You know things are get`n bad when millionaires are dissing the other`s wealth, fighting over who is more greedy. It`s like a preverted form of class warfare..... "Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney doesn't want to be cast as the only rich person in the race for the Republican presidential nomination." In the wake of his attempt to make a $10,000 bet with Rick Perry during Saturday's Republican presidential debate - a move that put a spotlight on Romney's $190 million-plus net worth and prompted critics to cast him as out of touch - the former Massachusetts governor told CBS News on Wednesday that his chief rival for the nomination is a "very wealthy man." "Newt Gingrich has wealth from having worked in government," Romney told CBS News political correspondent Jan Crawford in an interview in New York. "He's a wealthy man, a very wealthy man. If you have a half a million dollar purchase from Tiffany's, you're not a middle class American." Ouch! Gingrich has said he served as a historian for the mortgage giant, to which Romney remarked: “That would make him the highest-paid historian in history.” Romney added, “One of the things that I think people recognize in Washington is that people go there to serve the people and then they stay there to serve themselves.” Ouch!!! Romney's comment both spotlighted Gingrich's wealth - his campaign earlier this year estimated his net worth at at least $6.7 million - and drew attention to how Gingrich earned the money. The former House speaker made millions as an adviser and influence broker in Washington after leaving Congress, including at least $1.6 million from government-backed mortgage giant Freddie Mac. (Romney has called on Gingrich to return that money.) The former Massachusetts governor also made reference to Gingrich and his wife's onetime $250,000-plus line of credit at Tiffany & Co. Ooch! Romney was in New York for fundraisers Wednesday, prompting the Democratic National Committee to hire an airplane to fly over the Hudson river with a banner reading, "Bet you 10k Romney's Out of Touch." That was fuck`n funny... "More from the interview will be released on the "CBS Evening News" and CBSNews.com later today. In a seperate interview with the New York Times Wednesday, Romney took a different shot at Gingrich, saying "Zany is not what we need in a president." Owe!fuck`n that hurt! "Zany is great in a campaign. It's great on talk radio. It's great in print, it makes for fun reading," he said. "But in terms of a president, we need a leader, and a leader needs to be someone who can bring Americans together." Gingrich responded by sticking to his (questionable) claim that he is running a positive campaign and telling reporters, "I'll let him decide what zany is." "They should run their campaign the way they want to; I'm going to run my campaign the way I want to," he said. http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-57343168-503544/mitt-romney-gingrich-a-very-wealthy-man/ And speaking of "surge"............... "Shifting Tactics, Romney Attacks Surging Gingrich" Mr. Romney is seeking to paint Mr. Gingrich as “an unreliable conservative” on issues like climate change. And he is seizing on a remark Mr. Gingrich made this week, condemning Mr. Romney for profiting from layoffs and corporate restructuring he oversaw in his years running Bain Capital, that many conservative commentators said sounded like a Democratic antibusiness refrain. Mr. Romney said voters should take a closer look at Mr. Gingrich’s history of policy ideas. “Zany is not what we need in a president,” Mr. Romney said. “Zany is great in a campaign. It’s great on talk radio. It’s great in print, it makes for fun reading, but in terms of a president, we need a leader, and a leader needs to be someone who can bring Americans together.” Supporters, advisers and donors to Mr. Romney acknowledge a deep sense of concern. Mr. Romney finds himself in the vexing position of being perceived in many polls as the strongest Republican candidate to challenge President Obama by being able to attract moderates and independents, but facing an increasingly difficult battle for the Republican nomination because of resistance to his candidacy among conservatives. Mr. Romney said he would “keep on battling” if he fell short in the first contests in Iowa, where he has stepped up his efforts in recent weeks, and New Hampshire, which had always seemed to be a secure launching pad for him but now seems to be in play. His aides are vigorously organizing in Florida, where absentee voting begins right after the New Year, and in states far down the line, to build a backup plan when the nominating battle becomes a delegate fight. When asked what he would do if he failed to slow Mr. Gingrich or other Republican rivals in the early balloting, Mr. Romney said, “Make sure my message is as clear as it can possibly be and wait for other individuals who might be ahead of me to suffer the agonizing reappraisal and rude awakening.” http://www.nytimes.com/2011/12/15/us/politics/changing-tack-romney-calls-gingrich-zany.html That means Mitt plans to stay in till the end and that primary will be very long and entertaining. Been an interesting week. We had Mitt look like an absolute dick with his 10 thousand dollar bet, leading Mittens to diss newt for being rich,LOL!!!...then to the loser`s bluff, challanging newt to give back the tax dollars he soaked us for from Fannie-May,in turn leading to newty`s comments about Mitt`s predator-capitalistismm,........that pretty much back-up,explain and vindicate most of the OWS`s positions. Newty could ironically become the OWS`s posterchild.......for more that one reason! What newt said. "Gingrich responded at a morning event in Londonderry, saying he would consider returning his Freddie Mac earnings “if Governor Romney would like to give back all the money he’s earned bankrupting companies and laying off employees over his years” — a reference to Romney’s time as head of the private equity firm Bain Capital" Breaking News! NEWTY JUST JOINED THE OWS!!!!!!!
