I understand what you mean needles about the time period not being pure, but for me, the draw of SH is the characters, both SH and Watson. The stories are all very character driven. Sure, they talk a little about the city and what might be going on, but the characters are the center of the story. Not all literature is like that. That is why it doesn't bother me so much to change the time period as long as the characters remain true. Shakespeare plays are the same way, they are driven by characters, the human interaction, and the language, all of which are timeless. That is why Shakespeare is so frequently and successfully done in different time settings and places. The second season of Sherlock will have Hound of the Baskervilles! I can't wait!
