Radical evangelicals have not been lopping heads off of people lately, nor have been feeding them into wood chippers, nor have they been blowing up school buses full of kids. Radical evangelicals also allow women to be seen in public without a male chaperon and to drive.

And don't forget, evangelicals will let you leave their religion without ordering your death.

Both will do whatever it takes to impose their views/beliefs on the rest of society.  The two groups just go about it in a different manner.  No real difference in the desire to impose their believes on the unbelieving, however.

The abortion clinic workers were evangelicals?

Or are you moving the goal posts now?

Also, are the evangelicals really applauding the people doing that? Because you see people dancing in the streets after prisoners heads get lopped off, embassies get blown up, or office buildings fall down.

The abortion clinic workers were evangelicals?

Or are you moving the goal posts now?

Also, are the evangelicals really applauding the people doing that? Because you see people dancing in the streets after prisoners heads get lopped off, embassies get blown up, or office buildings fall down.

The people who shot and/or killed them in bombing attacks were evangelicals.

Let's go with this one, Hill, and see what happens.

Get over into that wing of Christianity, and you'll quickly find churches which practice what can only be described as magick. Things like fortune telling, faith healing, and speaking in tongues are widespread. Now you can pull up the verse about not suffering a witch to live, or Salem, 400 years ago, but in the now, the Fruits of the Spirit are borderline normal in Christianity. Remember, "evangelical" is just the updated term for "holy roller." Radical Islamists will stone you for that.

Which brings us to the whole, "killing in the name of God," thing. That's much more popular and common on the Islamic end of the radicaloscope. Just as a master of Google-Fu could probably find us some Islamist splinter that has an equivalent to the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, so the haters of Christianity are doubtless armed with ready-made, and easily searched, references to crazy little Christian cults that put the "death to the wicked" verses in every Bible study, but what is considered a "normal" radical in each will reject the other, respectively.

I think this reflects the fundamental difference between the "normal" radical evangelicals, and the "normal" radical Islamist (and the two faiths, in general). The Christians have a personal relationship with God, freely undertaken. One must approach with love, and maybe get individual gifts to help spread the Good News. The Muslims must submit to God, and as doing so at swordpoint is just fine, so is being sent out with the sword.

Or some Jews, for that matter. A fundamentalist is a fundamentalist is a fundamentalist. As for Aylee's point about lopping off heads, radical Christian theocrats prefer public stonings. It's more Biblical, yanno. And if they thought they could get away with it, they would.

That depends on the type of radical evangelicals. If they are New Testament radical evangelicals, they likely have a foreskin and a six times lower frequency of inherited diseases than radical muslims. If they are Old Testament radical evangelicals, like the Amish for example, they might have as high a frequency of inherited diseases as the circumcision practising populations of the muslims and Jews have.

I began research into this subject matter after reading Robert Spencer’s book, “A Politically
Incorrect Guide To Islam” and trying to decide if he was the “Ann Coulter” of anti-Islamic rhetoric or not.
While the work is well written and well documented, it is equally harsh in its condemnation of the current
“mainstream” position that Islam, as a religion, is more peaceful and tolerant that its “radicalized”
elements. But, as I began to write, I ran into a problem with coming to grips with the question that titles
this paper.

As this paper will attempt to put forward a definition of a “radical Muslim”, you will come to see
what I have seen in my research that this is a bit more difficult that you might imagine. The problems with
coming to a definition have been two-fold: 1) The fact that Islam itself is much more diverse than you
might imagine; and 2) Those who would characterize Islam as being fundamentally radical are often times
willing to paint others with the same wide brush stroke.

So, I want to begin the paper with this quote from Ibn Warraq, a Christian convert, apostate, under
a death sentence by believers of his former faith, and author of the book, “Why I Am Not a Muslim”;
“There are moderate Muslims, but Islam itself is not moderate.”

So many times, radicalism can, and often is, equated with a more fundamental belief in a given
religion. From polygamist beliefs within Mormanism to abortion doctor killings in evangelical Christian
beliefs, sects like the Shi’ite, Wahhab and Berber within Islam are also tolerated but not embraced by the
overwhelming majority of mainstream believers. When a liberal or “progressive” in this country refers to
the “radical right”, they are referring to those who have evangelical beliefs in Christianity. Those same
fundamentalist Christians refer to the “radical left” as being believers in an exclusively secular existence,
with the requisite moral relativism. The characterization of people using the term “radical” has become a
handy tool to criticize those whose beliefs do not match our own. The difference in this discussion of
“What is a radical Muslim anyway?” will be the fact that an act of war has been declared on the very
“radicalism’ that brought about the attacks on 9-11.
