However, he is better than 80% of the others.

Yeah I'd already read about that. I find his position on abortion (an actual political issue) far more disturbing than some stuff from a newsletter in the 90's, and I'd still consider voting for him.

I'm not the sort of person to let an awkward scandal from 20 years ago decide whether someone would make a competent President, in fact I'm the type of person who absolutely loathes the fact that shit like this gets brought up in political discussions that should be about actual political policy, so it would take a bit more than that to dissuade me.

The thing I loathe most about election season is reflected in the central fallacy that drives progressive discussion the minute “Ron Paul” is mentioned. As soon as his candidacy is discussed, progressives will reflexively point to a slew of positions he holds that are anathema to liberalism and odious in their own right and then say: how can you support someone who holds this awful, destructive position? The premise here — the game that’s being played — is that if you can identify some heinous views that a certain candidate holds, then it means they are beyond the pale, that no Decent Person should even consider praising any part of their candidacy.

He is not being honest. Many have praised some of his views. Some of what he says I completely agree with... then he starts in on his "other" view points that are so out there and I realize... I simply cannot vote for the man.

Was there a precedented one before?

As far as the rhetoric from one side against the other, it will always be there. I have listened to Paul speak, I have read his words, I have considered his positions, and those I agree with do not outweigh those I disagree with.

Its great he wants to end wars... I completely agree with that.

What I cant agree with is the end to sexual harassment laws, abortion laws, affirmative action laws, discrimination laws... just to name a few, I cannot agree with him on. That has nothing to do with being a progressive or a conservative. It comes from a jaded place of recognizing what would happen in this country if these were taken away.

They obviously dont own any of the famous brands of bolt cutters and wire clippers that are made in mexico and sold here in america.

Status: offline 		The "anti-war, pro-due-process, pro-transparency, anti-Fed, anti-Wall-Street-bailout, anti-Drug-War advocate" is a Republican, not a Democrat. As shocking as that may be, it is a fact. I passionately disagree with Ron Paul on a number of other issues, but look where we're headed. To me, the choice is Ron Paul or an even larger and less accountable federal government. Just look at what Obama's done in the past few weeks: he codified indefinite detention of American citizens without due process, and kept the morning-after pill hidden behind the counter. Is that who you voted for?

In fact, despite draping his name across the top of all of them and John Hancocking the bottom of some of them, it’s pretty well-suggested that Lew Rockwell, Paul’s former right-hand, penned the missives. But the claim that he didn’t read them? Come on. The man spent 30 years publishing these tracts, raking in more than $1 million in the process -- and he's saying he had no clue about the contents? He certainly seemed pretty well briefed on the details in this 1995 video.

All of which reflects pretty poorly on Dr. Paul.

As Et tu, Mr. Destructo writes:

Paul supporters face three losing propositions:

• [Ron Paul] lacks the competency to control content published under his own name for over a decade, and is thus unfit to lead a country.

• He doesn't believe these things but considers them a useful political tool to motivate racist whites, which makes him fit to be a GOP candidate, but too obvious about it to win.

• He's actually a racist, which makes him unfit to be a human being.

and yeah he is responsible for what HIS newsletter says, unless its an op ed piece or a "letter"
thats just my opinion
He is not fit to lead the country
He is smart and has some good ideas, but his batty bits are far more dangerous than smart or good for the country, any country.

Agreed. I firmly believe that he will continue getting lots of press because he does know how to produce sound bites that a certain type of citizen buys into. But ultimately, he is unelectable. And again, that is the biggest problem with most of the repub. candidates.
