Well, apparently, people do get it in my city. The tents are still up on the green in front of the cathedral; the (normally right wing) local newspaper is publicising their living needs and people are bringing along donations of money, food, blankets, etc, etc, by the droves. And the Bishop of Bristol, along with much of the Church of England, has come out strongly in favour of them. Personally, I see the movement here not as ugly, but as a protest against ugliness.

I`m ok with the clueless remaining that way.....[:D]

If the right thinks the OWS is over,I say let them think so.

yes 24 people out of 300,000 (out of 300,000 in the city...2,300,000 in the metro area) gave a meaningless piece of paper to someone at a bank....

Indeed the masses are joining up......

Revolution!!

Distasteful as some would think, my understanding that all this have and have not aggravation, (which is what the 99% argument is), worldwide can only be solved by the world moving towards a more socialistic system of governance and business.

I mean why has someone just got to be better, wealthier etc, isn't that a bit primitive, what exactly is wrong with all people just getting on and enjoying their lives with what they have and can do without this idiotic striving to be better than someone else ?

And no to the rabid, that does not mean communism, for we now know after so many experiments have been ventured that some aspects of socialism work and are of a benefit so cannot be discounted, but surely we should not be locked into what we have that is failing because we fear what we think about what we really don't know about unless we have experienced.

Surely there is a way forward that can encompass the best of socialism with the least damaging but inspiring capitalism for now until at least the sf inspired replicator is created, but maybe that is not too far off as we already have three dimensional printers and we theorise about Higgs boson particles, the ''God''particle, of which I believe has just been positively identified at the Cern Hadron Colider.

You know I often wonder what the world would be like if Nikola Tesla had succeeded in his humanitarian dream of providing free energy for the world via his cosmic ray motor and other ideas, as we already know his idea of the transmission of electricity through the air is already being commercially developed by Wi Tricity corp. But commercial it is as it ever is and the reason perhaps why we are still ripping fossil fuels out of the planet, ( wonder if one day the crust will collapse), but as we know what starts out as being commercial quite often ends up as free for all. Then perhaps we can concentrate on bettering ourselves in terms of knowledge, not wealth.

In the Star Trek movie "First Contact", Picard is showing a woman from the past around the ship and she asks him how much costs.  Picard's answer is that humans don't concern themselves with money in his time, they all work for the betterment for the human race.

Some might see that as a pipe dream, but I say it is an eventual possibility, even though the movie is science fiction.  In the 1940s and 1950s Buck Rodgers was going to the moon.

As do I, but I fear commercialism although enabling our lives to be bettered.( if we can afford it that is), also hinders it, as it is known practice for industry to buy up new technologies and with competing or even threatening technologies suppress them, one of the downsides of capitalism I am afraid. So it could be said our evolution is held in check by the desire for a minority to personally profit, the 1% again and it's effects on the 99%.

Did you know that Port Truck Drivers don't have bathrooms, so that have to pee in bottles and shit in plastic bags?

Are you part of the 26%? (OWS).

Or the 64%, TEA Partiers...

quote:

Americans’ fear of big government - partly fueled by a sharp spike among Democrats since President Barack Obama took office - almost reached a record high this year and is far greater than people’s concerns about big business and big labor, a new Gallup poll Monday shows.

An overwhelming 64 percent of people surveyed said big government was the biggest threat to the country, compared to just 26 percent who said big business is their gravest concern and 8 percent who picked big labor.

IF you knew anything about the area, you would know just how fucking funny that was. [:D]

But, as usual, you are speaking from a place of ignorance about something you havent got a clue about.

luckydawg -> RE: How the hell is this supposed to help the 99%? (12/13/2011 5:43:41 AM)

yes, a self appointed group of 24 people claiming to speak for 99% of people is indeed funny as hell.

I have largely refrained from criticizing OWS, but I fail to see how blocking ports is supposed to help the American middle class.  On the contrary, it seems like a really stupid, counterproductive thing to do.  What is the point?

Their point is simple: disrupt production and hamper the division of labor.

Only Marxists and their bastardized step-children, the Progressives, could think that sabotaging voluntary exchange raises the standards of living for the 99%.

The drivers want a place to take a shit. Why don't you want the truck drivers to have a bathroom?

Yep. The barista at Dunkin' Donuts put cream and sugar in my coffee today when I requested it black; didn't notice until I got back home. Everyone is going to pay today...
