Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama's approval rating is back to 50% for the first time in more than eight months, and he currently holds an edge against all the remaining Republican presidential candidates in hypothetical head-to-head match-ups, according to a new national survey.

And a CNN/ORC International Poll released Wednesday also indicates that the GOP's advantage on enthusiasm has been erased, and that the number of Americans who think things are going well in the country is on the rise. Six out of ten say things are going poorly in the country, but four out of ten say things are going well, up 15 points since November.

I needed to post something positive after being disgusted with republican arrogant asshole lawmakers all fucking week.

This will decline with rising (gas) prices, which are highly correlated with presidential approval ratings.

That will end this summer when gas hits $4.50 to $5.00 per gallon

My approval rating hasn't changed any still 0

With the quality of the republican candidates that isn't
saying much.

Too bad we couldn't get a live candidate for a change.
They are all brain dead.

"Inflation crap?" How so?

To use your words: At LEAST give a damn source FROM a reputable site, or be ignored AGAIN.

When you don't?  Why are the rules different for you and her?   Green and blue scratching one unverified and not paticularly causal data, is as useful as the superbowl winner predicting the stockmarket.

I said gas prices and presidential approval ratings are highly correlated. I never said anything was apodictically certain.

You have problems with reading comprehension.

So, it means nothing, why interject it into a serious factual discussion?  That is not rational.

Using this logic, why should anyone speculate about the future at all?

Not by using that logic, but indeed, what is to be gained in speculation devoid of facts and probable outcomes, based on knowledge and experiency and by using absurd comparisons?

I think cement could fly if we could make it lighter than air, and of course there is data on the net that tells us there is a new and lighter cement, so lets go all out after this.

And incedentally, the two non-sequiturs do not track on your chart in any degree of confidence, statistically speaking.

How is it an absurd comparison? Rising oil prices contributed to the ousting of Gerald Ford and Jimmy Cater, for example.

Also, there are no laws of history that can be extrapolated to the future. Predicting the future involves conjecture and speculation. You are completely ignorant with regards to the scientific method if you think there are "objective facts" derived from history that can be used to objectively predict future phenomenon.

I see some minor correlation but that's it. In 81, you have the inverse correlation you're claiming but 82-89, there really isnt much either way. 91-95, prices drop and the popularity of the prez is flat.
99 thru 2008, the popularity of the prez follows gas prices up and down which is the opposite of what you claim.

It looks to me like some news hack put up a graph and made a claim about it while counting on large numbers of ignorant people to believe him.

mnottertail -> RE: President Obama's approval rating is back to 50% (2/16/2012 2:10:02 PM)

I will also point out that its set  from its origin in fugahzi fashion, GHWB never had much over a 80% approval rating.

tazzygirl -> RE: President Obama's approval rating is back to 50% (2/16/2012 2:19:27 PM)

Ah, just what I like dealing with.. facts.

A little known fact. During the 70's, gas jumped to 2.50 a gallon. In todays money...

What cost $2.50 in 1975 would cost $10.02 in 2010.

We are a far cry from that rate. That's what happened to Ford.

The highest price of gas during the 80's, 3.49.

Reagan. What cost $3.59 in 1982 would cost $8.00 in 2010. Didnt seem to hurt his chances at all.

Carter lost because of the Iranian hostage crisis... how soon people forget.

Oh, wait, provfivetine wasnt old enough to remember. My bad.

Funny how the old cry was... the economy... and with signs that it is improving, its now... gas prices.
