to vote democrat but then some evolve into republican voters.. I never thought about that before.. but yesterday i was listening to a youtube video yesterday and that was discussed.. I also had a conversion as a young adult (as a Western Canadian that meant I voted NDP but converted to Conservative later, never ever would have voted Liberal!!!)..

".. there is a saying: "if you arent a Liberal by the time you are 22 then you dont have a heart, if you arent a Conservative by the time you are 28 then you dont have a brain" "

That's not my experience at the uni. I could not give any actual numbers, I'm not taking a poll of fellow students, but based on various questions and commentary in class, I can assure you that young Republicans are not underrepresented.

To the issue of change in voting sentiments to more putatively conservative as some people age, it's true that some grow tired of all the thought process involved in understanding political issues and find it easier to just fall back on what they imagine to be clever and witty aphorisms, which some followers of the conservative parties are eager to put forth as substantive political discourse.

Actually I went thru such a progression,I was saved by two things....one Bush and co.(well three things the religious right too) and the emerging political sense of identity of my only child.
I saw and heard my son's views and realized I was listening to an earlier version of myself...and wondered where I went wrong.
I decided I had become bitter....and so I returned,happily,to my roots and my true self....a liberal Democrat....lol

I'm thinking Republicans are giving these students an extra lesson on the importance of voting.

One I doubt their teacher will miss.

I did not go to uni in the US so I have no personal experience with that... As a young Albertan tho, my parents voted Conservative and there was that influence or pressure to also vote Conservative, so i can understand a certain number of young Americans voting republican cuz their parents did..

I do think that young people tend to have ideals that havent met reality, in that they did not have paychecks and see how much tax, ss, etc deductions they pay out, the state sales tax, fees here, extra govt charges there, etc etc.. until they add it all up and say, holy shit, I am paying half my income in tax! lol It wouldnt be so bad if all the money was used as it should be,.. but given govt waste, fraud, politicians being bought by big business, etc.. that too is part of the reality..

That said, I dont vote and have not since my 20s.. its up to other people to decide the govt they want since they are the ones that have to live here, I can vote with my feet and leave..

lol I am sure that kind of conversion happens also..

I just think its interesting how people evolve and change, about a lot of different things. When i was 18 i absolutely hated porn (I had my own personal reasons for hating it), I would have shot and pissed on any boyfriend if i found he had a porn stash.. my first boyfriend didnt have one tho.. i was with him for a long time.. but oddly enough, when i broke up with my ex I did a 180 on porn,.. and now I watch it all the time..

Me, I've come full circle after I went Centrist/Moderate in my Middle Ages. If anything, I'm more Progressive now. It is my considered judgment, after having examined the issues (those I am concerned about, at any rate; I don't have any opinion about the 2A) that conservative solutions are unworkable, and harm far more people than they help (like the Gov of PA cutting General Assistance while letting the natural gas producers poison the water table with fracturing chemicals without any penalties whatsoever.). Their policies rarely benefit those who are not in the top two quintiles of income/wealth (IMO), and their social policies are Medieval. Racism, Sexism, Classism, and "Homophobia" abound; I live in the subdivision that Gingrich used to live, and I am confronted with those attitudes on a regular basis (the term "N****rs" is used frequently, as is "fag(got)s", "welfare scum", and other terms of affection. Bless their hearts.) The blind faith, really the worship, of "free markets", is as pathological as the devotion to Stalinism was among Soviet Communist theoreticians in the 1930s.

My son once advised me,in response to me telling him to let such stuff go,that the folks spouting that nonsense were totally out of touch, that he had decided he would never sit quietly while somone used that word in his presence.
It offended him, when I considered his stance I applauded him on it ...and realized once again just how much this young man has taught me

Every once in a while, some young person gives me hope.

I was apathetic when uninformed.

Living in a state like Florida that can't manage basic things like having a bottle bill to help prevent bottles and cans from ending up in the landfills and oceans helped wake me up. I took a lot for granted in Massachusetts.

I started volunteering for political campaigns after seeing "An Inconvenient Truth."

It's actually more than One Person; One Vote if your efforts get others to vote.

My son is the best person I know, and my hear bursts with pride every time I think I had something to do with that

edited to add that I just might be a tad biased in my opinion
