FullCircle -> RE: Europe is crumbling (11/26/2011 3:50:09 AM)

According to the IMF (Impossible Mission Force) Germany's 2010 figure for sovereign debt is 86.6% of GDP raising to 91% in 2014 compared to 72.7% rising to 87.8% in 2014 for the UK. The other major economy of the EU (France) had projections of 80.3% and 89.7%.

So what are you bleating on about exactly regarding the UK's financial problems? You speak as if the UK is the only country in Europe with debt. If the UK had been in the Euro Zone it wouldn't have had any mechanism for controlling inflation or stimulating growth. Would have just been dragged along with centralised decision making elsewhere. You go to a doctor with athletes foot but because everyone else there has Gangrene you end up with you foot being amputated (that's Europe).

I'm also getting a bit tired of the 'oh if we leave we'll have no say' argument. Just wait for the next ratification of EU treaties and see what say the UK will have in it (none).

If we go it alone what is the worst that can happen...we end up like Iran (at least then we'll get to make abstract speeches at the UN and threaten Europe with WMD). Nobody ever stood out by sticking with the crowd I tells ya.

And not too long ago didn't President Pantload lend the E.U. $500 or $600 B of our money?

Care to elaborate with a link or something ?

I wonder if he found the Chimp taking out a huge loan from the bank of England before teh Kenyan was elected equally offensive as the IMF bail out of Greece?

Lucylastic -> RE: Europe is crumbling (11/26/2011 5:57:01 AM)

I bet he didnt even hear about that!

Moonhead -> RE: Europe is crumbling (11/26/2011 5:59:35 AM)

Probably not, no.

Again, England was smart for not surrendering it's currency.

Why they worry then ;)

All currencies influence each other. It was like that before the euro..and it will be after.

Moonhead -> RE: Europe is crumbling (11/26/2011 6:06:29 AM)

They worry because all they exports go to Europe, and if the Euro goes down and takes the European economy with it, that means they no have exports no more.
It isn't like the yanks buy anything that's made in the UK since Oasis went out of fashion, is it?

FR-

Banks brace for breakup of euro...

RIOTS WARNED...

Politesub53 -> RE: Europe is crumbling (11/26/2011 4:32:58 PM)

"extreme scenarios including rioting"

Moonhead -> RE: Europe is crumbling (11/27/2011 4:30:25 AM)

American newspaper sport: about the only branch of the press that considers mere rioting "extreme" any more...

CoreFocus -> RE: Europe is crumbling (11/27/2011 4:33:14 AM)

Why would people riot..when so many don't even care?
For the Northern countries..a break up might even be saluted.

Those who have the problems..already riot.

ArizonaBossMan -> RE: Europe is crumbling (11/27/2011 4:34:42 AM)

UK should be glad they stayed on the pound stirling.... They are still too messed up in europe's affairs and surrendered some of its sovereignty. At least they didn't get on the euro.

Moonhead -> RE: Europe is crumbling (11/27/2011 4:59:23 AM)

Really? Last time I checked, we get to vote for MEPs, whereas we have no say at all in whichever fuckwit you people elect, despite the fact that said fuckwits have been dictating our foreign policy since the '60s. If you're talking about loss of sovereignty, that's worth remembering.

tazzygirl -> RE: Europe is crumbling (11/27/2011 5:00:43 AM)

Moon, why would any country allow another country to "dictate" its "foreign policy"?

Moonhead -> RE: Europe is crumbling (11/27/2011 5:06:42 AM)

Trident is the current excuse.
You know, the "independent nuclear deterrent" that was up for review and which Blair was terrified that the chimp was going to pull the plug on if he didn't help monkeyboy invade Iraq? The thing that's only running because Haliburton are maintaining the drydock for the submarines?

Greece has seen several outbreaks of civil disorder as its government struggles with its huge debts. British officials think similar scenes cannot be ruled out in other nations if the euro collapses.

Its not the breakup of the EU that would cause rioting, its the economic conditions that bring it about. And they could be far worse than experienced already, so it wouldnt be limited to those "already rioting".

Its a doomsday scenario, and one that would impact the rest of the world, so don't start hoarding French wine quite yet.
